COVID in The Manchester City Squad

Recommended Posts

A bit more just released

Manchester City's Premier League match against Everton on Monday has been postponed because of an outbreak of coronavirus at the club.

The latest tests have returned more positive results, in addition to those of Gabriel Jesus, Kyle Walker and two staff members revealed on 25 December.

The City training ground will be closed for an "indeterminate period".

City cited "a risk the virus could spread" among the squad with the "security of the bubble compromised".

A statement added: "After the latest round of Covid-19 testing, the club returned a number of positive cases, in addition to the four already reported on Christmas Day.

"Based on strong medical advice the Premier League, in consultation with both clubs, have decided to postpone the fixture."

I have a feeling football will come to a halt in the very near future as the number of games getting called off up and down the country in all divisions is increasing at an alarming rate.

Spot on.

I get the feeling

Based on strong medical advice the Premier League, in consultation with both clubs, have decided to postpone the fixture."

may well mean, the PL did not want to call it off and Man City objected, but I should stress I have based that on that paragraph.

I'm not sure there will be a complete shutdown

But I wonder how teams like Accrington Stanley, who have 30 league fixtures to complete in just over 4 months will cope if they get any more postponements. Not just COVID, but bad weather potentially to come

Sunderland are now four games down due to Covid and The Scum two on the bounce.

And more to come, sadly 😔

I think it will be a monumental effort to get this season complete prior to  Euro 21. And I don't see that getting postponed again, or cancelled

In league 1 tomorrow there should be 12 games, 7 have been postponed due to COVID

Newcastle have 2 players affected so badly that they're unlikely to be seen again this season. And one of the others had to be taken off at half time against Fulham suffering from exhaustion.

If I was a footballer at the moment I think I'd be a bit worried

Managers this morning talking about how they follow protocols. Funny thing is, before Chelsea played Villa last night John Terry was walking around the pitch hugging every Chelsea member of staff he could find !

Update: 14 members of staff have now contracted John Terry Disease. People are being warned to watch out for "full kit wan*ers" as this is normally the first sign of symptoms.

Is it possible to catch racism and a very low IQ?

To prevent catching John Terry Disease it is also advised that players wives self isolate.

There are already two players at Newcastle with 'long COVID'.

I agree, the season could be stopped any time,   especially if we go into a more strict mode with a Tier 5 , which seems likely as the NHS appears to be in huge trouble.

Indeed

I had it, my positive test was some 5 weeks ago now. I had it pretty mild I believe, however once my ten days were up had 2 weeks of being exhausted and still not sure if I am 100%. I know it effects everybody different ways, but after my experience find it hard to believe a footballer can be back to their best after a few days, but they are much younger and fitter than me.

Unfortunately I think you're right, this incredibly congested season is only going to get worse with these cancellations.

That’s really interesting as maybe perception, but my wife insists at first ( other than the obvious physical contact when tackling ) there was no hugging when they scored, no arms round each other at the end, no shaking of hands from the coaching staff ect but that seems to have changed.

In the latest round of testing the PL have just announced 18 positive tests an increase on 7 from last week.

Well it’s general knowledge that footballers are not gifted intellectually but even the thickest of them should realise in the present environment you do not fall on top off each other as seen in the weekend Premiership games unless you are having an affair with said goalscorer

I have a 65 year old unfit slob of a friend who was annoyed at having to isolate because it had little effect on her at all.

My neighbour, who is 35 and runs marathons, still feels awful 5 months later and has to have a rest after walking to the bathroom.

Covid seems to be totally random in the way it affects people.
