FCC 94 Posted June 25, 2020 A bit left field this, but if we had plans to increase capacity would now be a good time to get the bulldozers in? No additional loss of income as the ground is empty anyway, that is presuming there is a plan ready to go.

Projects of such scale take many months and even years of planning, consenting, and agreement will all relevant stakeholders. That's without considering the finance structure for the project. You can't impulsively decide to have a new football stand, like you might a new car, or a new pair of jeans, just because the time appears right.

Its not like the club has done no planning though is it, can be pretty sure the plans are already drawn up because we recently purchased a strip of land behind the City stand that we needed for this project. Would require planning permission which could take as little as 8 weeks, to give somebody the contract to construct it and for financing to be put in place. Not sure that would have to take years. Wasn’t the whole of Carrow Road built in 3 months? OK, there was no such thing as H&S back then but even so, these things can be done quickly if appropriate penalty clauses are built in to contracts. Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man 4,529 Posted June 25, 2020 I've always been extremely pro-stand, but making a £30m+ investment in this environment would be incredibly dangerous. Had Coronavirus not happened and/or we had survived in the Premier League, then yes, go for it. But right now it's far too risky.

The City Stand has always been a bit of an embarrassment - a League 2 stand in an otherwise Premier League ground, and because of Covid it's exactly the right time to do something about it. Players will want to leave following relegation so money in the coffers, and it's unlikely that crowds will be allowed back for quite some time so supporters wouldn't have to be evicted from their seats during the work. Yes, with the uncertain future in a Covid world it would be a financial risk, but all of football is a financial risk anyway and it's something we've been putting off for too long. That said, if the owners aren't prepared to take a risk on the playing side, they almost certainly won't want to "speculate to accumulate" on the ground. After all, we are little old Norwich, aren't we, and we mustn't have ideas above our station. Edited June 25, 2020 by Jonncfc

Obviously this is a huge reason for pushing on with the work now, but considering we don't know how much of the bottom has fallen out of the transfer market then we may not be able to get top dollar for our bright young things. In normal circumstances, we could've raised £50m plus for any two out of Buendia, Cantwell, Aarons and Godfrey in order to fund the project, but right now nobody knows. Feedthewolf 5,756 Posted June 25, 2020 The club has also missed a trick here. They could have 'accidentally' burnt down the Holiday Inn while nobody was in there, claimed on the insurance and used the payout to build a nice corner infill.
Midlands Yellow 4,672 Posted June 25, 2020 Get it up ASAP. Players will be sold and a new stand to compliment the rest of of the stadium can be part of the project. Would be refreshing under this regime to leave something lasting and improve their legacy.

That was because three of the stands were no more than a heap of soil with terracing laid on them I would venture that things would be just that bit more complicated now 😜
