ron obvious 1,711 Posted February 7, 2005 Having seen Jarvis'' goal on MOTD & bearing in mind the opinion of a lot of posters that Shackleton is a cut above the present defenders, would it be worth trying these 2 in one (or more) of the "hopeless" fixtures (Manure, Arse, Chelski)? It may be a risky strategy, I know - the resultant stuffing could be so traumatising that it damages morale for the winnable games. But then again, it could be more easily ignored because not the strongest team. And we might learn something useful, positive or negative, about said players.I must say, the defence looks desperately in need of some pace, which Shackleton apparently has - did you see Fleming''s despairing lunge at the ball when he realised Campbell had him beaten?Opinions anyone? BedsCanary 0 Posted February 8, 2005 Are you that guy who rings up Niel Adams and Radio Norfolk after every home game to say Shackell should be in the team?Shackell is a great promising defender, just as Jarvis is a striker but neither of them are good enough for Premier league football (yet). Lots of people sing Shackell''s praises but people tend to forget the few first team games he played last season when he had total ''mares and buckled under the pressure.I''m not knocking him, I''m sure he''ll make it but youngsters are not the answer to our current problems
LinkNR9 0 Posted February 8, 2005 Good idea. But I''d rather see Crow in with Shackell rather than Jarvis.
At last? 0 Posted February 8, 2005 I think your title is accurateand who is this mysterious Shackleton chappie?
Canary Boy 0 Posted February 8, 2005 If Shackleton is Jason Shackell, then yes, I would give him a game...but not against the big guns. I would bring him in against one or two of the ''easier'' games...if there are any!I think he would show a lot more composure than Fleming and Doherty have done recently. BlyBlyBabes 0 Posted February 8, 2005 Shackleton? Must have signed on later than Walter Pandiani did! If so, it would certainly be a mad idea to play this chap. Never mind, it happens to all of us sometimes. Now, that fellow Shackell - he''s worth giving a go......... OTBC
ron obvious 1,711 Posted February 8, 2005 Whoops! Many apologies. Perhaps I''m unconsciously comparing the quest for survival to the exploits of the intrepid explorer? Or perhaps I''m just not paying enough attention.
ZLF 335 Posted February 8, 2005 Is this mysterious shackleton related to the bloke on the ladbrokes bettig sheets at the games - 50-1 each week that Shacknell will score first (or last) I keep checking the squads his name still does not appear! OTBC
3pmkickoff 0 Posted February 8, 2005 How can you deem them hopeless fixtures, no team is unbeatable
DumbleDelia is Magic 0 Posted February 8, 2005 Surely against the hardest fixtures we should play our absolute best team possible? Games like Arsenal, Cherlski and ManYoo are of course hard, but by no means impossible. There is normally a big shock once a season (last year Wolves V ManYoo?) why can''t it be us this year? Temp the Revelator 0 Posted February 8, 2005 DD, you''re SO right. Has anyone seen Chelsea''s fixtures either side of the game against us? They play Barcelona, Liverpool (Carling Cup final), then us, then Barcelona again........now, which one of those fixtures will they care least about? I seriously think we have a chance, there is certainly no better time to play them......

Even so, Chelsea are a pretty mighty team to beat - since only Man City have managed to take all three points off them in the League, and even that was a dodgy penalty decision. For me, even with an under strength side they still look awesome and bring on the big guns for a 15 min spell at the end to clean up.We put in a good performance at Stamford Bridge only conceding 1 goal, but can we really play at our current form level for the whole game against a team of huge names? Be realistic...(having said that, Arsenal have both made draws versus Palace and WBA)
Thirsty Lizard 3,215 Posted February 8, 2005 Arsenal also drew at home to Southampton, and only thanks to a 93rd minute equaliser,By the time we get to play them Arsenal may feel that they are completely out of the Championship race and will be concentrating on Europe and the FA Cup instead. And with one of Messrs Lehman or Almunia in goal we may just have a chance.
We need a Manager 0 Posted February 8, 2005 Shackell deserves his chance to show what he can do , so maybe he will not be up to prem standard right now ,but then does anybody seriously believe Fleming is ? and at least we gain a bit of pace at the back. Anderz 0 Posted February 8, 2005 Couldn''t we play Shacks with Fleming AND Docherty in a five man defence with Edworthy and Charlton as wingbacks?
Salopian 1 Posted February 8, 2005 Fleming and Doherty must be tired and a little shell-shocked. Give Shackle a chance - he''s the future in whatever division we are next. He''s quick and doesn''t waste the ball!I like the effort of McKenzie, and his pace, but his conversion rate is very poor - two goals in how many games. I''d give Crow a chance. Northern Canary 0 Posted February 8, 2005 i think both Shacks and Jarv should be given chances to prove themselves. I not sure when though. but we should explore all options (especially in defence). but i know it could be too much of a risk at the moment.

Dean Coneys boots 1,531 Posted February 8, 2005 yes but the team norwich will play will be made up of very impressive reserves wanting to make a point. It will still be very very tough
3pmkickoff 0 Posted February 8, 2005 From Sky SportsNigel Worthington has urged his players not to hide when it comes to playing the top three in coming months. Worthington also revealed that he will be trying a new formation to combat the flair of Chelsea, Man Utd and Arsenal. "Gunny will be coming in for Green, I''ll be playing left back and I''m asking Mark Bowen on Saturday if he fancies it. Doherty will be wearing a wig to fool the opposition as well. Hopefully this should be enough to make the opposition think we''re taking the piss"When asked about subs, Worthington was coy but did alude to having Rick Waghorn on standby"The boy''s shown great composure when writing about the failings and troubles of other teams in the league. As you all know, this alone will save us from relegation this year"When questioned about Jason Shackell''s lack of first team football, Worthington made one thing clear."The lads not got the right attitude, he turns up with a full head of hair at training. End of story"
Tumbleweed 106 Posted February 9, 2005 I think its worth trying, great experience for them provided Nige tells them its no reflection on their ability if they get rolled over. We can''t expect any points against the top 3- our defence can concede any goal at any time to anybody and I have no confidence whtsoever that they can raise their game to such a level to match those sides. We should try to save ourselves for the real 6 pointers at Palace and Saints and home to Charlton and Brum- win all those and we are safe.
