  1. Hi  dont know you are but im going from newport Just rang the ticket office in swansea they said i can get some 1 hour before the game
  2. Great post wiz (never thought id write that) A minority sport has infact already taken the shine off my love of football. as an excile I didnt get to see my beloved Norwich much however i did atend as many away games as possible This has dwindled over the last 3-4 years when my 8 yr old stepson decided he wanted to take up gymnastics. Yes Gymnastics!!!! I am now totaly in love with a sport that i always sneered my nose up at The dedication that these sportsmen/ women have to have is unbelivable, To give you an example of gymnastics at the age of 8 he was late (most start around 6) He trains 5 days a week doing around 18 hours a week, He has a 60 mile return trip to get to the gym, If he was to miss a week then his fitness levels drop and it needs a week to recoperate them, to get to the top of the sport he has to excel on 6 different apparatus which require different skills, If in competition he may get away with 1 mistake but not 2, If he was to get a serious injury witch is not unlikely with what they do. at his age 6-12 months out would almost certainly end any chance of getting to the top as he would be that many months behind in ongoing development, IF! he becames one of the top six in the country his passion might become self funding (at senior age), IF! he becomes top 20 in the world he might make a living, IF! he wins an olympic medal he might make a lot of money Bloody big ifssssssssss lol

Everything I admire in sportsmen and sports-woman...........Dedication.....Total oyality to the the team and fans.....Honour first, money second........always striving for your personel best.....skill and sheer bloody hard work! All plainly evident in our superb Team GB and its wonderful Olympic triumphs. The trouble is its totally killed, stone cold dead, my love of football, with its spin, dishonesty, and money grabbing philosophy. Long may I never recover!. Adapted from my carrowroad.net post Wiz,  I agree with everything you say about football and right up until Saturday I was completely bowled over by our Olympian endevours. Then I read an article pointing out that far from meritocracy and high ideals the Olympic games is a rich man''s (and rich woman''s) game. Eaton College approx 5 medals, the whole of Africa, something like 3. (Up until Saturday morning) Apparently 57% of Team GB  (yuk, shoot the marketing man) went to Public school. Not that the rich shouldn''t be able to play of course but it costs a bit for a horse or a yacht to sail. I admire their dedication and willingness to sacrifice everything in pursuit, without the promise of money at the end of it. Slightly easier when you already have money.     Chrisr You make some good points many of team gb would never have been there without wealthy parents However there are many there thats parents have struggled to give their children this opportunity just ask louis smiths mum (a single mother from peterborough)who in his medal winning interview genuinely replied when asked if he was going on holiday, said he was going to great Yarmouth with his mates!
  4. badger madonna is at the millenium saterday night there are no hotels in cardiff or newport unless you stay at the celtic manor about £200 a room (fab hotel though) Best bet is Bristol about 45 mins to the centre of bristol from cardiff and the m4 is probably the best way at the weekend

  19. Either of the two reasons u suggest , im not suggesting for one moment that hes going to but as a norwich boy who once played for norwich boys he must have some sort of interest in the club, and if you think that you cant make money from a football club then i think you are being very short sited, the premier has only just scratched the surface in becoming a global brand. When i was in florida last year Chelsea v Norwich cup game was being shown live on a pay channel, when in mexico there was repeats of premier games every evening on the sports channels, The game is going to get much much bigger in the next 10 -15 years. Especially with the emergance of China .   We will be soon saying "well i can remember when they were only on 50 k a week" Manderics thinks he can make money from a smaller club, the proposed deal at birmingham would have given the golds a healthy profit, The guy up the road aint in it for the fun they just need to get to the promised land, stay there and someone will come along
