I do think one side-effect some of us have as fans of a team with Farke as the previous manager at the helm, is that we've become more accustomed to pretty football as a baseline so we're more forgiving of managers that play "nicer", more technical football than we do of managers that mainly focus on off-the-ball and on defence - and consider that more "deserving" as a result. Swansea had more shots on target but they were mainly half-chances. They didn't deserve to win. If the score finishes 2-1 then the following should be said above all: France took their chances when they came. England couldn't even score all their penalties. I don’t criticize Southgate for the last 70 min of this game, it was excellent (penalty miss aside) and I don’t criticize Smith for the first 5 min of the Swansea game.
