1.
I just don''t think that you can play with ten men for a half every time Laffs get sent off.
Three reds in a 10-year career?
2. Point taken, Budapest, but you''re wasting your breath. Laffs'' face just doesn''t seem to fit on here.
3. If we do go down, I agree that AN will probably retain the support of the fans (and hopefully the board). But my fear is that he may have his head turned by interest from other borderline clubs.
4. Problem solved. A half-decent summer in the international limelight and it''s unlikely he''ll be needing to warm our bench any more.
5. Didn''t know we were playing the Faroe Islands tonight. He''ll be no good against a solid EPL defence.
6. Woodman: I think you''re right that Laffs'' yellows are usually the result of over-enthusiasm, and granted about Mbokani. But Jerome was quiet (by his standards) against Stoke, and missed a couple of good chances against Southampton (and was AWOL the rest of the game) so it might be good for him to have some competition. Whilst Hooper is a reliable finisher, I don''t think he''s mobile enough for this league and I''d put Lafferty ahead of him for that reason. Plus, I think we are all worried about the current state of Grabban''s head in the circs, hence why Laffs might be useful ATM.
7. Woodman, like many on here you seem to be harder on Laffs than on the rest of the squad. He has the work rate of Jerome and Hooper put together. Presumably you''d now be leaving Whitts out after those two needless fouls getting him sent off and suspended vs Soton.
8.
Lafferty scored against the Faroe Islands for Christs sake, i am pretty sure even Ricky would have looked good against them . Its similar to knocking one in against Gorleston in a pre season friendly .
... while Rooney was busy scoring against San Marino. Thank goodness Wayne''s not on our bench hoping for a start!
9. Ha! Or perhaps the fact that we consider him 4th/5th choice shows how far we have yet to come...
10. I don''t believe we''ve ever played him up top, but please feel free to correct me...
11. Isn''t RvW already on season-long loan at Real Betis?
12. All this sounds like an irrational vendetta. He has been touted as a sha**er and a ''red card waiting to happen'' ever since he joined us - but with little evidence. He doesn''t appear undisciplined for NI, but to be on the safe side he could sit in on the talking to that AN is no doubt giving Whittaker as we speak. As for his sha***ng, well it seems he may be a runner-up in that department too. On the other hand, he is undoubtedly a very tenacious and hard-working striker, with a proven scoring record - and in our present situation we could do worse than give him an opportunity up front - where perhaps we could do with some tenacity and hard work.
13.
Someone said he knows where the net is at premier league level, well he only has 8 premier league goals. 8 in 33. Hooper not far behind that with 6 in 32.
There''s always that chap who''s scored 38/138 for Rangers, 11/34 for Palermo, 14/42 for Northern Ireland... Not the prem, I know, but he could **maybe** do a job for us given that no-one else seems to fancy it.
14. Hahahahaha - poor old Lafferty: worked hard for us out of position, despite proving for NI what he can do IN position, and is now often retrospectively criticised on here for getting stuck in too hard (unlike a certain other left-side player of ours who surely never will be). But to prefer RvW...that''s a REAL kick in the nuts! Poor old Laffs!
15. I wonder if it was Didier Drogba they shoved off the train...
16. So it looks like most are keen to get rid of one of the very few who is willing to put in the 110% needed if we are to turn things around. Anyone who watched the Brentford game (among others recently) could be left in no doubt about how bad the motivational crisis has become. Lafferty,to his credit, has proved a very willing workhorse for the team, even when constantly played out of position - and to think he was advertised as having a bad attitude when we signed him...
17. I massively need my head checking and don''t understand football...
18. I''d be inclined to keep Redmond at this point, despite acknowledging that he needs to improve his end product. A player with his pace and ability to beat people frightens defences and makes things happen - especially at this level. Btw, I wonder if his ''end product'' problem might be helped by a spell under a good sports psychologist - he seems fine in training (and, strangely, for England?) - I don''t see a ''technical'' issue with the way he shoots or crosses - but you can sense the blood rushing to his head as he gets near goal. Someone suggested to me the other day that Adams should brief Redmond to storm into the box whenever possible and to forget about end product altogether, and that he''d be worth his weight in penalties. Who knows? That would panic most championship defences, I''m sure (so long as they don''t know about his end product problem!). My feeing is that he will come good and will be a great player for us, hopefully for a few years. I agree that its the right time for Josh Murphy to benefit from more game time, but I don''t really see him and Redmond as similar players, let alone interchangeable. I want both! We are lucky to have that dilemma, with two such talented youngsters (don''t forget Redmond is only 20, less than a year older than Murphy). On the other hand, who knows if Redmond will come good, or when? I suppose I might almost be tempted to sell... If we could get top dollar from Southampton or someone else, and if we could reinvest it in a top quality replacement before this window closes. A lot of ifs. I guess that the board are in a better position than me to make that judgement call, if it becomes an option, since they alone know who they are stalking as the window closes. If there is no good replacement in the frame already, there is no point in selling now, surely?
