Striving to make sense of the Ukraine war

I love living in major historical events.

Can't wait to watch Putin get dragged out of the Kremlin and get hanged on a lamppost by his own people

I've got to say, this is massively entertaining. For years, Putin relied on mercenary forces rather than the military to destabilise other places while keeping deniability. Now Russia's generals are begging those same mercenaries to 'obey the will of the elected President' as those mercenaries take on the Russian army.

Sow the wind, reap the whirlwind.

Still think my favourite one was when Slobodan Milosevic was overthrown in Serbia. It spoke volumes that hooligans from Red Star Belgrade AND Partizan Belgrade sorta joined forces to protest. Even more biting, considering the history of suicide in the Milosevic family, was the regular shout of "DO SERBIA A FAVOUR, MILOSEVIC, AND KILL YOURSELF!"

Think you can say they were not messing around.

I don't see this as affecting the Ukrainian offensive in the short term as the defensive positions will be already made, but it will certaintly limit Russians ability to mobilise and re-inforce in the medium term.

Shame we weren't shouting something similar at Boris Johnson.

This is over lads. I said at the start this war would end within Russia.

Who will offer Putin exile? China?

We would probably give him a place in the House of Lords if he paid enough.

In all seriousness, International arrest warrant out for Putin from The Hague.

The fact that his message is a green screen so he’s either in a bunker or on the move from Moscow. Exit plan in effect. Will be Interesting to see if anyone offers him asylum

Apparently the M4 linking Rostov and Moscow has been closed because of an ongoing military coup

and the M4 in England has been closed because somebody is doing their practical exam for their “putting out cones for no reason” NVQ

Its being reported Lukashenko has fled Belarus and I wouldn't be surprised to see a coup there. I think that would have an effect on Russia and there might well end up being demonstrations on the streets.

Very dangerous indeed.

The (almost) funny thing about it is that the people Putin needs to protect him are either dead or, if alive, somewhere in Ukraine.

There’s lots of guns to a lot of peoples heads in Russia. Key is keeping Ukraine chill while this is going on. Don’t interrupt your enemy while they are making a mistake.

Vorenezh oil depot on fire.

Wagner can’t just hang around and wait to get sieged, they have to push on.

I don’t imagine they’ll encounter much resistance from regular Russian forces

The siege of Moscow is on, if there’s any British nationals there right now they should get out ASAP, always love the guys that just hang around in a war zone then demand an evacuation

Yeah, but, was Blair taking us into a war initiated by us without a UN mandate really that bad, even given that he did oversee a doctored intelligence report and Chilcott was of the opinion that Blair 'hadn't been straight with the British people' to take us into it? It can't be if he can still come and go from parliament as he pleases as an ex PM...

Yeah that dude lol

Theres always a load of idiots that are left behind, like they didn’t see it coming.

Lets face it, if you are British right now and in Moscow you are either a) some sort of consulate staff/a spy or b) into some pretty dodgey stuff

I think we in the west and Ukraine need to be very alert. A lot of very irrational things can happen when people or regimes are cornered. They can lash out to change the rules of the game.

Russia is on the brink of civil war and Radio 5 has live commentary of a ladies cricket match attended by 4,000 people. It beggars belief.

There are over 50 thousand people on Flight Tracker, following RSD629 from Moscow to St Petersburg.

Transponder now switched off. Its a Russian VIP plane on which Putin usually travels.
