misterc 0 Posted August 17, 2010 Four or five years ago the last time i went carrow road but my memory of that day is a little hazy given the excellent standard of cask ales in the Compleat Angler. Times before that it was that horrible little cramped stand with seats that broke when you sat on them. I like norwich its a good day out albeit a little strange and very easy to get lost!! Never been into a pub called murder before.

The Murderers is in fact a nickname for the pub, where a lady was murdered in the 19th century - some say she still haunts the pub. The original and official name for this hostelry is The Gardeners Arms.A visitor who was meeting somebody at The Murderers, asked me for directions there, and he enquired with some trepidation as to whether it was a dodgy pub. Tombland has nothing to do with a burial place (tombs) - no, tombland is a Saxon word for an open space. It was the site of the old Saxon market in Norwich. When the Normans arrived in Norwich in the 11th century they moved the market to where it is now and built that beautiful cathedral close to Tombland. Another Saxon oddity is the word gate to mean street; eg Fishergate and Colegate (that''s enough gates, ed).

San Miguel 0 Posted August 17, 2010 if you don''t like cramped stands then i suggest you go to Portaloo Road in Scumswich - certainly won''t be cramped there and never mind you paying £28 to get in, they will pay you to make up the numbersbut of course, if you go there, get your shots at the doctors first
