Why no booking?

Recommended Posts

Just had a cold light of day look back at the wreckage and was amazed to find Ramsey was not booked. At the time I just assumed he had been, as must happen (under Fifa Law 12: Fouls and Misconduct) for celebrating his goal by ‘gesturing or acting in a provocative derisory or inflammatory way’.

Be ironic if his injury kept him out for the rest of the season which was why we sent him back in the first place.

Word is he's on the bench for Deano at the Etihad at teatime.

Why would an Aston Villa loan player get wound up about us despite having played for us and flashing his goal celebrations?

It can only be the Smith factor. Both wknakers then.

Did we choose to send him back, or did he make it clear he wouldn't play for us anymore after we sacked his precious sugar daddy so therefore had no choice 🤔

Because the ref's are not fit for purpose.

I think he is just immature and took the critercism of Smith personally and blamed the fans.

Yes, I think you're likely right. But maybe if he has any mature people around him, at Boro or Villa, they could've suggested he apologised. Maybe he has apologised, I don't know, the question is not about him. Maybe he was getting wound up by the support, I don't know. That's irrelevent, Law 12 applies to players, not fans. This thread was not intended as an attack on the boy or his mates - it was asking a simple question, why was there no yellow card? Again I believe MBL is right in general that refs are not fit for purpose - but this was a specific question about a specific referee's conduct. Being kind and understanding to the boy is not an arguement as the question is about the referee, not the player, so the official can skip any deflection. Also this is not bitterness, if he had been playing for us against Boro wouldn't have bothered me either way, I don't think there would have been a different outcome on Friday. I expected a score of 5-1 or something similar in the circumstances and do not believe it would have changed the outcome, nor would a yellow card. The score should not anyway be  a smokescreen for the match official. It's a simple question.  Why did he not apply a significant Fifa law in this game?

I seem to remember he got a bit of stick from our fans post the loan cancellation and turning up at Boro on social media. Lots of speculation that he was faking it as he wanted out with Smith gone etc etc, although Michael Bailey suggested it was our call I think.

So I'd imagine he's responding to that in part. Bit immature yes but as with most football fans we're happy to give it out then suddenly become delicate flowers if it is returned at all.

I agree with you.

He returned to Villa before Smith was sacked.  Obviously recognised City were useless and wanted a better club so not done.

Bailey on his podcast reckons Ramsey was sent back to Villa because the Norwich recruitment team (I.e. Webber) didn't really rate him, implying he was only loaned here because of Smith. Thus Ramsey, possibly rightly, sees that as a personal criticism of himself. But why therefore attack the fans, he should have just headed for Webber in the Directors box.

There was me thinking that the club clearly stated he went back to Villa for them to deal with his season ending knee injury. It's almost as if they don't tell us the truth sometimes......

Blimey. He looks quite a lot better than Marquinhos...

Smith was sacked on 27th December. Ramsey's loan was terminated on 3rd January.

That was wholeheartedly the view on Bailey's podcast as well! 🙂

Well if the decision to ditch Ramsey was influenced by the availability of Marquinhos then it really was a poor one.

Yes, and *if* it's true then it reflects quite poorly on the club. Because from the outside it looked like Villa and/or Ramsey had been quite sneaky, ending his loan on 'injury' grounds then immediately loaning him out to someone else. Whereas if it was a decision that NCFC made that puts a very different complexion on it.

(Basically, I regret calling him a weapon)

Ramsey was at times our best attacking player. Right from the first game when he came on as sub he was driving deep into the opponent's box and it was obvious he'd score goals like the one he got on Friday.

Perhaps the issue he had with our fans was the posts about him on social media, including this forum, from fans who didn't rate him. Smith's lovechild etc.

His celebrating in front of the fans was childlike but he's only 20.

Yep, he has the instinctive movement and awareness to be in the right place at the right time. Only Pukki seems to share that, and, despite my incredibly long list of criticisms, maybe Tzolis.
