I've watched this so many times. Hairs stand up on the back of my neck, every time I hear/see this. Next best thing to OTBC at Wembley.

Not only a great song, but for it to be sung by thousands at such a (winning) occasion. Special moment.

Nothing will ever rival this, imo.

Sorry Broady, it's definitely lacking something. Perhaps because it was just a money making game, with nothing on it. Plus it's (mainly) Australians and football. (imo 😉 )

Perhaps it's because I have a soft heart for Liverpool. Not so much the club.

Luuuuuv the place.

I agree. I know it attracts a lot of negative attention but I also like the place.

One of my children came close to going to Uni there (but went travelling instead) , and I was all for it. The City had a great vibe

I remember that final because Rangers hopes were dashed with a late winner then a massive pitch invasion from Hibs fans. Clearly they then get into song.

Sorry Cc but I don't get the "money making" bit.

The continual contradiction of footy fans wanting the best for their club (we would want want to pay Buendia a fortune to stay at Carrow Road, for example) whilst despising the fact that money-making is involved.

It's a business. Stadiums need maintaining, players have their own interests to support, staff need paying.

So the 'Pool' made a bit, sold some shirts and that, but at least 100, 000 seemed to have had a damn good time as well.

Yep, that was a cheap generalization. You are correct in what you say

What I was really getting at was the SoL and OTBC songs were sung at games that had something tangible riding on it. Trophies that meant so much to fans of not so global Clubs. 'Proper' (I know!) fans able to celebrate the Clubs they have (more than likely) supported since they were bairns, waiting for a long time to celebrate such a moment. A victory for the smaller teams if you like 😉

It seems to mean more to me than a game where those factors do not come into play. I acknowledge the global reach out etc, but how many of those 95,000 will ever set foot in Anfield, on a 'special/meaningful' night and sample the great atmosphere that place can generate?

This does with ease.

I like to be open minded but a song celebrating beating the English in battle wouldn’t be my choice of favoured listening . You know , what with me being English and all.

I don’t think the English were the victims back then.

Scousers ruining something others, surely not.

Aren't the scousers always the victims?

I suppose that the Welsh and Scots do at least have an anthem. England uses a song about a little old lady who lives in a castle counting her money.

New stadium, host the tournament, and nearly 60,000 Poles - and Poland's anthem is a beauty anyway - absolutely giving it the beans.

The sick **** in me wonders what happens when the Queen dies. I mean, I wouldn't be able to sing "God Save The Queen" with a straight bloody face after that.

"Oi, God, you had one funking job!" 😉

Imagine being in a Swansea fans forum or a Celtic fans forum where they’re discussing Patriotic English songs being sung at football grounds! Funny old world!
