Well b back 3,250 Posted July 16, 2021 I wonder if we can try and get the thread back on track, this is ā The Positive Brexit ā thread and was started I understood to note what was positive about Brexit to the U.K., and acceptably what was going wrong after Brexit. It seems to being deflected to other Countries which donāt effect the Brexit decision at all.Ā Letās get back to the Brexit debate and the U.K. rather than Poland and Hungary. Outside of the EU the UK would be treated as any other non EU country. However, the only land border with the EU (Ireland) could not be used as a border between the UK and the EU, as it would break the terms of an existing International treaty. This was known by everyone, however thickos believed brexit liars when they were told this would not matter. Five years on and in contrast to Johnson blatant lies there is now an EU customs border, this time in UK territory. The cost in checks and delays have seen businesses in NI move trade to Ireland, just as UK businesses have located into the EU to avoid the same hassle. EU workers who were told to fck off by brexiters as they were not welcome in the UK have done just that. They will find work in businesses that are now based in the EU where once they were in the UK. On the figures above, this equates to a loss of around Ā£1.7 Bn to UK businesses over a year, which will only grow as NI/RoI cross border trade flourishes. Any wonder Rees-Mogg established "an investment fund in Ireland ahead of the UK leaving the European Union". He knew, as did anyone bothered with even the most basic check, how piling costs and delays on UK businesses would be a massive burden. Something consistently warned of by the CBI. So where does this leave the stupid ? Not with John Redwood who also advised his clients to move their money into the EU. Or fellow brexiter Sir Jim Radcliffe who moved his car production out of the UK to the EU. Another leading brexiter, Lord Ashcroft, advised UK companies to base themselves in Malta. Meanwhile, thick brexiteers find themselves being booted out of their Spanish homes - and the media is endlessly being regaled with the constant whining of brexiters, bleating about how they were lied to by their betters (see June Mummery). Still, the thickos have the prospect Johnsons levelling up plans.........as long as they email them to him š¤£ Ā
SwindonCanary 455 Posted July 17, 2021 Ā The Northern Ireland assembly voted to accept the NI protocol. In fact they have voted in support of it no less than 9 times. Including amid the ongoing arguments being created by a minority of Unionists, who, if polls are correct, will be an even smaller number as soon as there is an election. Ergo the majority of people of people in Northern Ireland are happy with the current arrangements. Despite what British politicians suggest, they donāt want British sausages because they donāt eat British sausages. They donāt eat the so called UKās favourite Irish sausages.Ā Ā Ā In 2024, the protocol allows for a vote in the Northern Ireland assembly to continue their being in the protocol.
