The best thing I've done for myself (and by proxy, for those around me) in the last 5 years is to start learning about various types of philosophy and the ethics / virtues that they discuss. Although I'm still a beginner, and have lots to learn. Religion and spirituality are in decline - these traditional bastions of ethics and morality have slowly been replaced with rampant nihilism, commercialism, or pseudo-religious socio-political movements. I'd 100% recommend reading some philosophy ('virtue-based meaning' type stuff, not necessarily Nietzsche) for anyone who feels unsettled / angry / upset within themselves or the world in its current state. It helps you AND it helps you help other people. Win / win.
