  1. We do seem to have an inordinate number of players made of glass compared to other teams.
  2. By not going to the pub/restaurant/friends house to watch either. If we all just turn it off, there would be no money and we'd get our game back. But we all know that's not going to happen. Therefore teams like Norwich can only compete with a billionaire owner, and if there isn't or can't be one we're pretty much doomed to the Championship being our top level.
  3. As mentioned before, if you look at US similarities and the way in which they move "sports" around for purely financial gain, this is just the first shot across the bows. I think everyone knew it would be rejected out of hand. They will come back with a slightly watered down version again and again, until it is accepted. There are some "unknowns" however. What will Amazon/Sky/BT do if their enterprise position is threatened? Will Fox/NBC etc or even Google/Apple/Facebook/Netflix/Disney move in? The broadcast and tech sphere pretty much controls the world now - why not football? One thing is clear - if we want to stop anything like this happening, we need to cancel our TV subscriptions en masse. I suspect that won't happen, but maybe there's a Greta for football out there somewhere....
  4. Can't see how he can survive. As he should never have been appointed in the first place that would be a result for the EFL.
  5. It seems a very high figure in comparison to others, but I'm very glad he'll be staying and hope he tears the league up.
  6. According to Sky, the majority of the Championship clubs are supportive of the proposals and they quote an unnamed source at one as follows:- "We can survive in the short and medium term due to player trading and parachute payments but ultimately the club's finances are fundamentally supported by the return of fans. Without that in the medium to long term our business model as a self-financed club no longer works." I'll leave you to guess who that unattributed quote might be from, but as there are only 5 clubs in receipt of parachute payments and of those five, Bournemouth, Cardiff and Watford are not self-financed it's between us and Huddersfield....
  7. It's no surprise that clubs with absolutely no chance of ever being near the PL are voting to get £3.5m a year each is it?
  8. I suspect we will promote Omobamidele to the first team squad if Farke thinks he's good enough. If not, we'll get another one. Personally I would prefer the first option rather than loan a youngster for a huge fee and then be committed to playing them, or paying a fee for a permanent signing who probably won't play.
  9. Agreed, but are we going to give him a chance to learn those lessons or just villify him for making the mistakes? It was a short 18 months or so ago that most on here were killing him with criticism for not being Buendia. Suddenly, after half a decent season, he's worth £18m or so and now we are killing him for not being Lewis or Godfrey or Aarons. If he's good enough in training to be selected he should get our support. I've never seen anything other than 100% from him on the pitch. He can be a frustrating player because he is so close to being really, really good but that's because he's still developing. I also don't see him and Buendia being able to thrive in the same team, but he's a great option to have in my opinion.
  10. This is pretty classic negotiation stuff. I did suggest on here several months ago that Rick Parry would be very bad news for the EFL, and this is the first shot across the bows, so to speak. The outrage will eventually die down enough for slightly reduced proposals to be accepted. Putting the decisions in the hands of the 9 longest serving teams, for instance, will disappear because it makes no sense to include Southampton and West Ham and exclude Leicester or Wolves who are comfortable bigger and better teams at the moment. In general, the re-sizing of the leagues makes complete sense but all that will happen if they loan £250m (not a gift, a loan on future TV income) is that the players wages will go up. We have seen over and over again that more money in the game goes straight to the players and their agents so it is completely pointless trying to suggest we can get to any sort of level playing field. The fact is there are too many clubs. I actually think that PL teams fielding a B team in League 1 or Two is a good idea and it would create massive interest. The Championship would effectively become PL2, which is what the FA and EFL really want to happen anyway. Evolution is inevitable, and "qualifying" for the top league in terms of ground capacity, facilities etc happens all the way through the football pyramid - this is really just a version of it.
  11. Look at the state of the goalkeeper.....
  12. As a centre back he already looks a better fit than Godfrey, but I concede that Godfrey has a superior all round game and ability. The defence will be much stronger with Gibson in it. Godfrey never convinced me - far too many avoidable errors. I'm sure he will develop into a fantastic player, he just isn't a very good centre back at the moment.
  13. I remember Redmond doing that for us against Swansea away - we lost 1-0.
  14. Maybe - but so far they both look better than the players they have replaced.
  15. I agree - especially with the lack of crowds, I think the realistic plan is that we really push for promotion next season rather than this. With money in the bank and a more settled team, more developed youngsters and a more established way of playing throughout the club, which I think is already bearing fruit at the development level. I think this is the "vision" which has been sold to the new players. We are not likely to see the best of Placheta, Sorensen, Idah, Martin etc this season. We also have several players who might "expect" to be part of the first team squad next season in the Champs, (McCallum, Dennis, Famewo, Thomas, Hondermarck, Mumba etc) but not in the PL. You could even argue that going back up this season is not actually in the long term interest of the club, other than banking some bigger cheques (tin hat on). Having said that, a playoff campaign is the minimum requirement to remain in that top 26 stated aim, and I expect that to be our criteria for success or failure.
  16. The first four wouldn't come or be allowed to come unless there was a guarantee of first team football. Bennett is a good shout though.
  17. And how would getting a 22 year old on a permanent deal go down with the likes of Famewo and Omobamidele, who are the next in line for stepping up? I think a loan for the Arsenal guy is much more likely.
  18. Maybe true - but there'll always be a question mark. If what you say is true then it was our scouting that was at fault but when he first arrived, full of confidence, RVW's running off the ball, into channels and off the shoulders of defenders was streets ahead of anything we had here at the time - certainly up there with Pukki's.
  19. We did buy a true star - Hughton turned him into a donkey. Even now I can't understand why you would buy such a player and not play to his strength. Imagine him playing with confidence in a Farke team.
  20. They've been using these in SE Asia since the 2002 SARS epidemic. Eventually we'll catch up with what the rest of the world is doing, I guess.

  22. It was still boring to watch and we only finished as high as we did because Man City were on the beach. He was a dreadful manager for us.
  23. It seems that young goalkeepers quite often have a few poor years or get burned out early - I remember Mervyn Day from the 1970s and there are several other examples. Even Joe Hart kind of falls into this category. It's hard to remember anyone who has truly excelled at a very young age as a keeper and who is still excelling at 32.
  24. This is quite interesting - if they get Gunn, we can go back after Butland and resurrect his career.
