percy varco 254 Posted January 8 A legend. A word used to lightly nowadays but in this case A legend is what Beckenbauer is. RIP Sir.
Barry Brockes 157 Posted January 8 He was charged with marking Bobby Charlton out of the 1966 Cup Final. Bobby Charlton was charged with marking Franz Beckenbauer out of the game. They got to know each other quite well during that 120 minutes and became good friends afterwards. Both true gents as well.
Nexus_Canary 1,206 Posted January 8 (edited) Read this and thought it was a thread about Seb Bassong. I still remember when Bassong picked up the ball in defense, dribbled up the pitch lost it on the half way line, dived, protested while the opposition player ran through an empty defense and scored. This is what he was trying to do.... (For all the Young uns.... Beckenbauer was a defender!) Edited January 8 by Nexus_Canary

Played long before my lifetime, but he is the only person to have both captained and managed his country to World Cup glory Sad news indeed. However, he is not the only person to have performed that feat. Mario Zagallo, who died last week, did it with Brazil and Didier Deschamps did it with France.
