1. Leeds to win a comfortable 2-0. We will get outplayed in central midfield because we don''t have one, with Earnie getting bored of receiving no service and dreaming of January. Usual bull from Worthy post-match - ''positive signs, hard-work ethic'' etc. What will Neil Adams say?
2. If this list was compiled at the end of the coming season, it would be very likely none of the mentioned players would be in the list. Green and Earnshaw will be gone by January, ruling them out. Safri doesn''t play enough games due to injury and religion, so he''s out of the running aswell. That leaves Hucks, who would walk it if he played like he did three years ago. But this is now, so er... no. Unfortunately. If my money had to go on any City player, then it would be Lee Croft. Young, hungry (excluding pies) and something to prove, he could be the surprise package.
3. The Sutton ''Pay-as-you-Play'' deal is a no lose situation. This negates Worthingtons fears of a potential injury occuring, but our board, i.e Delia doesn''t want to know. She would rather build a chapel. Great. Just great...
4. Maybe Delia won''t sanction the return of Sutton as he isn''t a Catholic.
5. I don''t think the fans would stand for that. This would be a massive cop-out from a board that continually fails to make the correct decisions. It should be noted that when Hunter joined he explained that he was more of a ''behind the scenes'' man. Would he want the job anyway?
6. I find it deeply disturbing that Delia would like to build a chapel at Carrow Road - religion has nothing to do with Norwich City Football Club - if she wants to pursue this crazy idea then she should sell her shares and build it somewhere else. A building of myth is not in the interest of NCFC.
7. There has been talk of a statue on the ''deal ground'' close to Carrow Road. What a sight it would be when coming into Norwich by train, to see a giant size monument of Robert Chase...
8. A real campaign to bring back Chase would be hilarious! Mugs, Scarfs, Car Stickers and a ''Warhol'' style tee shirt of assorted colours. Maybe we should create ''Chase-In'' riots?
9. I don''t believe Worthy thought he would need a ''Plan C''!. He expected more from the board, but Delia is holding back. I''m sure if he knew he had so little to spend he may of trawled around the lower leagues earlier on - His support from the board is now in limited form. The next few weeks will be very interesting, especially if NO purchases are made...
10. I don''t see the point of holding on to Green once he is fit, as he doesn''t want to play for us anymore. Should be sold as soon as we get a decent offer, but I wouldn''t hold out for silly money because nobody will pay it. He''s had two poor-ish seasons and his contract runs out at the end of the season, so I would say his stock value is £1M maximum, but he could easily go for £500/750K with sell-on clauses. Could be a very good buy with the right coaching - his body language was awful last year, especially after the closing of the transfer window. I wish him all the best, but he has been around too long, and as result both Green and NCFC have suffered. A full season of Gallacher will be a breath of fresh air.
11. I think the maximum Worthy has to play with is £1M - which means once signing on fees etc. are taken into consideration for the sale of Howard, we couldn''t afford him. I''m not too disappointed by ''missing-out'' on Howard, but it shows things in a broader context. Worthy has a token budget - no more. If there are no signings, the board can blame Worthy, likewise the board can be blamed for offering derisory funds of which there is little chance of getting a quality player. A poor self-inflicted situation.
12. I have posted on here several times about my annoyance with the local press as regards to Carrow Road. There is no investigative journalism when it comes to these matters, when there is ample reasons to do so. This is deeply frustrating. In short, for unclear reasons, Archant doesn''t want to know.
13. It would appear that the board are delibrately witholding funds from Worthington, in light of his previous poor signings and that they may need to hold some funds back to pay him off. My guess he may have an overall spending budget as little as £750k - £1M, so I can sympathise with Worthy on this, despite the fact I''ve wanted him gone for what seems like a lifetime. I will reiterate - If the board doesn''t trust Worthy with their money, then they should sack him. He is not daft enough to walk, so the fudge between board, management and fans continues.
14. Worthy''s hair reminds me of my old Geography teacher - we believed his hair was actually stuck down. It never ever grew, it just always remained the same! Maybe someone could post a ''bald Worthy'' on the message board? If Archant could be so kind...
15. No signings sends out a disturbing message. The players themselves, let alone the fans must find it odd that the club haven''t bought anyone. Doesn''t exactly fill the players with confidence that we''re a club ''on the move''. If the board (i.e Delia) doesn''t trust Worthington with the cash then they should get rid of him! But she won''t... Delia is probably holding back some funds after last seasons debacle, so giving him (very) limited resources to work with - but Worthless won''t walk because of the cash he would forfeit - he''s not that daft. All in all not a great state of affairs.
16. Would be interesting to see what he could do for a League One club. He''s only been a bit part player here, though playing him in his proper position would help for a start. However good or bad he is, I''d rather keep him in the squad than Peter Thorne!
17. No. I sometimes wonder where some fans have been for the last two years? Have they been in a coma? Carrow Road is the fast becoming the new House of Lords - without the excitement...
18. I am rather concerned about Chris Lakey and his fellow colleagues on their journalism with regards to NCFC. I wouldn''t be atall surprised if the upper echelons of NCFC have had a word with Archant to the lines of ''It would be advantageous if you would lay off Nigel in the coming season etc.'' I have no proof of this of course, but the stories appear as if this IS the case. You wouldn''t get this whitewash in The Birmingham Post, so why here?
19. I just wish the press were asking a few more questions about this - i.e Are there really any funds? Are the board holding back cash if Worthy fails etc. etc. For reasons I don''t know, there has been no critical analysis from the local media about this very strange state of affairs. What are they afraid of? If we don''t sign anyone before the season starts, then it confirms that all is not well at Carrow Road.
20. With 4-5-1, my fear is that Earnshaw may become isolated in some games - very similar to Michael Owen in that respect. We will probably conceed fewer goals, but I can''t see us scoring many more than last season. This formation basicially states we haven''t got the quality in the squad ( or the management ) at present to play 4-4-2. Hoofball will be around for a while yet, but I don''t expect to see as much of it. Gallacher prefers to roll it out instead of Rob ''get me out of here'' Green''s pointless punts to Earnie, so this should benefit the team as a whole. We shall see...
21. Managers who overachieve with what they have got, though they are rather thin on the ground, such as Mike Newell or Phil Parkinson. I wish the club had made an effort to bring either of these two in the summer, especially as Parkinson did leave for Hull - the dark horses for next season. Better to have a good manager with no budget than a poor manager with some budget - even though Worthless seems to have none right now! It is difficult to get managers to come to Norwich as it seems to be viewed as an unambitious club- something many would agree with right now. I''m not much of a fan of ''washed-up'' managers either, but would they do any worse than Worthington...? I just hope at the very least the club are looking for an alternative for Worthington, in the likely event of things not working out this season. That in itself would give me hope.
22.
Komakino, I am willing to give Worthington a chance for the following reasons: He''s here now, so we should try to get behind the team. Creating a bad atmosphere to play in won''t help any of the players. Alternatives. And I mean REAL alternatives. There aren''t many that I would want that are currently available. It will take at least a year for the "new guy" to rebuild the team. Our best chance of making a difference this season is by letting Worthington pursue his ideas into the new season. "Where were you when we were s**t??" as the terraces used to sing. I can remember sooooo many worse players taking the field on the hallowed turf than we have now. All in all, not reasons why I love NW, because I don''t. Just logical reasons I can see for getting behind the whole team for the new season.
Mook, you''re more of an optimist than I''ll ever be! If Worthington is the best option this club has got then it shows what a desparate state this it is in. Worthless is only here because the club can''t afford to bin him, not because of his managerial prowess. We haven''t spent a bean so far, so the £1M it would take to replace him just isn''t there. One thing puzzles me - why do you think it would take a ''new guy'' at least a year to rebuild the team? Whatever a new man would achieve, it would undoubtely be more than Worthington. I don''t recall Mike Walker needing much time when he first took over... I believe a new manager would at least get more respect than Worthington has been getting - which I''m sure everyone would agree is a step in the right direction. If a new man were in charge tomorrow, you would see more passion and commitment against Leeds for the first match of the season, as you would for the whole of last season combined. According to my source [and no I''m not going to name him!] Suggests several players have given up on Worthington, so why should the fans still support him? Is there a logic to it? It''s a hopeless case.
