Yellow Messiah 0 Posted April 5, 2012 Having recently had a look at Ipswich''s new kit, it got me thinking about whether we should have 2 stars on our kit commemorating our victories in the League cup in 1962 and 1985, it would certainly get more younger fans interested in the history of our club. havemyhowsonit 0 Posted April 5, 2012 Why would stars make the difference? The shirt in yellow n green is more than good enough. Everyone knows us!

grantroederdisaster 0 Posted April 5, 2012 A big NO! It would only be open to ridicule from S*um fans who know we haven''t won as much as them and it would seem like a copy cat exercise! I''m proud of Norwich City FC being very original, why do what other clubs do?
Old Shuck 291 Posted April 5, 2012 No way. If we ever win the Premier League, then maybe... But seriously, no.
Jacko 0 Posted April 5, 2012 No way, would attract ridicule from all over and quite rightly so. Fair play to Ipswich. The League Championship, the FA Cup win and the UEFA cup win were fantastic achievements. Ones which neither club are likely to achieve again for a very long time. They can be rightly proud of that history and were fortunate to be managed by Alf Ramsay and Bobby Robson to of the greats of the game. You can''t dispute that no matter how biased you are. However history is ultimately just that, history. It does not dictate how Ipswich will do today nor I doubt a player will join of the strength of what happened over 30 years ago. Its all about the here and now. At the moment Norwich are a Premier League club and Ipswich are a very ordinary championship one. The setup at Ipswich is also a pretty shoddy one. When you contrast the abilities of David McNally and Simon Clegg in the boardroom there really is no contest. Norwich have a bigger fanbase which has stood up to the test of being relegated and dragged into League 1. Something which Ipswich cannot say with their falling attendances, which have averaged out a around 18,000 this season. But ultimately the two clubs are of very similar stature and held in very similar regard in the footballing community. And thats what makes the rival a lot of fun and very intriguing because it is so finely balanced.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on your point of view, I think the clubs are now poles apart in the stature stake. Norwich have become almost the epitomy of a successful well run club with good prospects and potential. It appears to me - even trying to take an objective view - 1p5wich are almost completely the opposite.
Jacko 0 Posted April 5, 2012 Just as they were when they were finished in Europe in 2000/01 and you wouldn''t have trusted our board to organise a raffle. Both clubs of course have their peaks and troughs but these things do have a habit of coming round. I have consciously followed Norwich since 1995 and you are right the gulf has never been wider in our favour in that time, than it has been now. I am absolutely loving it! William Darby 0 Posted April 5, 2012
Stars on our badge would make us look like a complete joke, league cup is nothing.
To be fair it wasn''t back then, but to be honest stars would be a stupid addition.
lappinitup 629 Posted April 5, 2012

league cup is nothing.
To be fair it wasn''t back then.....
By 1985 it was well established but in 1962 many of the top sides didn''t take part. Norwich City (newly promoted from the third division) beat fourth division Rochdale 4-0 on agg over two legs. So in my opinion, while ''85 was worth a "star", ''62 wasn''t. One "star" on our shirts would look even more ridiculous. [:''(]
Bill 1,788 Posted April 6, 2012 It is no more than a sad attempt at a wind up by one of our regular binboysWith little else to not be ashamed of. the old ''glorious history'' bit is all that can be dragged out Sadly it is a measure of how little success the paupers have actually had they they have to parade around with these primary school best in class type stars stuck to their shirts, something other small clubs such as Huddersfield and Burnley don''t feel the need to do. Perhaps, when next sewing these funny little stars of the chests, they could get round to knocking off the big chip on their shouldes at the same time - after all, it is not our fault they are over £70m in debt and they have as much chance of achieving success in the bext 12 years as the two pandas have in the next 12 months
Branston Pickle 4,150 Posted April 6, 2012 It is the naffest thing they have ever done, IMO - there is no doubt they had a super side under SBR in the late 70s and early 80s, and could easily have won (maybe deserved to win) more. But that was 30+ years ago. They are not alone in having had good spells in their history and those (dozens of) much more successful sides don''t feel the need to be quite as feeble-minded about it. (Also, who are they to decide what actually constitutes a ''star'').Actually, you could almost argue that being so wedded to the past is holding them back, so let''s hope they continue with it!
