  1. If Hughton is kept on then I think it is even more unlikely that RVW will be sold, given how much work Hughton put into tempting him here. I think that Hughton has done well over the last two years on the transfer market, but I do not have a lot of confidence in his ability to build a good team, nor to know how to use those players to their best abilities. I do believe that staying in the Prem is by far the biggest priority, but this is an entertainment business too, and all too often this season - and last season, the entertainment has been poor. I cannot choose which dim and distant past to stop wallowing in. I will have to try and work out which was the first game I saw at Carrow Road. It would have been in October, either 1967 or 1968, and we lost 2-1.
  2. What is a bit frustrating is that without the 6 points they got off us Villa would be level with WBA on 28 points.
  3. It would seem likely that there will be a change of manager at the end of the season. It is also likely that we will not have Elmander and Becchio in our squad next season, which leaves us with two current squad strikers, or one if we sell RVW. I am in the keep RVW camp. Hopefully a new manager will come in who will build his plans around Hooper and RVW, using them as an either/or and concentrating on giving them service.
  4. When threads degenerate into abuse being thrown around between two posters. I think Churchill had something to say about this, when he wasn''t selling insurance.
  5. If we get relegated then I think this should be cancelled for this season. If we stay up it means that someone has probably found some form between now and the end of the season and they may deserve the award.
  6. The EPL reminds me of playing Squash - if you play anyone who is pretty much at the same level you can have a good game, but play anyone who is much better or worse than you and the game is very one sided, and not very enjoyable. OK you occasionally get lucky and play a good player on their off day, but Squash ladders soon sort out the good players from the rest. My point is that in the days of Division One the teams were much closer in their ability and chances of doing well. Now, in the EPL, for most teams survival is the only goal (and, as I have said elsewhere, this means also that cups are an un-needed distraction), so, if the quality of football to achieve that survival is disappointing, then it is understandable that supporters will become indifferent and detached.
  7. TEC - I would have thought that the words on Roy Buchanan''s best known track would be what you cling to: " I''ve walked in a lot of places I never should have been, but I know that The Messiah he will come again."
  8. It is true that the previous allotment holder planted seeds which made the allotment pretty to look at, but the flowers were flagging by the end of his third year. He claimed that the Clerk to the council wouldn''t let him have any manure to bolster his crops, so he went off in a huff and rented an allotment elsewhere. Some say that his new allotment isn''t doing that well, and he''s been seen sneaking around at night trying to dig up some of his old plants to take back to his allotment. The allotment under Mr Hughton''s management wasn''t anywhere near as pretty, but a late flourish meant that it had its'' best yield for years. Despite putting a lot of manure on the plot last summer the allotment is no prettier, and is threatening to yield less than for some time Some are blaming all the rain we''ve had this year, while others say that is planting scheme is wrong, and that he''s bought the wrong seeds. Yet others say that he needs to learn about Companion planting, such as carrots between rows of onions. The people looking over the fence are divided as to whether two up front is the way forward. We are about to enter what some call "The Hunger Gap", which is at its'' worst at the end of April and early May ; this is a time when there is little to harvest from the allotment. let us hope that Mr Hughton has enough yield before then to see him through this "Gap". If Mr Hughton goes hungry then the Clerk to the Council may be having a word with him.
  9. There was a statistic on TV about 5 out of 8 of Spurs''s lost games coming after a Europa Cup game. I know that fans of Wigan and Sheffield United will disagree, but for most clubs in the bottom half of the Premiership and the top half of the Championship playing in any cup competitions is an unneeded distraction. How long before a team clearly throws a cup game - as opposed to just playing their reserve team?
  10. Didn''t Wes score one where it bounced off his shins - and he nearly fell over celebrating that one? Also I seem to remember that Simeon didn''t know much about the winner against Derby. I don''t care how they go in these days.
  11. Well it certainly ended Bob Dylan''s career when somebody called him "Judas". Funnily enough about 30 people claim to be that "Somebody".
  12. Did someone call Wes a Lemon? Was this a reference to "Oranges are not the only fruit"? I''m confused.
  13. Aren''t we being a little narrow in our thinking here? In keeping with our aim to be a "City of Culture" I think we should consider a sculpture, or installation to portray a memorable moment or time in our history. I would suggest a perspex cube filled with water vapour to recall the League Cup semi-final which was abandoned due to fog. Maybe the cube could be just a bit hazy for 85 minutes and then suddenly fill with vapour.
  14. I agree with " None of the above". Instead, how about Delia and MWJ selling their shares to us the fans so that we become a supporter owned club. I realise that it is a stupid idea - after all no supporter owned club has ever achieved anything anywhere in the world - have they?
  15. I would just like to clarify that I didn''t write the reply from TEC. And it has to be said that his reply is just perfect.
  16. I admire your bravery - it''s only a matter of time before TEC threatens to report you to the police for Blasphemy, or at least defamation of character.
  17. I once met a conflict resolution expert - for some reason he annoyed me so much I wanted to punch him.
  18. There was a time when I thought PL was destined for great things, and I cannot stop myself from continuing to compare his recent career with that of Brendan Rodgers. If PL had moved on to Liverpool I think a lot of us would have said "Fair enough, he''s earned that", but VIlla? I too believe that PL would have struggled to keep us up last season. I also find it strange that the Villa fans cite poor tactics, a lack of a Plan B and poor substitutions as their main complaints about PL (well, apart from the results, of course), which were all things we used to appreciate when he was here. This feels like reminiscing about an old girlfriend: we only remember the good bits of our time together, and not the reality which led to the break-up.
  19. Isn''t there some theory that almost every thread on a message-board will end up with two people hurling abuse at each other. This thread must be some kind of record for the speed at which that point was reached. Ah, but this one was caused by a misunderstanding, you say. Aren''t they all? Or, at least, by a lack of understanding?
  20. Hugh Lupton, in his recent book, tells the supposedly true story of a well to do young woman raped by her Father, forced to leave her baby on the church steps, and who, when she inherits her Father''s estate, advertises for a Steward to manage for her. A young man applies and she is instantly drawn to him and they become lovers and then marry. On their wedding night she discovers that he is her son - who is also her brother. Unfortunately this is said to have happened in Norfolk, so maybe we should keep our heads down on this one and stick to muttering about sheep or something.
  21. At this moment in time a win on Sunday would give me more pleasure than winning at Portman Road. I have to say that I have been surprised at how things have gone for PL and his entourage since moving to Villa. When we got promoted I thought that he and Brendan Rodgers were the new rising stars, but Brendan''s star is certainly burning more brightly at the moment.
  22. Having just watched Manure get well beaten by a very average Greek team I am inclined to say "yes he is", especially when compared to Ashley Young - who cost nearly as much as RVP. If we can stay up and attract a good number 10 to feed the Wolf then I think RVW can start to deliver for us next season. As early as the Southampton game Redmond was guilty of shooting rather than passing to RVW - who had pulled off his marker and was well placed for a shot. I think that Whittaker did the same, so what''s the problem? Don''t they trust RVW to be there or something?
  23. The scores are level after 90 minutes. In added time Snodders takes a corner and Grant Holt is spotted - by even the 4th official (who''s spooning sugar into his post match cuppa at the burger van behind the stand - trying to rip the shirt from Bassong''s back. Snodders hands the ball to Ricky who burys it in the back of the net. We stay up and PL gets the sack. Sorry I think I must be spending too much time on fantasy writing sites.
  24. Get Ray Wilkins here. One look from him is surely enough motivation for any player to go out and win or die in the attempt.
  25. I, for one, support the Board on this one. There is a lot of money available in the Premiership at the moment and relegation would be very serious for our finances, but I would be more worried if I supported any of the three newly promoted teams given how much they have spent. Relegation is a possibility for more than half the teams in the Premiership, but how many of those teams could avoid eventual administration if relegated? I feel that the Board are running the club with our long term future in mind.
