I know this is a marmite-style dilemma.  I wasn't sure about a Carrow Rd drummer at first personally, and yet I think have now been won over.

This week at the Middlesbrough match he was absent and it was an opportunity to see how things went without - what was obvious was that the crowd was very quiet, long before going behind, and long before the boo-ing of the Idah departure etc.

When the drummer is there, not only does it stimulate lots more chanting/singing from the first minute that wasnt happening this week at 0-0, but the away fans are truly put off. 😀

When Birmingham were here with a vast contingent, their songs were stopped from gaining momntum, partly as our drummer was on a totally different beat from their chant, just yards away from them....

Middlesbrough were a far smaller contingent for obvious reasons on a Tuesday night, yet were very obvious and vocal from the start and never deterred by a noisy Barclay. They felt more loud than the Leeds fans of vaster numbers.

I've also sat through fan dissatisfaction in many seasons since 1973 including 90 mins of "Chase out" etc and want the players to be encouraged instead of distracted by that sort of stuff.   Social media, and sites like this, plus Canary Call etc are sufficient nowadays to vent the anger at Wagner/Webber.

The drummer can return asap as far as I'm concerned.

Great post. And agree.

Always find it bonkers that a minority of fans oppose it. It improves the atmosphere, and team performance. No question.

It is a controversial statement to say that while I'm not still not sold on the idea of drums at grounds they still sound far better than clappers?

On a personal level when attending matches, do you enjoy the drum Cambridge?

I’d guess when you are attending every week as a home fan it’s hard to adjudicate. My last two matches at Carrow Road for (Sheff Utd April and Leicester September were quiet to say the least from the home ends)

Everything the first guy said. Plus I'd hate it if it was close to me. I had the misfortune to sit 2 rows Infront of the England band once. That was the last International I've been too!

The drum adds to the atmosphere definitely.

Yes, it 100% improves the atmosphere, especially if the game itself isn't creating much of one. Players have always been pro it too.

How about rattles? Still have mine from 1959 with a tattered piece of green and yellow ribbon attached and the team written on it in pen.

Do you sit anywhere near the drummer.

Maybe be we could record some chanting and then post it through the PA at extra volume like they do at Spurs, Man City, Liverpool etc.that way we could all have a nice sit down, and enjoy our Bovril 🤔😜

Witnessed that a couple of times, especially at Spurs. Very strange that they are never really called out on it. It is quite obvious and rather odd however, I'm desperately hoping that one day it will fail half way through and stop abruptly during 'come on you spurs' chant live on tv
