  1. We all know Martin has potential and without his goals we would not have gone up this season, but there is a huge difference between that and the premiership. When did a premiership club last buy a league 1 striker, not very often. Added to that Martin is not the finished article. he is home grown and we want him to do well. He is a good finisher but lacks pace and he work rate varies a lot from game to game. I would not have put him in the top 6 league 1 strikers this season
  2. Young lad bags of potential and has had a great season his first proper one. I guess he is totally confused at the moment about his future. Given that he is from hexham he will clearly want to carve out a career with Newcastle in the premiership . At the moment i doubt he will be given that opportunity unless Newcastle have serious injuries in that position. I doubt very much if he would want to sit out most of the season on the bench at Newcaste but neither will Rudd here
  3. Many centre halves get better with age as they gain experience. Like anyone confidence is a factor and after the first few games this season he has been great. He was far from our worst player in the previous 2 season either. No one questions Lamberts judgement and he is no fool. If he picks the Doc that is good enough for me, likewise if he finds better so be it
  4. Lets be objective about Spillane. He is young and has potential. He played well earlier in the season and was great against Orient in the home game prior to injury. Having said that he was very poor indeed against Gillingham. Jury has to be out he needs to get his fitness and confidence back as well as jump into the championship. To have him as your first choice right back at the moment would be naive and reckless
  5. His best days are well behind him . he is older and fatter since then. He hardly played a game in league 1 so why keep him on in the championship. The club is not a charity case
  6. I have enjoyed this season very much. Having said that i would take 12th place in the championship next season. If things god forbid went toes up again in the future and we went back to league 1 this season has shown it is not an easy place to get promoted from
  7. I want the owls to stay up but it is out of their hands. I did think Irvine somewhat of a starnge appointment and after an initial bright statr they have faded. Of course if it were not for Palaces 10 point deduction the owls would be down already. I am not convinced they would beat Palace even if it came down to that in the last game. I fear they are going down but they have been there before several times and bounced back
  8. Needs Hernia Operation will be fit to fight for place next season
  9. No thanks past it we want young hungry players
  10. Rubbish! I agree with those who think he has to improve a lot more to have a future in the Championship
  11. He is the type of player who9n a good side will get you the goals to get promoted. He will cost £2m is which is way out of our league these days
  12. Regarding CBs Doc and Nelson have taken us through much of this season. I think the Lambert style is to stick with players who deliver until they do notthen someone else gets a go. The championship does look to be quite level next season. I think Burnley will be strong but Hull and Portsmouth are in a mess and far weaker than Newcastle and west Brom. In addition i think the sides that come up with us this season may struggle unless they invest, Leeds and Huddersfield are in the best position to do that. The Doncasters and Blackpools have shown the way as to how small clubs can do well provided they have a decent management team. We do need a bit more quality and we can do well but dont expect another promotion season, at least not yet
  13. I think they have alreadey borrowed £10m against next seasons parachute payments. Almost like a gambler who does know when to quit
  14. To be honest it never crossed my mind that he would go anywhere else. It will be a big season for him next year as he has not had a lot of exposure at chapionship level. I hope it goes well, i think it will though goals logically will be much harder to come by. A return of 15 or so league goals would be realistic and a decent performance
  15. I bet he does like his Cumberland sausages and pints of Jennings though!
  16. Hull appear to be in better shape than Portsmouth but not by a lot. Their Chairman Pearson appeared to be beside himself last night with not much of a clue what could be done next season . He stated that they had loads of players on very high wages, long contracts with not transfer value ie crap! The premiership is a mixed blessing for smaller clubs and getting and staying there is not worth risking your club. Burnley are down but they have no debt 2 years parachute payments and a good championship squad, with a half decent manager they should be up again in the near future. What price on Hull being in league 1 again soon ?
  17. Out of contract in the summer. I expect him to sign another one but how good and consistent is he? Yesterday he had for me one of his better games of late. At league 1 level he has for the most part looked decent but he was poor the year before. I think we need more quality in midfield next season which could mean Russell and Smith fighting it out for one of the central midfield spots and Smith would get my vote
  18. Prior to joining us he had been at Hartlepool for much of his career. When he first joined a lot of the Hartlepool reaction was that he had been excellent but had gone of the boil and lost his way somewhat. Clearly with the right manager and the challenge of a bigger club and more to play for he has risen to the challenge. He is great in the air and reads the game well. I think he will do very well next year and deserves to start with Doc
  19. It has been commented on several times that it seems to take him a few games after suspension etc to get back to fitness/ Sharpness. He is the only player of his type at the club and we are very relient on him. I do worry what he will be like after weeks off in the close season. He has been great for us and i am sure will be one of the first names on the teamsheet for next year but we do need a big striker as cover
  20. Funny how people at the same game have such differing views. For me most of the side seemed to be thinking about their holidays with the exception of Nelson, Docherty, Forster and Russell. Spillane and macnamee played the worst that i have seen them 5/10. Rose tries hard but looks more of a Stockport player than a Norwich one and Hughes always seems to look better when he comes off the bench rather than start which is a worry. The substitutions did make a positive difference
  21. Tempting but it would be ironic if 20 000 got banned for life then !
  22. All very sad to me. He clearly has affection for the club but the sad reality is he is finished. If there was any doubt about that then his time at Shrewsbury in league 2 has proved the point
