Indy 3,477 Posted January 7, 2022 Not a chance, we might make top 6 but there’s a lot of clubs who will be very competitive without needing parachute money. FFP will certainly define our squad if we don’t get up first time of asking.
Well b back 3,606 Posted January 7, 2022 Not if we are relegated with Newcastle I fear.
cambridgeshire canary 7,804 Posted January 7, 2022 Really? Honestly given most of our best players are going we will have a fight getting into the playoffs me thinks
Coneys Knee 1,050 Posted January 8, 2022 I fear a period of mid table championship mediocrity awaits after this season. it makes the mess of this season even more depressing. Dean Smith isn’t a title winning manager and this squad certainly isn’t anymore.

Dean Coneys boots 1,533 Posted January 8, 2022 Last championship campaign would have looked VERY different minus Skipp and Emi. The next one will be played minus Skipp and Emi. Also this double failure on promotion will effect the players. They will have low confidence and, one suspects, not much motivation to be promoted again given the guaranteed lack of investment and a fair crack that leads to humiliation. Furthermore we spent on promotion this time instead of banking for a champs promotion push- the money is spent and was wasted. And we need more not less change in the squad / that doesn’t bode well. Especially when our best and only signing that has improved us is a loan. our better players will depart. This will give some money to spend but that strategy weakens you before you strengthen and recent acquisitions have suggested we fail more than succeed in the market, So Unless there is major change I fear this could be far more akin to when we went down with Worthy. A bounce around mid table as parachute money dwindles then back to genuine financial crisis and threat of liquidation and L1 - unless we get lucky.
JB 138 Posted January 8, 2022 Just can't see it being as easy as that. We've been "gifted" the chance of a quick Prem return, and fluffed it, as we know. To be given another chance seems unlikely especially as the Champs is such a tough league

This will please the small minority of 'fans' who didn't want us to go up in the first place.

A bounce around mid table as parachute money dwindles then back to genuine financial crisis and threat of liquidation and L1 - unless we get lucky. At first glance this post looks unduly pessimistic but (if you think it through) there's severe dosages of realism. My main worry is the shedload of money wasted on Sargent and Tzolis (judged by performances to date I hasten to add) and the latter is very likely to go back to Europe I'd say. Sargent my hang around but what confidence do we have that he could score us 15+ goals in the Championship? Rashica (if he continues to improve once he gets back from injury) would be first out of the door from that 'gang of three'. In addition, our 'solid, reliable players' from two promotion winning campaigns (think Krul, Hanley, McLean and Pukki) are likely to be severely deflated at this relegation when one considers the hype from Webber pre season. Any 'last opportunity' offers from ambitious rivals could see them fidget for a leave. Very dispiriting when all is considered.
Nuff Said 5,973 Posted January 8, 2022 Jesus Christ. Will you lot grow a pair and support your team? How many were similarly negative last time we went back down?

Not me, I actually thought we would go back up, we did it with a manager who knew his squad and won the championship within the Norwich restrictions in finances. Smith hasn’t proved anything yet, I don’t see him as the type of manager to get us up. Nothing to do with supporting the team or needing to grow a pair but to see history repeating itself over again. I tend to agree with others it’s not going to be easy this time round! But we shall see.

Every thread at the moment. Even if it starts off about something else. Still, I'm enjoying the FA Cup today. Long time since I've watched so much football on TV.
