Webber’s disdain for our fan base

Recommended Posts

“We’re not going to get Carrow Road full for the women’s team with 40-60 year old drunk men. It’s about recognising that.”

How long are the owners going to let this fool disrespect the largely non-drunk fan base for?

Did this really need another thread?

is this all we’re going to see all summer?

Go back to sleep for another hour and sleep off last nights alcohol intake

I think raising his constant need to disrespect the fan base is worth a thread, yeah. Even if you’re happy to be mugged off by him you muppet.

The owners are a pair of pissheads too, come on, just give in to it and stop being a bore! *hic* :classic_cool:

The craziest part about what he said is that in the interview on the clubs channel he talks about how special our supporters are for having generations of families attending the same game:

Perhaps he's the drunk? :classic_blush:

Read this messageboard and understand that Norwich City is a very sick puppy indeed.

More fool those that continue to feed it as it is clearly on it's last legs.

The Daily Webber Thread. Is a new interview with Webber getting released daily or something or are we just bringing up a different sentence from the one on Friday?

It was hyperbole from Webber but I don't think the messaging behind the comment was wrong. The traditional football audience (middle aged men who like a pint or two before the game) aren't going to buy tickets to sustain the women's team playing at Carrow Road.

It costs around 50-60 grand to put on a game at CR, lets say 30-40 with a couple of strands shut. They're going to have to sell an awful lot of tickets at those prices to simply make Carrow Road games viable as more than an exhibition type event.

Unless it's changed dramatically in the last couple of years next to no WSL teams are profitable and the bills are picked up by the overall operation. It's obvious why the SD of a club in Norwich's financial position would be against the integration of the women's team.

Seems to me that people expected this interview to be something like Frost vs Nixon or Emily Maitlis vs Prince Andrew.  or even Martin Bashir vs Princess Diana or Tony Blair vs the Iraq Inquiry.

Whereas in actually it was quite boring like a CEO of a company defending his record when the company sales are down but they are saying the company has moved forward due to new back office it systems and other stuff the customer do not really care about.

Quite.  Absolutely nothing new here - and there hasn’t been since Saturday.

Chelsea won the women's league in 2022 with an average home attendance of around 3,000 paying entrance fees of £16,500. All well and good for a club like Chelsea.

It wasn't even a comment about our fans. It was a reference to the stereotypical men's football fan.

In regards to our fans, he talked about how fantastic it was to see generations of one family attending the same match, a Grandad, Son, Grandson etc.

I need to be as drunk as possible in order to watch us currently, so I will fulfil his wish.

Emily Maitlis?

You may be right, the standard of politics is very poor, I have little interest in it.

Yet that cohort is essential for creating atmosphere at the stadium for the men's game.

He's right of course.

He’s right that the only people filling the ground are drunk 40-60yr olds?

Why didn't he suggest that the Women's team use beach volleyball kits instead of the usual baggy shorts and shirts... he'd have a few more drunk 40-60 year old men  attending then. Sorted.

Not as sad as someone who is so painfully desperate to be offended by a big mean Sporting Director who said a few things you can't seem to handle without starting threads online crying about it. That's sad.

Has his wife defended him? She may well have said  " Stu , you really are a ****, I've told you before, don't say ANYTHING without running it by me fiirst.... and you  wonder why i dont take you to Family  events.  Now get on with the ironing!"

We have No idea of the dynamic of their relationship.  Unless of course anyone does?

Of course not, but like it or not they are essential for maintaining an atmosphere at men's football. The women’s game is totally different and for now attracts a much smaller cohort of fans.

Edit - that's my reply to S_81

?!  I don’t actually like the guy particularly, and never have.  I think my comments over the years will back that up.  But I’m all for fairness. The endless spinning and rehashing of the same interview and comments from different angles is not particularly useful.
