1.
@lappinitup - Re McNally. We didn''t receive any money for Lambert & team because of clauses in their contracts which Villa exposed, thanks Lambert''s agent Athole Still who gladly made them aware of this loop hole. I have no evidence of this whatsoever, but would suggest if you don''t believe, contact David McNally. His email address is easily findable I would imagine.
So basically, you post a rumour and then expect somebody else to substantiate it for you.......... OK
2. I''ve always liked Mark Robins quip during our 5-1 win at Everton in 1993. When someone asked what the time was he came out with "5 past Southall".
3. I remember watching the teleprinter on Granstand during the Seventies to see the results come up. For those too young to remember it was like watching someone using a typewriter. I can clearly remember one afternoon in December 1975 when the scoreline - Liverpool 1 (pause) Norwich 3 came up. Then had to watch the classified results a few minutes later to believe it was true.
4. Ridiculous decision. Totally expect Lee to go on to bigger and better things than where Huddersfield are now headed. I need to adopt a new League 1 team.
5. Agreed about Surman. He has always had great technical ability and has added a great work ethic to his game this season. For me he has been our most consistently effective player over the last 2 months.
6. I think what this highlights is that we are not afraid to vary the way we play to match up against the opposition. At West Brom we did hit a lot of long passes into the channels for our strikers to run on to. The difference between that tactic and a long ball team is the word ''passes''. On other occasions, particularly at home with Foxy at the base of the diamond formation, we play a short passing style. The fact that we have scored a lot of headed goals this season has also added to the long ball team perception of some opposition fans. What this fails to recognise is that far from hit and hope crosses many of these goals have come from well-worked moves that have stretched opposition defences creating space for a cross and headed goal (e.g. Surman at Wolves)
7. Good luck Oli. Scored some valuable goals in our league 1 season and would be a good signing for any club at that level.
8. Just read that and was about to post. Seems that Mark Hughes is being lined up. Also news on TWTD. Sound like they are keen for Warnock to replace Jewel!
9. Still there as far as I can see: http://www.eveningstar.co.uk/sport scroll down about half-way.
10. Unbeaten over Christmas / New Year against 2 sides that have recently played in the premiership and the top placed team in the championship. Well done lads - you''ve done us proud.http://services.pinkun.com/FORUMS/PINKUN/CS/emoticons/emotion-21.gif
11. Don''t know, but I do know where I''d like to shove ''em. [;)] Maybe that should be the penalty!
12. Martin and Elliot for me. Oli to come off the bench when their defence starts to tire.
13. Glad I don''t have to watch them every week. Absolutely disgraceful team that has been moulded in the image of their manager.
14. It did take a while for Fox to establish himself in the team, but he matured into a great winger under Mike Walker''s management. He also developed a great understanding with Chris Sutton. I''d rate him and Hux as our best ever wingers with Kenny Foggo in third.
15. Swindon 2nd and Huddersfield promoted through the play-offs.
16. Gillingham at home for me. Would be the first time we would be promoted immediately after a home match since before 71-72 (when we were promoted after winning at Orient). All promotions since have been achieved after an away match or after our closest rivals have lost when we have not played (Sunderland at Palace in 2004).
17. 1) Norwich 92 (Champions on goal diff) 2) Leeds 92 3) Charlton 86 4) Colchester 83 5) Millwall 78 6) Swindon 77
18. I used to enjoy Keth Bertschin''s goal celebrations. He practically did a lap of the pitch with a look of sheer delight on his face. I paricularly remember one from an FA Cup 3rd round match v Ipswich in 1983 at the Barcla end. He made a monkey out of Terry Butcher, tucked the ball under Paul Cooper and hared off down the touchline right in front of the Ipswich fans. Classic stuff!
19. Charlton''s next 4 matches are: Yeovil (H) Brighton (H) Southend (A) Stockport (H) They all look very winnable to me. This is far from over.
20.
There was a brilliant football book someone recommended on here a while back:The Miracle of Castel di Sangro, I think. I second that recommendation, it''s hilarious, sad, touching and makes you care about a tiny Italian Serie C side.
Beat me to it Mr Chops!
21. if you''re happy to look a bit further afield than NCFC try The Miracle of Castel di Sangro by Joe McGinnis. The book follows the story of a team from the Italian village of Castel di Sangro during their first Season in Serie B. Best book about football I''ve ever read. A season with Verona by Tim Parks is also very good as is Football Against the Enemy by Simon Cuper. Happy reading!
22. Yes, absolutely. Best goalkeeper to ever pull on a Norwich shirt in my opinion, during my 37 years of watching the Canaries.
