  1. PW was my last "in an office behind the counter" bank manager, and he was excellent. He was old school - wise, direct and didn't suffer fools gladly. I never had to endure one of his speeches at a Shareholders' meeting, but I only ever heard him talk sense. The Country would be in less of a mess if we still had people like Peter running things.
  2. No, I have a different memory from you - and one which might be wrong. Sometimes, however, a player can excite a crowd despite their ability. Just as I used to like to see Jimmy sprinting down the touchline, so too do fans with Onel today.
  3. That seems a bit harsh. I have fond memories of Jimmy sending in crosses from the wing to be nodded home. It's a shame they didn't record "assists" in those days.
  4. Didn't Farke start Pukki as the number 10 behind Rhodes, and our season faltered until Pukki went up top? I keep watching Sarge's second goal. It really does have a whiff of Grant Holt about it - we haven't had a striker who can fight off two defenders like that since Holty. Wasn't Grant Holt played out on the wing by Forest, and he only came good when put up top? What a coincidence.
  5. I love Josh's second goal. It feels like a very long time since I've seen a City player hold his own physically - and in this case against 2 defenders. I cannot see what Millwall are complaining about - Josh had a shove in the back and the two defenders tried to squeeze him off the ball and he still came out the winner. Great credit to the lad for sticking at it, despite all the grief he's had from fans and keyboard warriors.
  6. John Ryan hit a few good ones - was it Leeds away? 2-2, 78/79 season?
  7. Certainly better than Jubal Early, my go to answer for the Pointless final if the subject is General Knowledge ... he was an American Civil War General.
  8. I'm sorry, but that shirt is a crime against fashion, and the fashion police will soon be round to knock on your door.
  9. That will be William the First's fault, with his Scorched Earth Policy - something to do with Northerners being revolting, if my memory is correct.
  10. It may be that Sara can speak some Spanish - more likely than Nunez having much Portuguese. WARNING. The above statement has no supporting facts, making it more of a guess - without much education.
  11. I hope we won't give the Americans the chance to have any input into the catering at CR. Things I don't want for sale at CR: Pretzels, bagels, Hershey bars and Twinkies. Lukewarm coffee made with over-roasted beans. Things I don't want on the menu at Delia's : Biscuits, turnip greens and grits.
  12. The club need to be open about his travel arrangements. Ideally I'd like him to come here by ship, but if he has to fly then let it be with reputable airlines on scheduled flights. If Blind Mick at Tibenham Gliding Club offers to go and fetch him just politely turn down his offer.
  13. We've had enough of "Oven Ready Deals" for one lifetime, thank you very much.#ToryLiars
  14. Well, we are rather relying on you to give fashion a crime number and then fail to investigate, despite the CCTV evidence.
  15. Michael might have liked a bit of cash. There is a story about how he used to be driven around London, going from Bank to Bank, and paying in envelopes full of cash into different accounts. Of course it's only a story. Reportedly told by the driver. And one time the car went to be valeted and the people doing the valet found an envelope containing £20 K in the boot. Only a story again.
  16. I'm glad that I was sitting down when I read this thread title. Having been one of the sources of speculation about Michael Foulger's financial situation, I was quite puzzled by the strength of Tilly's denial that Foulger was looking to sell his shares. I will wait to see this confirmed before I start saying "I told you so." - face, egg and all that. A question for those with Legal expertise: It looks likely that the tragic death of the two pest control operatives on the eve of Banham Poultry going bust will result in a Corporate Manslaughter charge. Might this have implications for Michael Foulger's financial situation? I know that Directors can take out insurance against this sort of thing, but it might get messy.
  17. "Once ran off on us"? I thought he tried to run off with someone, which is why he had to leave.? There's nothing like a half-remembered bit of gossip.
  18. It reminds me of the old joke about going to see a fight and an ice-hockey match breaking out. Is this about Brexit? Did Delia do the pre-match catering?
  19. That's rather assuming that we go straight back up, in true yo-yo fashion, just to give Shearer et al something to moan about. In a perfect world I'd hope for a season of consolidation, with several transfer windows for Smith to mould a team which stands more than a snowball's chance of staying up.
  20. Their Goalie should have been sent off - foul on Springett before our second goal and then GBH on Rowe for the penalty. Pathetic attempt to suggest Springett dived.
  21. You've posted this on the wrong thread - you meant to put this on the Nightmare thread - didn't you?
  22. And just to complete the misery ( as we Brits can do better than any other Nationality) the draymen in London went on strike and there was no beer to be had - just warm Guinness.
