Well there was certainly some fighting between Palace fans and Sheff Weds fans - one Sheff Weds fan hitting Palace fan here on the pitch

There were 8 arrests after the game all outside the stadium and the rumour re the Palace player getting punched wasn''t true either, read somewhere that a fan did approach a Palace player but a policeman got there first and escorted the player to the tunnel

From Will in Kent, via text: "Terrible scenes at Kenilworth

Road, Cheesy. The York players went to celebrate with their fans after

the match, but then got blocked from the tunnel by the masses of Luton

fans who had run onto the pitch and over to the York fans. The players

had to go up into their fans'' stand, and when they then tried to sneak

round over to the other side to wait for the tunnel to be unblocked,

they had to take evasive action as the fans on the pitch threw missiles

up into the stands at the players. Some ran back behind the fans, and

police had to escort most of them over to safety. They then had to wait

hidden away for 15 minutes for the fans on the pitch to filter away,

before they finally were able to get down the tunnel."Its Luton, so not much of a surprise, however: -The pitch invasion in 03/04 at Crewe was brilliant, and im sure if we did one at Carrow road it would be friendly all round. But from a clubs perspective, you have to discourage it. Every team has its share of idiot fans, and you cant legislate for how they might act. I know comparing our current home games to the likes of Sheff Wed-Palace and Luton-York is a massive stretch, but these things are too unpredictable for the club not to put out warnings. (Although the rumoured 5 year banning order is a bit much, if true)

I was watching that live on SKY, how disgusting it was to see missiles being thrown at the players, and them having to take cover behind the stewards and police.  Not sure if any of them were hurt, the pictures weren''t clear enough on the TV.

I thought the behaviour from the Wednesday fans yesterday was a joke. Of course they could feel frustrated by the result, but the players were only celebrating with their own fans. None of this would have happened if the Palace players didn''t go on though. This is the bad side of pitch invasions. [N]

Yes, and not a wig, jester hat or inflatable in sight. Only random and senseless hate and violence. Just like the good old days before football was sanitised by happy folk and their families.

These scenes brought it home to me just how much I miss those times.....

Add to that Stockport Huddersfield a few weeks ago where there were also major problems and this becomes a huge nightmare for clubs. Presumably all these these clubs will now face major fines or worse. Based on these three incidents things really make more sense, players safety is paramount. Looking wider we are also bidding for a world cup at present, and looking wider still the last thing we want is to protect the players we all have to be caged in.

Where has this OTT stuff come from? No-one is going to get banned.

All the club did was say that the payers would not do a lap of honour if people were on the pitch. That is why the invaders were booed.

I think a very common sense approach has been taken here, and I am glad to see that there has been a clear distinction made between people carried away and people using violence against stewards.

A Palace player did get punched by a Wednesday fan as he was leaving the pitch with a police escort, one big lump ran up to him and hit him with a right hook before quickly moving on, this was shown on SSN. I always thought the red half of Sheffiled had the more thugish fans out of the two but now I''m not so sure.
I think unfortunately this game brought out a lot of the more idiotic Wednesday followers - big game, £10 tickets, 39,000 sell-out, and it reflects badly on the real Wednesday fans who are on the whole a good bunch.

So, in the light of recent events, are we agreed that pitch invasions are, on the whole, not a great idea?

I think a little common sense is needed here. You travel to an away day where you team beats the home team, which sends them down. You then decide to invade their pitch and celebrate on it front of all those home fans. I am not condoning violence, but it''s a pretty stupid and provocative thing to do.

I was at the Palace Wednesday match (mate a massive Wednesdayite with a spare ticket) and I''d like to say a few things:

1. The majority of palace fans did just want to celebrate with their players, however 4 or 5 ran all the way infront of the stand I was in waving scarfs and flags at the wednesdayites.

2. Despite a row of stewards and a row of riot police infront of the palace fans, they didn''t seem to make much of an effort stop any of them run on the pitch

I''m not trying to condone what the wednesday fans who went on the pitch did, as it was disgraceful. However, there was no sign of any trouble until the palace fans went onto the pitch. It doesn''t take much common sense that celebrating infront of 32000 upset fans is not the best idea.

I don''t entirely agree, in the right manner and right occasion I don''t think pitch invasions are such a bad thing, Luton fans who ran on the pitch were just a bunch of thugs looking for a riot, the Palace fans who first ran on the pitch against Wednesday were asking for trouble when they ran on the pitch in front of 35,000 upset Wednesday supporters. The Newcastle fans were also bang out of order with their pitch invasion when they relegated Plymouth.
But thats the trouble, you have to cater to the lowest common denominator. There may be thousands of fans just wanting to celebrate, but, by the law of averages, there will be a handful of idiots in amongst them. And as soon as public or player safety is in question then the answer is to keep people off the pitch.
Norwich City statement over pitch invasion
Oh dear... not the most wise of statements by McNally.Another pitch invasion and of course the trophy will still be presented.  The club had to back down last week and have already looked foolish on that score once.I would think that it would be unlikely that anybody would want to go on the pitch again this Saturday, following the almost laughable reaction by a large number of fans within the stadium to last weeks so called pitch invasion.  If it did happen again on Saturday however, what a great way to alientate yourself from a large number of fans after a successful season... [:$]Once again, what harm was really done after the Gillingham game?If it is true that a Steward was hit then surely that is a matter between the two individuals concerned and the police?  PS - me and a few others are still waiting to hear from Norfolk Constabulary on assaults and threatening behaviour by Leeds United fans.  I don''t see the club having stood up for anybodys safety on that day, despite making errors in not keeping the Leeds fans in their seats after the full time whistle went.Get a grip and offer support in whatever way you can to anybody that was assaulted on the pitch, but don''t even think of Criminalising  fans who never hurt anybody.
