1. Well Kane''s stay at Norwich is over. Sadly for him it hasn''t been a successful stay. A couple of bad misses, a long injury and then subbed at half time against non-league opposition. Not sure what the future holds for him. Probably the Championship and then League 1.
 2.
So McVeigh, Forbes, Butler and Mr Sainty and several callers to CC seem to suggest that today is a one off, prem safety is a must and we are better off out of the cup. That is 8 games now without a win, a complete and utter debacle in the last 3 games, and we cannot buy a win and certainly do not look like a side capable of gaining enough points to stay up. FFS we couldn''t score against a conference defence! Hughton suggests Luton came with a game plan, and cwe knew it would be tough blah blah blah - if he cannot pick a team and motivate them enough to take a team like Luton, then he is in he wrong job!
They''re just looking for any positives to take from this utter abject result. That''s the way of the professional sportsmen as they live off their confidence and belief in themselves. That''s fair enough.   But Hughton''s excuses are an utter joke. "Luton came here with a plan.... Blah blah blah". What was our plan you muppet? You didn''t have one did you because you don''t do attack.
 3.
Something is going to happen as Lee Camp hasn''t been announced as signed yet. So they must be lining someone else up. RVW?
RVW? Are we lining up Rick Van Winkle as our new striker? He can''t do worse than Harry Kane
 4.
I''m annoyed at losing, but at the same time not that bothered. It is just another in the long line of poor cup exits over recent seasons and, for me, not really any different to any of those - the (level of) opposition is largely irrelevant. The players should certainly take a long look at themselves as even with reserves playing they should have more than enough for lower league sides; the manager is not to blame.
Do you know what''s weird? As soon as I saw our starting line up, alarm bells were ringing. The number of times a second string team, from any top flight team, has lined up against lower league opposition, a shock more often than not happens. It says something about the attitude of reserve players in cup games - they never seem to step up for it. I blame Alex Ferguson. He started fielding weaker teams, but with good reason - champions league. Then for some bizarre reason, every other manager decided they should field weaker teams in the cup games (because they had European games... Oh I mean, a league game next week.... Like the old days....) and then found they lost or got a bad result. Managers should just play their first team every match like the old days. Why they don''t is beyond me. Injuries? Didn''t stop them 20 years ago. Why now?
 5.   Exactly. Gingerpele seems to be under the impression we just went out of the cup to a mid table Championship team. We did not. We just went out at home to a non-league team. The first time a top flight team has done this in over a quarter of a century. We are a laughing stock. This is the equivalent to losing 7-1 at home to Colchester. Abject and unforgivable.
 6.
Why would they be? He constantly tells the media are players are not good enough!
Exactly. We lost 5-1 to Fulham and he says our squad is effectively crap. The man was out of his depth from day 1. And it shows now.   Why on earth didn''t we go for the jugular today? We were playing a non-league team FFS.   Lambert plays non-league Paulton. What happens? We win 7-0.   Dave Stringer''s Norwich play Sutton Utd. What happens? We win 8-0.   This team under Hughton are a joke.
 7. You need to understand the perspective. Today''s result has just been described as the biggest cup shock in over a quarter of a century. If Hughton keeps his job he will have been very lucky.   Had we just gone out of the cup at home say to Hull, then fair enough. It''s not a massive shock. But this is on a par with losing 7-1 to Colchester for me. Heads must roll.
 8.
we need him out tonight if not we will not have any time to get players in to keep us up for the remainder of this window.
The Wolves manager was sacked after losing to Luton. Their chairman thought it was unacceptable, and I agree with him. If I was chairman, Hughton would be toast tonight.
 9. Just as Lambert kicked out the dross who played V Colchester under Gunn, the next manager needs to kick out the dross who played V Luton. Unacceptable. You either play with heart, or you''re an overpaid tosser. We seem to have too many of the latter in our ranks these days.
 10. Bryan Gunn was sacked after our defeat to Colchester 7-1. This is worse in my opinion. Absolutely pathetic. We are a laughing stock.
 11. Today''s result is worse than losing to Colchester at home 7-1.   We are the first top flight team to lose at HOME to a conference side in over 25 years. This is an abysmal performance.   The second string on the pitch today are an utter disgrace. The exit door should be shown to some of them, just like Lambert showed the exit door to those useless over paid tossers who played V Colchester.   Chris Hughton is on borrowed time. Nigle Adkins is looking for a job and has back to back promitions on his CV. What exactly does Hughton have on his CV which matches that?
 12. Absolutely fecking disgraceful. The first top flight team to lose to a non-league team since 1987. This result is worse than losing 7-1 at home Colchester. Absolutely disgraceful. Some of the second string who played today need to have a long hard look in the mirror at themselves after this because it is unacceptable. Some of them should have no future at Carrow Road. Unacceptable.
 13. I was sceptical of Chris Hughton after a shocking pre-season and dreadful start to the season. I did advocate giving him 10 -12 games, and he has prove himself during this period. Results and performances have improved impressively. If we keep this up, we''ll finish comfortably in midtable. But there''s a lot of hard work ahead of us. But yes, Mr Hughton has won the fan base over. It''s bought him the season. Do us proud Chris.
 14. How long do you give Hughton? I give him 5 more games to sort things out and get some results. Now 19th, with the worst goal difference in the division.
 15. For me he has to get 9 points from the next 5 games. Failing that, get shot ASAP. (12 points from the first 12 games is not too a demanding target is it not and at least gives him a fair crack?) All the evidence so far suggests he won''t succeed. .
 16.

You would hope that a new Manager would come in, note and comment that not an awful lot needed changing around, that the system/formation was working well and it was a case of tinkering here and there and building on what we had.   If CH has come in with the intention or instruction of dismantling the last three successful years and starting again, new system and philosophy and new players bought in with the intention of implementing it then thats a cause for concern.   We had a way of playing last season. It worked for us. The players were familiar and comfortable with it, it meant we caused lots of chances and scored goals. Isn''t it easier to get 3,4,5, whatever players in and teach them the system that works, or has been working, rather than teach 25 odd players a new one-with some of them, no doubt thinking, "but last season worked for me, for the team, why change it?"   Is the diamond now a totally busted flush? Have we dispensed with it altogther, is it history? If it is-well, sorry, but why? I can''t accept the "other teams have worked us out" notion-OK, they might know how you play but if you play it well, its effective and it works, it doesn''t matter that they know its how you play, if you perform, it''ll still be effective regardless. You could say RVP is "sussed out" -before a game with Man Utd, yep, no worries-"RVP breaks into the penalty area, usually from wide positions, he''s fast and turns quickly, keep close to him" -there, thats RVP "worked out".Maybe, but doesn''t stop him being quality and being effective no matter how well you know he is going to play.   We could have put an effective side out there today based on that diamond formation-would it had done a better job than todays shambles? Hell yes. Ruddy  Martin-Bennett-Ward-Tierney  Johnson  Pilkington-Bennett  Hoolahan  Holt-Jackson. And all last seasons players. Maybe Fox for Johnson if he was fit. The players would have known how to play it, been comfortable in their roles and we would have had a lot more attacking threat. But no, it seems that was Lambert and Lambert has gone and no matter how well it did for you last season and how effectively you played it and felt comfortable with it, its out the window now boys, its a packed midfield and, rather than perpetuating a system which had its moments last time around, we''re going to go with one that patently and often didn''t work-pack the midfield and stick Holt in attack on its own. Hughton famously took the videos on holiday with him, he saw what worked and seemingly threw it away and would have seen what didn''t and has embraced it.   Yes of course the diamond formation had its flaws-but it and the 4-4-2 variation of it saw us finish in 12th place last season. So why change everything around-the phrase over the Summer was "evolution not revolution", well sorry, it seems as if it is anything but that.Pre-season and today has seen a change in formation and a change in the way we play and we got what we deserved today for trying to be clever and doing it another way when there seemed little need or point in doing so-indeed, the only point seems to be one of focusing more on change for the sake of erasing the efforts of the previous management rather than for it improving the team.   If he sets out a 4-5-1 or 4-4-1-1 at home to QPR on Saturday I will be absolutely staggered. Remember Newcastle at home? 4-4-2, wingers, crosses, two front men-pace and power, we blew them away and so what if we let in 2 at home, we scored 4. What are we going to do next week, play for a 0-0 and be happy we kept our shape and a clean sheet? Oh yeah, great, woo-hoo.   I agree with the OP as well. I''m not advocating the removal of the Manager-but if we lose, I want to see us lose by having a go and focus on giving the opposition a game not inviting them to demonstrate theirs to us-which we did today, and how...
Absolutely fantastic post and reaffirms my belief that you are the best poster on this board by a mile. Well put.   Evolution not revolution. Love it.
Absolutely top class post Old Shuck.   You have articulated perfectly everything I have been trying to say all evening. I hope the likes of Monty are able to comprehend what you say so elequently.
 17.
I honestly can''t see anything better than Norwich 0 - 3 QPR next week
Oh I''d be much more optimistic. It will 0-0. Why? QPR shipped 5 today, Mark Hughes will make sure they''ll be tight as a minimum. And Hughton will think our players are too technically inferior and play all defensive so we won''t be able to break QPR down.
 18.
Good, common sense post[Y]I do wonder how we got away with our barnstorming tactics last year though, we did ship a hell of a lot of goals. So I can totally understand why he needs to tighten things up a bit.It clearly needs some tinkering though.
If we got away with barnstorming tactics last year, why can''t we this year?   We finished third in the Premiership, once, very long ago. And did you know, we finished 3rd with a negative goal difference too.   So who cares if we ship a lot of goals. If it means we win more than our fair share.   If we turn up playing 4-5-1 every week we''ll lose 1-0, 2-0, and occasionaly 5-0 and sometimes we''ll draw 1-1, but ultimately we''ll go down meekly.
 19.
Just to add... I am not a fan having a rant or anything like that. My opinion is formed from some inside info and experience (sorry, I can''t go into details). I also used to do some scouting for more than a decade and I had a very good track record doing it.It might not feel like it at the moment, but the thrashing today could actually be a good thing because it will take that sort of thing before the mindset of certain people at the club will be changed, and it is therefore better that it happens now rather than drag on for months until later in the season. What happens between now and the end of the transfer window will go a long way towards deciding how the season will pan-out.
Thanks for your post Tom. Very interesting.   I''d like to ask your opinion regarding the current management team: If we cannot buy the new players you advocate that we desperately need to avoid the drop, can the new management keep us up with this squad? And if they cannot, what did Lambert do that they can''t?
 20.
I am frankly embarrassed to be associated with some posters on here.I cringe, knowing fans of other teams will be reading this forum and laughing their fucking heads off.
Sometimes I just have to shake my head at some posters. How long have you supported Norwich? Take that experience you''ve accumulated. Is this is not something to be worried about? Have we not seen something like this before? Think Worthington 2004-05. That ended very badly. Or are you someone who just instinctively likes to avoid the empirical evidence in front of them. A shocking pre-season. Yes, I was willing to forgive that, we''ve had shocking pre-seasons before and done very well. Do you remember 1988-89? I do - we finished 4th and an FA cup semi-final all after a terrible pre-season. However, the fact Hughton did nothing to rectify this shocking preseason with zero attacking threat and instead goes into the season defensively and we get annihalated  by one of the average Prem teams. None of this worries you? Seriously? Today has to be a new record for me - the worst ever result by a new manager for Norwich in their first game surely? It''d be interesting to see the record books if this is the worst result ever by a new manager. That''d be telling. It probably isn''t. But it''s got to be up there. I am not advocating an immediate sacking. All I''m saying is that, as a fan with 20 years experience of following Norwich, and having seen good teams and poor teams over that time, and good and poor managers, I can see when the alarm bell should be ringing. This is a shocking start. Gunn went after such a start. The right decision. I wouldn''t advocate an immediate sacking. I was willing to give him 12 games until I heard his post match interview, which was very poor in my opinion. I sat through the same drivel with Worthington in 2004-05 and we went down. I see no different with Hughton. I''ll give him time to prove me wrong, and I hope you''re right and I''m wrong. But the omens do not look good.
 21.
well didnt you just know it!! after a horrid result today we get the relegated already, sack Hughton etc calls and posts!! Jeez, its ONE game people!!! Remember what happened THREE seasons ago after we got humped on the first day!!! I know we changed the manager after that game but its not the right thing to do with hughton!! He will have learnt all about what a job he has today, more than in the friendlies!! If we are struggling after 8 games then we need to worry!!!
For me he has 6 games to show he has learnt from today''s appalling display. If performances don''t improve, and if we don''t get some decent results, I would not hesitate to sack him after game 6. All the omens did not look good going into this match. A woeful pre-season where scoring goals looked impossible. Cue game 1, a defensive line up and I thought I was back in 2004-05 with Worthington wondering if we''ll go the whole season without winning an away league game again. Because that''s what will happen if Hughton carries on lining the team up like he did today. Not impressed thus far. Not impressed at all.
 22. That is a shocking post match interview. Couple that with the performance and tactics and we''re heading straight back to the Championship under this muppet. I was willing to give him 12 games. I''m revising that to 6 after that clueless post match summary.
 23. Hughton really said that? Oh christ,we are in big big trouble. If he thinks that about Fulham, then he''ll think that about every team in the division bar Reading , Southampton and QPR. Dear oh dear me. He sounds clueless. He really is Worthington mark II. Championship here we come.
 24. One of the main differences between today''s line up and what Lambert would''ve done is that under Lambert when we played one up top on their own away from home, he went for the more mobile Morison and left Holt on the bench. Maybe Hughton will now consider the wisdom of that decision, and only use Holt when we play two up top?
 25.
I said the same. Worst debut I have ever seen. He can of get better though lol
Turner had a worse debut than Theocliterios against Colchester? Christ he must''ve been appalling.
