I'm not sure that he is saying that at all T and indeed Ricardo was all for a hard and early lockdown (like many of us). I know your view very well and am in sympathy about decisions that may have been made that may have been influenced by Brexit (e.g. that 'lost' email regarding the PPE problems). But I wouldn't say anyone has argued that lives and jobs are more important...more that they argue that there are different ways of looking at the issue. ricardo 7,928 Posted August 28, 2020 (edited) UK and Germany numbers still well below 1 percent of those tested today.(UK 0.7% 754 in hospital) France and Spain the real front runners at the moment with 3 to 5 percent positives. Italy also seems to be having a spike. ( France 4535 in Hospital) https://ourworldindata.org/coronavirus/country/france?country=FRA~DEU Plenty of useful graphs to compare different countries. Is it a case of non compliance? the French have never been avid rule followers. Germany however seems fairly stable despite a similar uptick to the UK. I know a bit about France and believe that there is a lot of movement around the country this time of the year ("les aoûtiens") because the French love their big summer breaks. So I'm guessing that a period of holidaying (starting late July) is very likely a logical reason. Lots of socialising. The rurals hate it especially when the Parisiens arrive, a bit like Cornwall hates Londoners.

They are urging folk not to panic. Think lots of local lockdowns are in order (calling them confinements which is the word we use for pregnancy!). Did we ever have 7500 new cases in a day even at peak? I cannot recall.

You would definitely think so. Testing is up but it only accounts for some of the increase. As another poster said the other day (yellow fever?), it's going to be time to "buckle up" very soon. ricardo 7,928 Posted August 28, 2020 However it is still only 4 percent of those tested. In the early stages it was not unusual to find 30 percent on much lower testing.

Odd (or not) that you should know that bagster speaks French fluently enough to translate the above Perhaps your other 'mate' Benjamin the donkey could help. For those not aware the above name joined late Weds night and then proceeded to post highly offensive claims about Joe Biden and myself accusing both of us of ****philia. Thankfully the posts were removed at some later point. However it should not escape the notice of most that the first name of the above is part of Bill and Ben, and the latter a play on the democrats use of a mule as a 'logo'. Not the first time that this sort of posting has been seen late at night/early hours of the morning I can also add, that when the troll logged out, 2 minutes later RTB logged in. Make of that what you will. It should not escape
Barbe bleu 1,031 Posted August 28, 2020 The brexit and trump threads are incredibly nasty. The brexit thread especially has long since ceased to be a discussion and instead had become some modern alternative to bearbaiting. It should be deleted completely. Luckily this thread has just about survived with some integrity

I'm increasingly of the opinion that we all had much more much earlier than previously expected. Not that I'm letting the Henrys who went skiing at half term off just yet. Bill 1,788 Posted August 28, 2020 have yourself a break hand crank - it is nearly 10.30pm and you have been on this forum since 7am this morning, and I am concerned that you will create another Ben10, or Benjamin the donkey to post offensive stuff you need a life outside of this forum, one that does not involve making up names to post on a football forum I've just checked and the weather in Rennes is fine tomorrow you could take the C5 for a spin, you could imagine you are driving up the single carriageway A11 on the way to West Runton get a hands free set and you could even be phoning people as a track and tracer (now forgotten), breakfast in the now closed pubs around Smithfield market so have a good le weekend cranky and don't forget to say bonjour to bagster....... when you next login as him

I copied and pasted a report from two front-line Italian doctors some time ago, it highlighted that the viral load they were seeing in patients after the main wave had gone through was much lower. I can't understand why this sort of thing is at least not being looked at and verified (or not !), surely anything we can learn about the virus must be of benefit. Edited August 29, 2020 by Mark .Y. What is being looked at and what is being reported are, I suspect, different things. The media here are very 'faddish' in their reporting and probably quite far behind the state of current knowledge

You just have to pick through it and make your own mind up and have regard to proper peer reviewed papers.

Cold boring facts and the slog of Covid research go unreported as opposed to dubious headlines such as 'Vaccine by Christmas 'and so on.
