Renskay 36 Posted November 14, 2012 ... Supposedlyhttp://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2233051/Norwich-want-Marouane-Chamakh-Carlton-Cole.htmlTBH I would actually be reasonably happy if we got Chamakh, not so much Cole though
Yobocop 1,105 Posted November 15, 2012 Me the other way around...chamakh would literally do f all for us and would be in a sulk all the time he was here, cole would put a shift in but loves it at west ham... I can''t see either happening to be honestWe''re gonna look abroad for a striker or go back in for Nicola Zigic
Koreacanary 0 Posted November 15, 2012 Chamakh would be a terrible signing... He''s got to be one of Wenger''s worst signings.
crabbycanary 2 Posted November 15, 2012 Agree with thoughts about Chamakh, can''t see that being a/ a signing and b/ successful.Thought a lot of people wanted a good ''little un'' up front, signing a ''big un'' wouldn''t seem in the mix unless Morison is off, but again can''t see it being Cole if that was the case. Keep the rumours coming!
smooth 114 Posted November 15, 2012 I think Carlton cole is an upgrade on holt, but I do think £ will come into it.If we got dalton cole and a striker from the European leagues I would be happy. Cole needs to prove a point, I don''t know if he is in the mind set to do that but I do think he is an upgrade on holty
Move Klose 303 Posted November 15, 2012 1 of worst. Really even tho he was a free. What about richard wright, jeffers, stepanovs. Would do a job if played every week.

Cole needs to prove a point, I don''t know if he is in the mind set to do that but I do think he is an upgrade on holty
What evidence do you have to back that up? Carlton Cole is regularly derided by West Ham fans as being a technically limited footballer, who puts in alot of effort, but has little to no end product. His nickname is can''t control, enough said.Whilst Cole has spent the majority of his career in the top flight, that is not an indication of his true ability. He has only twice broken double figures in the league (he scored 10 goals in both the 2008-09 season and the 2009-10 season) which Holt has already outscored Cole''s best in one top flight season (15 league goals last season) and his well on his way to getting at least double figures in this campaign (3 goals in 8 appearances). If Holt scores 23 more goals in his time in the Premier League (and if he sees out his three year contract and Norwich remain in the Premier League, that''s about 7 goals a season) he would''ve equaled Carlton Cole''s entire scoring record in the Premier League. If we compare them in the only other league they''ve played in, the championship, then Holt still comes out on top. In a West Ham side far superior to most teams in the league last season Cole scored 17 goals, Holt scored 21 in a weaker Norwich side. So in what way can Cole be regarded as superior to Holt? I''m not seeing it.
ROBFLECK 132 Posted November 15, 2012 Well Chamakh was prolific in France...but I don''t believe a lot of this...pure speculation...typical DM
Shack Attack 0 Posted November 15, 2012
So in what way can Cole be regarded as superior to Holt? I''m not seeing it.
Me neither. Cole has shown glimpses in the past of having what it takes to be a very decent modern number nine but those glimpses are all too rare. Whereas Holt offers more to the team in terms of both goals scored and the ability to drop deep/wide and link the play (as I said last week he should not be compared to other traditional target men, Cole included, as he offers more than that).I guess it all boils down to whether Hughton wants a more disciplined focal point for his attack and by disciplined I don''t mean in terms of attitude or temperament but positionally. I know people like to come up with various anti-Norwich conspiracies why Holt has not been picked for England but I''m becoming more and more convinced it is because Hodgson has no time for centre forwards who drift out from the centre. He is a very conservative manager who wants his players to stick to strictly defined roles. Does Hughton want the same thing? I''m not convinced but there are elements of his style which remind you of Hodgson teams not least the lack of aggressive pressing high up the pitch which was a hallmark of Lambert''s team in favour of pressing zones deeper in your own territory. Maybe he will buy a more traditional number nine and play him up front with Holt to allow him to drift whlst still retaining a fixed point of attack but this would likely mean no place for Wes which I think would be a mistake. It is an interesting dilemma for Hughton as clearly Holt is our best goalscoring option but he does cause you other problems, a problem which Lambert identified but ultimately failed to find a solution for, by wanting to be involved in areas which a number nine maybe should not. You either do what we have to date and put up with it as the goals outweigh the other issues, get him to change his ways and run the risk of diminishing his influence or find a replacement. If you''re looking at the third option I don''t see Chamakh or Cole scoring enough goals to make that worthwhile.
Renskay 36 Posted November 15, 2012 How can people just say Chamakh would be an awful signing ?Have you actually seen him play, he is a great player that is just not used correctly or often enough by his current club and in any other team in which he had a regular role he would easily score 12+ goals a seasonHe would be a great signing. Renskay 36 Posted November 15, 2012 Also to add, Marouane Chamakh is an absolute specialist in the air and since most of our vital chances to score in games this season are coming through headers that always end up being poorly taken, would it not make sence to sign someone who is completely lethal from just these type of chances and will in all likelihood take them regularly ? Rolf Harris 31 Posted November 15, 2012 calton cole is on 14,000 a week is he worth it?
Gingerpele 0 Posted November 15, 2012 We have Holt and Morison who are good at scoring in the air... They haven''t forgotten how to head the ball. If you are suggesting Holt isn''t any good in the air because he didn''t score with a couple of headers (one of which was just pushed on past him by the defender so couldn''t get clean contact) then thats a bit odd.We don''t need another big man, unless Morison is leaving. Otherwise we''ll just be extremely on dimensional and Hoolahan will soon be replaced by a big man and we''d turn into Stoke. And Carlton Cole is in no way what so ever an upgrade on Holt, his record for West Ham is roughly one in every four games, Holts record with us is better than a goal every other game (in all competitions with both players). If Cole were 3/4 years younger then maybe he''d be a good signing, but he''s 29, never looked great in the Premiership, i''d be disappointed if we signed him. havemyhowsonit 0 Posted November 15, 2012 Nooo not cole. He''s as bad as Zamora! Chamakh would be a superb signing. He would score some goals here and would be adored by our fickle fans
Mungo Bumpkin 0 Posted November 15, 2012 It would be a "Meh...." at best for both of them. Both would be on top dollar in our wage structure and neither would run through brick walls for the cause. We need someone with fire in their belly.
shefcanary 2,444 Posted November 15, 2012 If Kane doesn''t recover fully by 1 January, how about a sneaky loan bid for Chamakh. Like others I think if he gets traditional high ball service his heading ability will see him score many goals. But probably only at the expense of Holt, and certainly Morison. There''s the real rub. Salopian 1 Posted November 15, 2012 No, thank you. I don''t think that either would answer our needs, unless CH could get something more out of them than they have shown recently. I don''t know how much they would cost, but whatever it is we must add a bit and get someone better.
Yorkshire Canary 118 Posted November 15, 2012 Snodgrass apart nearly all of our signings of late have come totally out of the blue and i expect our new striker when he comes to be no different
York Canary 28 Posted November 15, 2012 Carlton Cole looked good a couple of years ago and has looked garbage more recently. Some of his finishing is so woeful. I would be quite disappointed to spend money on him. I''d rather take a gamble on someone else abroad maybe or a loan. Chamakh looked s***-hot when he signed for the Arse and I know he''s been in and out in last few seasons and not rated as much, but I still think he has a bit of quality and technique to get goals. He''s not really a lone striker though so I guess he''d be partnering Holt. The one thing the article proves if true is that we''re definitely looking at players who''ve played in the Prem before and appear to be out-of-favour i.e Cameron Jerome, C.Cole, Chamakh.... were we linked with Kenwyne Jones as well?
York Canary 28 Posted November 15, 2012 What about Sordell from Bolton? He''s not really in the proven striker category though. I''d have Lee Chung-Yong as a Norwich player in a New York minute too. Bolton also in big debt. I''d be interested in Kenywne Jones as well as I think he could do a job. It''d be nice to see us take a gamble on someone abroad perhaps like Abdellaoue or even someone like Gary Hooper from Celtic
AJ 1,224 Posted November 15, 2012 Saw Chamakh play against our reserves last season. He was awful, absolutely shocking. Would never want him to be here, I feel we can do better than that. Bendtner would be better. Carlton Cole wouldn''t be a bad signing by any means, but I do think he''s probably on a fair bit of money.Good shout for Lee Chung-Yong, probably wouldn''t be hard to prise him away from Bolton, and Jones isn''t a bad shout either. Sadly I think Hooper is beyond our reach now
Tim Allman 1 Posted November 15, 2012 Good to see that Cole and Chamakh’s agents are doing their jobs and getting the clients'' names in the paper. As a (hopefully) mid-table team we''re going to get linked in the press with all sorts of expensive rubbish that want a final pay day at our or another club’s expense. As regards these two, I’d be amazed if either joined City.

I have to be honest in saying that I haven''t seen Chamakh recently and can''t really judge him, but he doesn''t sound good by what you say so probably best avoided! Lee Chung-Yong is a player I have seen however (as have many other in his time in the Prem with Bolton) and he looked absolute quality. He scored in their last game just gone I think and was back from a long-term injury recently. He apparently stayed to show loyalty to Bolton after getting injured last season. I reckon he could go if they don''t look like getting into the top 6 by the end of next month. I''m sure Bolton would let him go for a reasonable price and he''s a midfielder that got goals and assists in the Prem for them. I''m sure there''s other clubs sniffing around him and he was rumoured to be on Arsenal''s/Liverpool''s radars, but that was before his injury I think. I think Kenwyne Jones and Holt could batter defences, but I don''t really rate Cole anymore after seeing his recent cr*p performances. Some of his misses were incredible. I''m sure a change of club can change people and their form, but I''m not sure he''s worth the gamble. Hooper I agree with..just realised that we was reported to be valued at £8m by Celtic lol
smooth 114 Posted November 15, 2012 Long term answers these players are not, but I old see cole coming n and bagging a few goals this season with a point to prove, hs goal in the championship play off shows you what he can do. He is a tidy player, I prefer him to jerome or jones.Although kenwyne jones warm up before he left Soton in front of the Barclay was best exhibit of a players I had seen after Pierre v hooijdonk. But he has lost that. Will never forget v hooijdonk just him on his own in front of the Barclay and the shots he did from outside of the area to warm up with we''re outstanding.Personally two strikers from Europe is what I would like to see, cheaper and just as good.
