1. Have to agree with much of what you say Campbell. When playing as a left winger Hucks needs to vary his game more. Too often yesterday he got to the touch line and refused to cross the ball when there were players in better positions waiting in the box. The thing is, Hucks has a great cross on him. As he showed when he put a beautiful ball from the left flank right onto Bentley''s head six yards out. As a winger he should run at the full back, but ultimately if he''s playing wide left Hucks job is to provide service for the front two. A bit more awareness from Hucks yesterday and we could have won by more. When Hucks works as a team man player we are a much better side, and I thought his defensive contribution yesterday was excellent. I never thought I''d say that!Mulryne''s ability to retain possession was a huge asset yesterday too. Ok, we know he''s not the next Ian Crook. But his one and two touch passess that moved the ball out to either flank meant Southampton were chasing us, and not the other way around.
2. stan the man - Above you have quoted Harry Redknapp as saying: "Why worthy is not playing Safri is beyond me, he was class when we played Norwich". I find this strange because Safri was not in our first team, or even on the subs bench for our 2-2 draw against Portsmouth.
3. The Danish national team coach can moan all he likes. Helveg has been poor when he has played for Norwich City in the Premiership this season. Even against Bristol Rovers he was ordinary. Where anyone got the idea that Helveg got "rave reviews" for such a performance I have no idea. They clearly were not at Carrow Rd that night.Having said that, I am surprised Worthington has not played Helveg more often. He was effectively signed as a quality replacement for Edworthy which, though now seems laughable, was Worthy''s choice. Just as Safri was to replace Holt, Doherty to replace Fleming, Bentley to replace McVeigh, and the list goes on.Maybe it would be best for all parties concerned if Helveg left in the january transfer window - for a small fee hopefully. This would at least free up wages for a more appropriate replacement for Edworthy. We can only hope that Worthy signs someone better this time ''round though.
4. You''re not going to like this, but the record for not winning a game in the Premiership is held by...Norwich. Yes, according to MoTD yesterday''s defeat means that over the end of our last Premiership season all those years ago and the beginning of this one we have become record breakers! Pretty harsh of them to bring it up I thought. I wasn''t awake enough to catch the exact numbers of games it extends to though (it was 1am after all).
5. Is there a larger technical fault with the website at the moment? When I click on the Pink''un logo at the top-left I get all sorts of strange html text (I think that''s what it is). I managed to get here via Google and using www.pinkun.co.uk instead of pinkun.com. The usual pinkun.com or new.pinkun.com route doesn''t work. Just thought you should know.
6. "Drury demonstrates why defending too deep can lead to bad results"
7. I hope Henderson does earn himself a place in the England Under21s. What harm would it do? The more experience he gains, then the better player he will become. That can only benefit city in the long run. I think it''s good that one of our young players is ambitious and aiming high. I wish him all the best in his development.
8. Normann Canary - You may wish to compare these two statements of yours: "I''m not doubting anyone elses passion... just questioning their loyalty, cos I know I wouldn''t have jeered them personally" "I wasn''t there and haven''t been to Carrow in eleven years" Hmm, you think you can question the fans'' loyalty? Fans who sat through the relegation season, unlike you. Fans who supported the club through nine long seasons in Division One, unlike you. Fans who have given the club their weekly wages in the form of season ticket purchases, shirts and shares. Get lost and support Ips****. You''re no city fan.
9. Normann Canary, you are blowing it out of proportion because you weren''t there and don''t know what happened. At the blowing of the final whistle there was a short chorus of boos. The team and the manager fully deserved it. Worthy has pretty much admitted that. Then we all filed out muttering about what a shocking performance it was. End of story. If Norwich go to Stamford Bridge and put in a battling performance against a full strength Chelsea side, but narrowly lose 1-0 then I''m sure the city team will be applauded. Just as they were when they lost 2-1 away to Man Utd. Saturday was an entirely different kettle of fish.
10. Not a lot in this really. Fleming was constantly diving in when the ball was played up to the feet of the striker he was marking. But he wasn''t winning the ball. So this left the Blackburn player with the ball at his feet, in on goal, with Charlton having to leave his man to scramble across and cover.I would have been more than happy had Charlton strangled Fleming, but sadly he just screamed abuse at him.
11. I believe it''s unfair to have a go at Henderson. He is a young inexperienced player. If he is not ready for first team premiership football then the manager and coaching staff must take the blame for playing him. He gave his best and that''s all we can ask. If he was an experienced international like Helveg then we could slag him off ''til kingdom come, but he''s not. He''s still learning. I thought McVeigh coming on as sub had a much greater influence on Blackburn equalising. When Huckerby was on the left wing he was pinning back their right back and right midfielder, always giving them something to think about. Once Hucks was moved into the middle their centre backs marked him. This allowed their fullback and winger to push on at Drury without worrying about Hucks hitting them on the counter attack on that flank. McVeigh was nowhere to be seen.
12. SPat - it''s a bit early to be drinking isn''t it?
13. "The trouble is that he [Helveg] hasn''t been given two games in a row in the same place and I think that is bad on Worthy''s part."That must have been a different Helveg I saw play against Crystal Palace then Man Utd in our opening two games then.
14. bananman - I don''t think you mocking the original poster is very helpful. You say "So we''re better than AC Milan, Inter Milan and Denmark are we?". Well Helveg is no longer good enough to play for any of those clubs sides anymore, hence we were able to sign him. But to be honest he doesn''t look good enough even for us. By comparison Edworthy - a Div One full back for most of his career - has by sheer effort and determination put him to shame. On current form Helveg, in my opinion, looks like a player who should have retired. He is slow, uncompetitive, cannot defend, and his passing is very poor. A huge shame because on paper Helveg looked like a class signing with the pedigree he has. In reality he looks like he has seen one last pay day at NCFC and grabbed it with both hands. As with Jonson, I want to be proved wrong. But we are over a quarter way through the season already and I''m still waiting.
15. As with Jonson, I really hoped Helveg would turn out to be a quality addition to our team. But from what we''ve seen of Helveg so far he looks like a player who should have either retired last summer, or dropped down to a lower standard of football. I want to say "well, he played out of position on Saturday so it''s excusable to play that badly", but it wasn''t just his dreadful passing that compromised the team. His defensive work was terrible, and if you have any doubt about that just watch Everton''s first goal as Cahill walks past him like he''s not there. Worthy looked like he was about to explode in fury in his post match interview, and I don''t blame him.
16. When he took over, Worthy was good at turning current underperforming players into 1st team regulars - McVeigh, Malky and Steeno for example. The trouble is I can''t think of a single player Worthy has signed himself who started off iffy who then became a legend. If they started crap they stayed crap. Emblen - whenever he played we lost heavily, then he got injured forever. Briggs - came on as sub and could have scored with his first touch from 6 yards! Yet missed - as defenders generally do - the rest is history. Paul Heckingbottom - just never got any better. Easton - started iffy, but looked like he might make it as a 1st team regular on our run to the play-off final. Missed that sitter at Cardiff and never really recovered. Abbey - started off unable to score (not good for a striker). Then scored a great goal, then got injured forever. Paul Crichton - ok, he was always going to be second choice. Reserve goalies are excused. Can anyone think of a player that bucks the trend?
17. I was watching the game on tv at my parents house. The match wasn''t screened live on British tv, but luckily my folks had just signed up to cable telly so we watched it live on one of the german channels. The commentary was a bit bizarre. Although it was in german, every now and then the commentator would say things in english like "kick-and-rush" or "long ball game" much to my amusement. Those were the days...
18. Wake up. Norwich still has some racist fans and they need to be dealt with. I wasn''t at the Everton FA Cup game so I can''t comment on that. But... At the Portsmouth match a bloke sitting somewhere behind me in the Jarrold Stand shouted "You black b*****d!" twice at one of the Portsmouth players. The first time I thought I''d misheard it. The second time told me I was right in what I''d heard. It was immediately followed after by another voice shouting "Shut the f*** up you racist!". Naturally as it was from several rows behind me I have no idea who it was. But it happened. As a consequence I think we should remember that there are still racist idiots amongst us. I was aged nine the last time I heard such language at Carrow Rd. So can I only hope this guy at the Portsmouth game doesn''t come back. But if he does I hope he is identified and thrown out for good.
19. Beckham should be in contention for this award. Even without hair he still looks like a former Hitler Youth member with that skin head and tattoo on the back of his neck.
20. Can anyone find any mention of the English people in this national anthem? The Scots however do get a mention. I wonder why they might boo it though? 1 God save our gracious Queen, Long live our noble Queen, God save the Queen: Send her victorious, Happy and glorious, Long to reign over us: God save the Queen. 2 O Lord, our God, arise, Scatter her enemies, And make them fall. Confound their politics, Frustrate their knavish tricks, On thee our hopes we fix: God save us all. 3 Thy choicest gifts in store, On her be pleased to pour; Long may she reign: May she defend our laws, And ever give us cause To sing with heart and voice God save the Queen 1. Although in the original lyrics, verses 4-5 are now omitted entirely - partly to reduce the length of the anthem and partly due to the ''rebellious Scots to crush'' line in verse five: 4 From every latent foe, From the assassins blow, God save the Queen! O''er her thine arm extend, For Britain''s sake defend, Our mother, prince, and friend, God save the Queen! 5 Lord grant that Marshal Wade May by thy mighty aid Victory bring. May he sedition hush, And like a torrent rush, Rebellious Scots to crush. God save the Queen! (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God_Save_the_Queen#Lyrics)
21.
I am certainly not condoning this behaviour and would always respect a 1 minute silence but without reference to specific deaths or disasters don''t you think these one-minute silence and mass mourning...
Without talking about specifics, I have to say I find this new public grief issue very strange too. As for booing national anthems, I''m sure it is done on both sides mainly to wind people up and start trouble. But personally I don''t like national anthems at all anyway, and find ours vile.
22. If an away fan sits in the home area and behaves respectfully I have no problem with them being there. On a couple of occasions in the past I have done the same. At Stockport for example - the away end had no seats or roof - and I sat chatting away to the home lot while watching a 2-2 draw on a freezing cold tuesday night. Also, at Liverpool and Everton. It''s when away fans act as if they are in the away section, and start abusing our fans and our team that winds me up. It''s disrespectful and starts trouble.I think with football currently being so popular, the fact that away supporters can sit in home seats at all upsets some fans. But it''s only in recent years that games both here and nationally sell out each week. But I wonder where those fans were five or ten years ago? The more the merrier I say. But remember, if you are new to the game and can''t get a ticket, ask yourself where were you when we were getting gates of only 12000-16000?
23.
after watching saturday i feel huckerby is a liability that in our position we dont need. i think he is a great player when he puts his mind to it but is not a totally committed team player. the reaso...
This has to be a wind-up. Anyone who has witnessed our opening 8 games knows Hucks has often been the only class player we have in attack. Put simply, if we get the ball to his feet in the opposition half then we have a chance of either scoring or creating a goal scoring opportunity. Heaven help us if Huckerby gets injured this season.
24. There is no need to panic. A win against WBA in a fortnight and we will rocket up the table. Look at the the fixture list for two weeks time: Birmingham v Man Utd Blackburn v Middlesbrough Bolton v Crystal Palace Everton v Southampton Fulham v Liverpool West Brom v Norwich Man City v Chelsea Portsmouth v Tottenham Man City are in 12th place on 8 points. Will they beat Chelsea? Doubt it. Portsmouth to beat in form Spurs? Nope. Southampton take out 3rd place Everton? Not a chance. Will Birmigham halt the Man Utd revival? Can''t see it myself. Fulham defeat Liverpool? Unlikely. Palace to beat Bolton at the Reebok? No. So we can be off the bottom at the first available opportunity. BUT, we need is to start winning. So would the real Norwich City please stand up.
25. Are you sure you were watching the same game as me?I thought he was anonymous, yet again. Just like against Palace. Just like against Man Utd.How many times did our million pound winger go past their full back? I can''t recall a single occasion. How many killer crosses? None. Shots on goal? Let''s not forget his defensive contribution. Who was that man giving the Portsmouth player all the time in the world before he blasts a swerving shot at Green that lead to the first goal? Oh yes, it''s good old Jonson.I hope he does improve, otherwise it will be a very long season.
