sgncfc 1,228 Posted September 16, 2009
I rememeber when we had Huckerby and Crouch both in on loan and after a few years, people were wondering why we bought Huckerby instead of Crouch who went on to play in Champions League and play for England, but i still believe to this day that we made the right decision to bring Hucks in instead of Crouch. Hucks was a great player and great person. Hope he comes back to help us out somehow in the future.
Another example of the Board not backing the manager - we could have had Crouch for £2m in the summer after our promotion and instead he went to Southampton
Captain Holt 522 Posted September 16, 2009 Hucks, what a man. A true, true great, who helped give this club the most success it has had in 15 years. I hope you do get another role at the club (and I''m sure I''m echoing the thoughts of thousands of others), and look forward to seeing you at Carrow Road in the future (as a fan or a member of staff). All the best, OTBC!
NCFC_Shaun 0 Posted September 16, 2009 I''ll always remember when Huckerby let Graham Stuart know ''how it was done'' against Arsenal in the Premier League season. The ball dropped nicely for Stuart to have a go, but completely mis-kicked it. The ball went flying back to the man himself, Darren Huckerby, who had taken the corner - so Huckerby picked it up, smashed it towards goal, and it flew into the top corner. An excellent goal to sum up an excellent footballer.

In Dubious Battle 0 Posted September 16, 2009 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dO11cu-N6f8I know we''ve all seen it a million times before, but that Birmingham goal was pure genius. The greatest player we have ever had! Much respect, not just for the way he played the game but how he conducted himself throughout his time here. I look forward to seeing him at carrow road in the stands as one of us.
Tookie140 0 Posted September 16, 2009 Class Player, one of the best winger we''ve ever had, shame we never got to give a proper farewell at Carrow Road.Would have kept us up last season For Sure.
Tookie140 0 Posted September 16, 2009 Class Player, one of the best winger we''ve ever had, shame we never got to give a proper farewell at Carrow Road. We always clinged on to hope that he would return one day as a player but in our hearts we knew that he wouldn''t and if he would, he wouldn''t be the same player because of his hip. chippy savory 0 Posted September 16, 2009 Hucks is the best player to wear a Norwich City shirt and always will be my favorite player, a fantastic player to watch, my memories are the Cardiff and Birmingham game where he scored the most sensational goals i have ever seen for Norwich. Wish you all the best for the futureAnd thanks for all the memories
patrickhiggins 0 Posted September 16, 2009 So many happy memories...one personal favourite was the brilliant solo effort away at Plymouth in 2005 to rescue a point from nothing and make a long journey home a lot easier. While Hucks was in the team there was always hope for a moment of magic like that.....deserved member of an NCFC all time best eleven.
Sephiroth Owa 0 Posted September 16, 2009 Aside from Iwan, the only true legend in my lifetime. First getting my season ticket when the new south stand was built, treated to a typically poached goal from Hucks in the opening game against West Ham. Went on to score many goals over the next few years and will always go down as my favourite and most exciting player to play for City.OTBC.
improper fraction 0 Posted September 16, 2009 Watching Hucks was awesome virtually all the time You never knew what he was going to pull off with the ball. He confused us as much as the defenders with his nifty footwork & speed. Also a wonderful guy - I remember seeing him in Delaney''s with Iwan just before Christmas 2003 & he stopped to say ''hello'' - very gracious. He was also a great ambassador for the club in his off-pitch activities. I heard how, after having any treatment at the N&N, he would pop up to the children''s ward to see the kids & spent about an hour there chatting to them. How many other football stars would do that in their spare time without the media attention. That for me sums up the man, Darren Huckerby.
Yellow Hotrod 0 Posted September 16, 2009 One of the best things to happen to the club in recent times. Fantastic as a player and the loyalty and honour he displayed puts most of the professionals in todays game completely to shame. A class act.
Blainsey 2 Posted September 16, 2009 Thanks for rejuvinating my interest in NCFC Darren. I''d gone stale for my love of the club, and you reinvented that!!All the best. You''re always welcome in Norwich.
NCFC_Edward 0 Posted September 16, 2009 Darren Huckerby to me was a hero. Being a part of the younger generation growing up in sunny suffolk, life can be hard being a city fan, but he was the one man that made those Ipswich fans jelous. His loyalty was apparent to all, something that our dearest rivals never had. We had players equal to Huckerby, as in Ashton, but they always had Darren Bent, both of those players, when it came down to relegation were happy to move on and return to the premier league. Huckerby however stuck to this club, he knew what he ment to the fans, and he knew how could he could be. And even when things started to go wrong, he didnt hide away, he stood up and was counted for, which is unusual for a football player of his style. My favourite moment of Hucks had to be at the 2008 open day. He was being escorted out to his car to avoid the mob, but decided to stay and sign autographs and chat to the fans for a good hour or so. This for me epitimised his character. My favourite moment on the pitch had to be his stunning solo effort against Birmingham, to carry the ball that far, around so many players, and then to pull off a top class finish, was just pure genius.Good luck in whatever your career takes you to next Darren, a true Norwich City legend, and a true gentleman. pliff 4 Posted September 16, 2009 The goal against Cardiff in our promotion season when he got the ball on the halfway-line and ran diagonally across the cardiff half and scored or the goal against Wigan at home the same season great moments imo from a true legend
InLambertWeTrust! 0 Posted September 16, 2009 Where to begin?Darren (if you''re reading this) I have you to thank for supporting thiswonderful football club. Before you came to us on loan I didnt reallyhave anyone on the city team that I really liked and respected as afootballer. I was only a young boy then but having a footballing herowas just as important then as it is now. When you were on loan here Ifell in love with NCFC (to the level I love the club now) and I wasvery very happy when you signed. Gave the City a massive lift. I loved watching you rip up premierleague defences and set up so manygoals in the best league in the world. Who can forget the wins againstMan Utd and Newcastle amongst others. We went down in the end but I hada club to be proud of and a player that I respected massively.Even though there were on going problems at the club like managerissues (Worthy, Grant and R**der) and board dilemas it was still greatfor me to go and watch city - because of you. A player that gave hisall and battled through injury to do his best for us I was devastatedwhen you left. You still had so much to give. You knew that, the cityfans knew that. Unfortunately Roedent did not. What a horrible way to end your glittering career at a club that lovedyou and a club that you loved. Had it not been for roedent you''d stillbe with us now- of that I''m sure. However it gave another set of supporters the chance to fall in love with you and for many of us City fans achance to watch the MLS and the Quakes. A chance to engage and formfriendships with a set of supporters that are fledgling (sp?) in termsof the history of football. The Quakes are transformed because of YOU-they have a brighter future because of you, I will watch my new team with interest .[Y]Football isnt that popular in the US as we all know but you havedone your bit to help that process along. Good luck in whatever you do in the future, if you take the sameattitude to life as you do in football then you will be a success nomatter what. Norwich City and San Jose Earthquakes have a lot to thankyou for. I''ll never forget you Hucks, dont forget us. P.S come join us in the Jarrold some time, you''d be more then welcome. ca 1 Posted September 16, 2009 Hucks,When you signed and were unveiled to us on Boxing Day many years ago it was as if all our Xmas''s had come at once. Here we had a player who loved the club as much as we loved him and as soon as he had the ball at his feet the crowd got excited, the heart beat faster and you knew there was a chance os something good happening. You have been a role model for this club and your committment and honesty about all things Norwich City will always endear you to our hearts. Your football days may well be over but your memories and the good times you gave us will stay with us forever.Good Luck in whatever you choose to doCA xx

mnc 0 Posted September 16, 2009 Aside from the obvious Cardiff and Birmingham games there are 2 moments that stick out for me. The first was back in 2004 when the green n yello army took over the National Hockey Stadium for the game against MK Dons. With the away tickets completely selling out, we joined many ''undercover'' fans in the home section behind the goal. Hucks scored with a cracker of a volley and ran over near to the corner flag in front of the section with one of his trademark poses. It was so hard to contain ourselves and some of the fans closest to the front suddenly revealed their yellow shirts. The second was away at Hull - Hucks scored with a header - no other explanation needed! I''m also the proud owner of that very shirt.
