1. "You need to zip it boy. I am an extremly proud x soldier, served in the first Gulf War and feel what our troops have to put up with now days is a disgrace, and to listen to some of the trash writen here, because someone mentions free tickets for troops is way out of line. Doesnt supprise me, with some of the wasters that call themselves british these days. Clearly most of the negative coments come from people who have no idea at all just how hard the modern soldier has it now days, and dont care, because they made there career choice. The fact that for a lot of the young lads nowdays, the army remains the only hope of a decent future, doesnt seem to feature into the narrow minded at all. Does it bother some people so much that troops get the odd freebe thrown at them ? Sad pathetic small minded individuals if that is the case." Calm down matey. You''ve been here long enough by now to realise that despite "outing" trolls and binners, City1st is one of the biggest WUMs going. He was looking for a bite. You gave it to him. I used to once upon a time, before I realised he was full of sh1t. Not everyone ''gets'' what the forces do. They haven''t got a clue, yet if you asked them if it''s essential that we retain our forces, they''d almost certainly reply in the affirmative. They certainly don''t know about the sacrifices some make voluntarily, and that''s why some people get high and mighty about the odd freebie. They''ll be telling me next that I shouldn''t get 20% off in Burger King at Moto services.
2. "Yeah, sorry but being in the armed forces is a career choice these days, there is no national service or conscription and while it is a tough career for the majority I am sure, I do not agree with handouts any more for them than any other group. The armed forces do something that I would not want to, so do nurses, paramedics, firemen, the police, dustmen, the inland revenue etc etc. It is a choice and it is paid and respected. I totally understand why some, indeed many, feel that the forces are a group to be held above the rest of society but it is not a universally embraced point of view." All valid points, and yes other public servants do jobs that many wouldn''t, but it''s a bit different for the armed forces. We get posted up and down the length and breadth of the British isles against our will, sent away from home for months on end, often with little or no notice, to some of the most hostile areas of the earth, living in austere conditions. All of this makes it very difficult for some forces families to put down roots, and every plan you EVER make is set in jelly. Holidays cancelled, birthdays and Christmases missed. If we''re told we have to work weekends unexpectedly, or 18 hour days, weeks on end without a day off, there''s no choice and no overtime (unlike other public servants). We have no right to strike action (unlike other public servants, and not that I''d want to) and no unions. We''re also being asked to do more and more work in the face of horrific cuts in numbers and budgets. The number of operational squadrons is being reduced heavily, yet deployment commitments remain as high as ever. For the next year I expect to be away more than I''m at home. I don''t think life in the forces is a bad one. Far from it. Stick with it for a few years and the pay is OK. Not stellar, but with the extra allowances I''m entitled to I earn comfortably more than the national average salary. I''m not saying this because I believe that we''re entitled to any more than any other key workers. I just think that small tokens of appreciation such as tickets for troops go a long way to making up for some of the cr@p we have to put up with. I''m not disparaging the work that the police, nurses, firefighters etc do, but it''s definitely different for members of the forces.
3. I''ve never seen them do it before, and given that we sell out every home game it''s unlikely we will in future, I''d have said.
4. ...has it been mentioned yet? Does the same poster sort it out every year?
5. Nothing to see here. Delete away, Peter.
6. "(you''ll have City 1st on your case). " Oh, the horror. I''m sure I can cope with being called "terminally dim" while he lambasts anyone that has the temerity to want "hambition" from the club, or wish for an "hinvestor". Not sure what''s going on with that tweet. That account normally only reports actual news.
7. @TransferNewsCen: OFFICIAL: Norwich City have announced the signing of Ryan Tunnicliffe on loan from Manchester United until January. -W. Any more on this anywhere?
8. It''s not jus AVIVA that are subject to whiplash claims, is it? They''re expensive relative to other insurers. They must be cheap for at least one demographic though, otherwise no-one would use them. Back on topic... I''d be interested to know whether Cisse has a bank account that pays him no interest on his massive wages. FWIW, I''d have him at Norwich for the quoted £9m.
9. He''s admitted in his radio interview that he wanted to go back north. Given that we''d have received next to nothing for him in a years time, and we have money to get another striker in, I''d say it''s good business. It''s a shame for the club to lose someone who has given so much, but there''s a right time for everything, and this seems like the best we could have got from the situation, along with respecting Holt''s wishes.
10. I''m sure the threads that will be started here every time he so much as farts while wearing a Wigan shirt will be enough of a tribute.
11. When you post claiming to "know" something, it does nothing for your credibility if there are glaringly incorrect "facts" within that post.
12. Jesus, if you''re gonna come on here spouting off like you''ve got some kind of inside information, at least get your facts straight. Priceless.
13. They don''t hate us. Their goal is to make money. They do that by covering the big clubs. If we were profitable to them, they''d put in more effort in covering us. Stop being paranoid.
14. "Lets pray that RVW hangs around a lot longer than Cashton did!" Don''t be a bellend. Would you turn down more money, a better chance with England and playing in a better division? Of course you wouldn''t, and why would Ashton? He was at a stage in his career where he needed to play at the top level. Lets not forget there was plenty in it for the club. We more than doubled our money, didn''t we?
15. It''s just reflecting where the money has been laid. The bookies don''t know anything more than we do, most likely.
16. "Norwich 75m turnover net debt £0 wage bill £37m or Villa turnover 80m net debt £122m wage bill £70m who''s the healthier club?" That''s all well and good, but it''s well known that the wages a club pays usually correlates well to league position, which will be part of the reason were amongst the early favourites to go down. Of course, we''ve proved that wrong in the last 2 seasons, as have Swansea, so there''s always exceptions to the rule.
17.
Martinez did keep Wigan (smallest club in the division) up for three years in a row. Usually after losing his best players each summer. He also gave Wigan the greatest day in their history when they won the FA Cup. Something no manager has ever achieved at NCFC. I will be very pleased if Hughton keeps us up for at least three seasons.
Why do you think it takes the looming threat of relegation to motivate the players? You''ve got to question a manager if his players seemingly can''t perform well until March.
18. In addition to another striker a defensive midfielder who can pass would be a priority for me. We give possession away far too easily. As good as Johnson has been over the past year, his distribution has been poor. We also need (IMO) a left winger, an attacking midfielder (assuming Butterfield doesn''t come through to challenge Wes for his place), and a couple of defenders to bulk up the squad (LB & CB)
19.
The long-term solution will be a new stadium.
Oh christ.Here we go.
20. "I think we can forget any idea of stadium expansion as there is there is not the demand for the extra seats. " If there''s no demand, why are are a couple of thousand people on the waiting list for a season ticket? Wouldn''t that pretty much fill a corner stand? That''s not me saying it would be a good idea financially. I just don''t agree that hat demand isn''t there. How many of those on the waiting list are the ones currently buying casual tickets I wonder?
21. "I think there are serious questions over Martinez. Nice football but can he organise a defence? Wigan kept only five clean sheets, as against our 10." This has always been my problem with Martinez. We all know that paying low wages means you''re likely to struggle in the league. Fine. The players he could get in we''re always likely to be relatively limited in their ability, but they were a complete shambles at the back this season. A good manager should at least be able to organise a defence properly, even if the limitations of his players are eventually shown up. Norwich are a good example. This season when we didn''t have the ball you could see the structure of the team. A solid back 4, pushing out together when needed. When a player found himself out of position you could see him realise this and sprint to get back in line with the rest of his back 4 (Russ usually, from where I sit was the most noticeable). This all comes from coaching, and it was really obvious to me that the Wigan defence didn''t have a clue what they were supposed to be doing.
22. "Should Wigan have sacked Martinez anytime over the last couple of years, and was Man City right to sack Mancini for finishing second in the Prem?" Should they have sacked him? I don''t really see why. He was keeping them in the league, which would have been his main target every year. Other boards might have lost their bottle/patience and given someone else a try, but I''d guess that Whelan understood the limitations he was working under and didn''t see the need to get rid. Mancini...I can kind of see why he''s gone. I don''t like the impatience that clubs seem to have, but it wasn''t just finishing 2nd in the league. It was probably more to do with his disastrous champions league campaign. If the board don''t see him as capable of fulfilling their main aims then it''s no surprise he''s gone.
