Carlton Morris to Barnsley

Good luck to him, I think if this didn't come up he was looking at a free transfer to MK Dons, hopefully we get a little bit of cash for it too!

Good bit of business if we get some money for him.

He came through the academy so other than wages (which a chunk has been covered by loan clubs) he's not cost us a fortune.

He needs a full time club for his own future and maybe a club like Barnsley might be good for him.

If we get a couple of hundred grand we'll have done OK with six months left on the contract. He's more a victim of circumstance and indeed not being Pukki. It was also obvious that he was a good, committed pro who gave himself every chance but other facts got in the way.

Shame he couldn't quite make it through the door with us, but definitely one I'll wish the best of British to. Would be nice to see him come good.

So, the last of our great 2013 FA Youth Cup winning side has officially departed to Barnsley. What a fabulous opportunity for the lad given his horrible injury setbacks he had here. I always had the feeling he wouldn’t quite make it here, with the greatest of respect, but it’s great to see he’s joined such a forward thinking club. Barnsley showed they can play good football - and I wonder if when Barnsley play Brentford or Bournemouth, Carlton will have his Sergi Canos moment ala Brentford v Leeds and play one final part for NCFC? Let’s hope so. Good luck to him, he’s worked hard for this and it’s a great move for him with promotion prospects to the PL of their own 👍

It's always difficult for young players to break into any first team. Have just looked and from the Chelsea youth team in 2013 only christensen and loftus cheek have got anywhere near their 1st team.

Well said Alex Moss. Barnsley are doing a lot of good things. Good Luck Carlton Morris

It’s a great move for him given how well they’re doing, and when you look how close he appeared to be to having to call it a day after that injury. I honestly thought he’d never make it just because the poor lad could not catch a break - but I’m very pleased to see that his hard work has paid off, he has earned this move through guts and determination, not to mention ability but the latter was never the issue anyway. I have this feeling that, even though he’s only 25, he will be one of those late bloomers in football. I remember Holty was training him up and had taken him under his wing, and I won’t be surprised if Carlton (and Barnsley) might just see the payoff from learning from the master in these coming months and years. What a story that would be for Carlton if they were one of the 3 teams promoted to the Premier League at the end of the season.

300k sensible bit of business.

Totally agree. I think with stability and a supportive manager, he'll find his level in the lower Champ.

Lower Champ? Is that a level? Do you mean you think he’ll only do well against the teams battling relegation? Or, if he’s playing for one of those lower Champ sides, he’ll score a few for them but not at a club in the upper Champ?

Russ Martin has already said he’s seen enough to know that he’s above League 1 level. Which is obviously a hell of a lot more than what we’ve seen of him (through no fault of his own thanks to that injury right at that time you would expect him to start kicking on). Barnsley will be the best side he’s played for regularly, and with the amount of chances an attacking team like that will undoubtedly carve out, I think he might just surprise a few. If the fee that Ricardo reports is true, then that could be a good bit of business for both parties.

There's also Aina who is playing in the Premier League and Boga, who scored both of their goals, has been a top performer in Serie A for a couple of seasons now and will likely join a top club for huge money before long. Even Lewis Baker and John Swift are having respectable careers, so most of that Chelsea side have done well, which shows how well our boys did.

As for Morris, does anyone know if we have any add-ons in the deal? A sell-on clause or even a buy-back option for a couple of million could come in handy if he becomes a good Championship striker; more useful than the £200-300k up-front fee.

If 2021 is half as crazy as 2020, then you never know, Stuart Webber *may* join the Pink’un message board, Wacky!

Crazy that ‘FOOT’ isn’t allowed through the censoring, Wacky!

It means I think he'll find a regular starting position in a team playing in the lower half of the Championship.

Not sure about that, cameo sub appearances at best early on.

Unfortunately Morris' lack of goalscoring was his downfall here compared to say Idah as he cannot play upfront by himself so well and get the goals to go with it. He's very good at what he does though, holding it up and he would well in a team that fields two strikers and I wish him all the best at Barnsley.

i would give my right, whatever it is, to hear Webbers pre match talk about the above

I'm sure the players carry that nonsense about in their heads through the whole game 😋

Reckon we can get Webber to do it on a PPV basis, all proceeds to CSF?

I'm not talking about early into the move. I'm talking about with time. I think he's capable of doing a job for a lower champ team.
