My wife died last year , mate.  And im Garda vetted for youth coaching . You couldn't be more wrong, as usual. Tw@.

So you got anything to say to me? You seem to have devoted a large amount of time to getting my attention so here I am. Because the plan is after this thread I’m blocking you and everyone will know that you senselessly post weird bile at me with no response and claim I’m the sadact? I’ve acted with huge restraint with your incessant posting for literally years now.

Time for you to get a life mate. I called you out on your behaviour and you crapped in your pants. You should think on next time.

Victim of a guy from Ireland projecting his mental handicap at me. How dare I call him out on it and have him soil himself in front of everyone, eh?

It’s public record, idiot. Anybody can check your profile and see how often you post at me. It’s pathetic, you are pathetic.

I just wanted to string you along so now everyone can see how deranged your behaviour has been. To continue to post at someone again and again for years while on block with no response? Who does that? You have no answer to it, you are bang to rights you little sad c@£t 🤣

And you crapping yourself the minute I called you on it is the icing on the cake. Your wife would be ashamed of you.

No, that's not just formations.

Counter-pressing and winning the ball high up the pitch is a system combined with a formation. Having slightly different variances in style to combat the one-style-only approach that killed us at prem level is a bonus. For example, we play between the lines and dominate possession generally but on occasion Smith is happy for us to try and turn the opposition with a direct ball over the top.

Just because you don't like the answer doesn't mean it isn't one. And what more detail could you give me about Farke's style over what i've given you about Smiths?

Farke also very much implemented a high press, despite the assertions in your previous post. Buendia had the highest tackles per game in the team, for example.

Farke, in his second Championship season, employed a much more fluid system of attacking play, with the AMs often tucking in, interchanging, and looking for the ball while the two fullbacks pushed up very high providing threat on the overlap and width. From those wide positions we very rarely crossed the ball, instead preferring to look to produce higher quality chances by coming inside and looking for short quick passes in and around the area.

Our attacking play was largely focussed on the centre of the pitch and trying to exploit quick transitions with plenty of snappy one-touch passing and clever movement looking to move the opposition around the pitch and create overloads to be exploited by the AMs who were often grouped closer together to maximise their qualities. This also got the best out of Pukki, who was often slipped in by Buendia or Cantwell having drifted inside and passing between the lines to get him in.

This speaks to Farke's overall approach to possession, wherein he favoured high percentage passes and keeping the ball above all else. Very rarely did the team look for more aimless direct passes, which are invariably lower percentage, even more so with the personnel at his disposal.

As well as no stamina you lack honesty.

But you are fun to tickle to the point of  implosion.

I fail to see how my absence  from here for a few hours amounts to me crapping my pants. You say i should get a life, thats exactly what i was doing earlier when you thought  id ' ran away'. This board , and in particular , winding the likes of you up is a pleasant diversion when im having a good old mug of tea.

I will not be on here while driving, working , angling  , socialising( look that up too) etc so i may not be able to give you the attention  you crave, exactly when you crave it.

Sorry bout that.  😘

So you view constantly messaging someone for years, all of it total nonsense by the way, and getting zero response as a valuable use of your time? Weren’t you constantly messaging me as your wife died? Precious moments that could have been spent with her were wasted on me. Well done on that one.

You simply can’t claim I’m dishonest because your behaviour is all public record on here. Anybody can go and see how you’ve been behaving and for how long and I encourage them to.

You crapped your pants and you still are crapping your pants for everyone to see mate, it’s a beautiful thing to see someone as deranged as you get called out.

I ask again, now that you have my attention have you got anything to say to me or are you just a little b1tch? Come on, spit it out. Let’s have it.

He wasn't a big fan of direct play, yet funnily enough newly promoted sides to the Premier League who have survived have normally been fairly direct at the outset. Playing out from the back is lovely when you have superior technicians to the opposition and lovely to watch, not so much when the other team has superior technicians who can take opportunities when you make a mistake at the back.

Actually, last night, I thought the main reason we struggled to contain Reading was because they were being very direct and exploiting their height advantage and greater physicality to boot.

This is the point I've been driving at - I could accept that if it were clear that those were the foundations we're trying to build, but we're not. We've not got the quick players on the counter or the defensive solidity to try and make such a system stick.

The sides you refer to are generally packed with physically dominant players at the back and at DM, with some pace out wide and a decent finisher, with some physical attributes, at CF. We're currently relying on a 29 year old Hernandez, who wasn't good enough two years ago, to inject some pace into our forward line and our MF is largely the same as it was last time round and no better equipped to deal with the physicality of the Prem.

We don't have the budget to try and recruit for a system that changes week in, week out, or doesn't really exist. Who and what is our "weapon" with which we're trying to hurt teams? That question stands for both this season and any potential promotion..

Also, and I'm more than happy to be proved wrong here, but would we classify Brentford, Leeds, Wolves, Villa, Brighton as "fairly direct"? They've all survived and I'm not sure I would...

After being humiliated in the PL I believe many fans need to see something, anything, that could give a little bit of hope and enthusiasm for a return to the top flight that would give us a reason to think we can give it a go. The problem with what we’ve seen so far is that although we are getting the results, the performances would be taken apart and destroyed in the top flight. Had we not suffered at the hands of the PL before, then the excitement of being at the top of the table would have overtaken the concern about the very obvious limited ability in our play. The fact that we have been here before means we know of the punishment to come if this is what we’re going up with.

Honestly, I haven't followed them closely enough to comment authoritatively, but I just googled 'Brentford direct play' and the top hit was 'How Brentford blew Manchester Utd away: Playing Direct, pressing traps, and targeting Martinez'. They also demolished Leeds 5-2.

https://theathletic.com/3505353/2022/08/14/how-brentford-blew-away-manchester-united-playing-direct-pressing-traps-and-targeting-martinez/

That doesn't mean you have to only be direct, maybe just mix and match a bit according to the opposition. There's absolutely nothing wrong with being direct though if it gets results, and sacrificing prettiness to get results strikes me as perfectly reasonable and desirable, especially if you'd rather aim to establish in the Premier League rather than be a yoyo club with a reputation for pretty football, but only in the Championship.

Pretty football should be something to start thinking about after two or three seasons secure in the Premier League, not before if sustainable Premier League football is the primary objective.

Comparisons, football fans always make them. Most of us are focused on the here and now, but we’re being reminded of Farkeball failings- so we will then reflect and compare.

As for whinging and wanting entertainment, I’ll stick to my club and it’s long history of playing what is loosely called good, passing on the deck football, thanks.

So back to the here and now, a more than satisfactory start to the season, but genuinely worried if we don’t go up a gear. The premiership, forget it, and only think about that bout when the promoters have booked the venue - then get in shape.

Should do, but how expansive can you be with McLean at DM and no fit left back?

We didnt press high under Farke. Very very rarely. It was not a tactic of his and actually explained it wasn't in one of his interviews. That suggests you see stuff that isn't there

Being on ignore doesn’t prevent someone from posting at you. Every comment I make is followed up by this sad old man sniping at me and he’s been doing it for years with no reaction from myself before this thread. The minute I call him on it he’s suddenly got nothing to say. Because he’s a run of the mill coward and always has been.

Reasons to be hopeful it might be different this time:

-Different manager, different approach with history of promoting a team and securing them for at least one season in the Premier League

-New American Director who purchased a $200m baseball team and turned it into a $1.2bn baseball team over 20 years.

To be honest, I was perfectly okay with being a yoyo team under Farke, with fun Championship seasons alternating with miserable Premier League seasons that just might work out if we happened to get lucky one day.

Fans were kicking and screaming about relegation at game 11 under Farke and wanted change. They got what they wanted, so they really should just shut up and leave the details to the club, especially while the results are superb and in line with immediate promotion. At the end of the day, if they can't live with the reality of what we are, all they have to do is tune in to Chelsea, Man City, Real Madrid and so on and see pretty football where they win most of the time as well on account of the hundreds of millions they have to throw around to corner the market on all of the very best players.
