I do hope the talks go well.

Looking at the many photos on Twitter it appears that the meeting in Italy is BJ doing his typical tomfoolery to impress or to make people laugh.

You can't really seriously be argue that it was the French who were the ones who first said the agreement that was signed wasn't sufficient and that it should be changed or drop are you? 

As much as some in the UK would like to pretend we are the injured party, it's been years in the making, we have been duplicitous throughout and now the French are playing the game we have taught them to expect us to play. That's all it is. Live by the sword, die by the sword.

As to why Macron is "so stupid" as to play along, its because it just doesn't matter to him, he isn't answerable to British voters, he is answerable to his own; which in a democracy is as it should be.

It appears Apples, reading some of the usual papers, that Brexit is upsetting lots of Brexiters. An unhappy lot. They voted for all of it and the government even negotiated it and announced their agreement in gleeful terms....but..... it is all going like our coastal waters (will leave you to insert the appropriate adjective)💩

Cop26 is far more important than Boris and Macron. In addition, who will come off worse if we really start a trade war with France, we were told the EU needs us more than we need them for trade, is that really true ? I don’t think so.

Reading the following it does seem a deliberate antagonism of the French in particular.

Number 2 in the thread seems most relevant:

"2/ What is the current situation? We do not lack just a few licences, but more than 40% of French detailed requests. For the EU as a whole, around 90% of the expected licences have been granted, but all the missing ones are French."

(Yes, it's a sad state of affairs where I find a French minister far more credible than Frosty the No-Man.)

Just a reminder that fishing contributes 0.1% to the UK GDP (https://ukcustomssolutions.co.uk/2020/12/23/fisheries-an-industry-thats-worth-0-1-of-the-uks-gdp-is-holding-up-the-talks/). It is clearly not in the interest of the country or the UK fishing industry (which depends fundamentally on selling into the EU) to provoke a trade war over this issue. The government claims they have only refused a handful of licences to French boats, so just whose interests are being served by ramping up this dispute? The government claims they have refused licences to a tiny number of small boats who can't prove they have previously fished in UK waters and who refuse to carry tracking technology, so why not show some leadership here and grant the licences and offer an extended time period to introduce the new technology? What better way to prove to Europe and the world at large that the UK is a genuinely cooperative and good-willed nation precisely at the time when it is hosting Cop26 the success of which will depend absolutely upon a cooperative spirit.

Oh dear! you're in for another disappointment. The actual story is that JCB have struck a deal with an Australian firm to IMPORT from them hydrogen fuel which it will then distribute. So it seems brexiteers are now so deluded and desperate they are celebrating money going out of the country to Australian manufacturers as a "win" for the UK.
