1.
Looking at the incoming and outgoing it is willfull blindness not to acknowledge that the club is engaged in a downgrading exercise.
ricardo, i prefer to call it downsizing rather than downgrading. We have as yet no idea of the grade the new players will give to City, and as for the lot we have gotten rid in this close season, well i appreciate you may think we have left enormous empty gaps of quality in the squad due to us losing such world infamous talents as Turner, Lafferty, Whittaker, Bassong etc etc, but really, give the new guys a chance would you, before theyve even kicked a ball in the new season as yet?As for the financial side of things, what else would the club be doing right now other than accepting the reality of where its at and what may come in the future? Im positive Delia and hubby have not and never will, forget what happened nearly a decade ago. The financial reality of football was like a razor blade then, goodness knows its even more acute these days.Ive said a few times in posts that City are downsizing but same time embarking on a set up they have never had before, they have brought in Webber. AN and nearly all his staff, along with the majority of hangers on and  "been here to long" brigade have been blown away quickly and affectively. Bravo City, now we wait and see how 11 guys in yellow and green can entertain us for a new season, nothing else matters.
2. The local media on the Newcastle end seem convinced its about all wrapped up, deal being 10 million cash up front with 2 million in performance related add ons. In light of reality, excluding the rumoured 16 million which was always that and never an official sum mentioned by the club itself, 12 million would be around what we got for Brady, and as Jacob has never played in the Prem, seems to be a decent amount in my opinion. We still have Josh, and this money im sure can be used either for team strengthening now, or maybe as a part back up fund for next season should we fail to attain promotion. Things seem to have reached a tipping point and looks like going thru. 8 million to me always seemed under valued, but City holding out for more seems to have got them 4 million more.
3. 10 out, 7 in a few weeks before the season even starts, pretty remarkable for our club given whats happened the past few seasons. We seem to be pretty close to whats needed, barring any of our big essential guys leaving, and that concern me a little as the end of August is still 6 or 7 weeks away.Anyway, assuming we keep hold of the main guys, even allowing for Jacob to leave, im thinking mainly one striker more?..I appreciate that Watkins, Naismith etc can do the role, but really, id like to have 3 dedicated strikers, as Morris has loaned out.Think there is room to downsize a bit further even, if only Jarvis and Andreu could be shifted, perhaps also 1 of the GK''s, maybe one from McGovern or Jones. Perhaps to, room for a loan defender, maybe one adept at covering RB / LB position. All in all, it looks  nearer to what will be  our squad for the season than further away, but then whos to say, Webber has certainly lived up to his reputation for giving a squad a major overhaul, so maybe there are far more ins/ outs to follow, before September arrives.
4. Welcome Marcel. We needed two CBs and a LB, and now Webber and Farke have brought in just that. Unsure about the outgoings, the 10 that have left have all been ones im not to worried about losing, but the Olly and Jacob stories will not go away. But certainly  for the incomings, overall pleased with the signings, and at the quickness of getting them in.
5. Such a difficult one to say on the 14th of July of a close season where te club is having such a huge shake up in management personnel, playing staff and in set up and style, added to the fact that its still ongoing to. Also of note is the Championship as a whole, many other clubs are seemingly strengthening their squads with  money  flowing from new foreign owners. For what its worth right now, mid table. With a punt on Leeds and Fulham for top spots.
6. Cmon Ricardo, so we are a selling club, but get real, all 92 league clubs are selling clubs, its part of the natural cycle of things. I admire City for both the absolute necessity for cutting our cloth and completely going for a what is a total new set up in City''s history. Doing this at the same time, having to clear out so many players, and get in quite a lot of new guys, is no mean feat, it had to be done.Im not overly concerned what division we will be in next 2 or 3 seasons, if we are trying to play attractive football, thats the main thing. I would fight tooth and nail to keep what we have at our club, a local ownership, a local  loyal fanbase, a club that despite  seasons of yo-yoing which meant the financial situation living on a big dipper, we are as sound as we could possibly be.Fancy some  richbags to take over the club so we can compete with Prem. and even many Chamionship clubs in spending big money to buy big players?..in reality what does it get you right now, and even more so in the future?...answer is nothing. There is a big increase in clubs with wealthy owners, just look at  the West Midlands...Wolves, Villa, Birmingham etc..all Chinese owned...problem is...how many of todays wealthy owned clubs will succeed in doing much more than theyve done the last few seasons?..answer is very few. Top 6 in the Prem rarely change much, the rest of the Prem is ever changing, clubs go up but then go down. Have clubs with more money than us like Hull , QPR etc, had any better progress than us?..no.There are so many so called wealthy clubs now, just to many to fill the few successful positions, way things are headed will be more clubs with unsuccessful foreign owners, like the Venkys at Blackburn, or at Leeds and Cardiff, and with disgruntled fans at those clubs. Football could so easily crash badly in the near future, im happy our club is realistic and pragmatc, it could well save our bacon while others have massive problems.
7. Another new signing out of the blue, its such a breath of fresh air compared to the AN era,i recall all to well the long running sagas we went thru with the likes of Afobe, Gayle, Brady and the ridiculous events with the Fulham striker  before he went to Villa.Attacking LB..well, welcome "Jimmy", if your attacking prowess is half as good as Evertons Jimmy Husband a few decades back, we are in for a treat, just hope your defendings better than his was.Young, hungry, financially future proofed for next season, another position covered. Well done City, the teams taking shape, just need a new CB and maybe a striker now. We can and will of course, argue the merits of the team as we go thru the new season, but no denying Webber gets things done in the transfer windows, unlike the torture we often suffered in the AN era.
8. Seems Luke Edwards of the Telegraph thinks he knows some things..."Its understood Murphy is keen to on a move to Newcastle", "Rafa is demanding his boss increases the offer for Murphy...2nd bid would encourage Murphy to push to leave Carrow Road"...ok Luke we here you.Maybe this has legs still, gonna be a long haul to end of August for our young proteges. But Rafa, improve the offer substantially, make it silly money.
9. Said my main piece earlier in the topic, but just to add that with the recent events surrounding Olly and Jacob in last day or two, its now becoming clear and apparent that our new set up will fight tooth and nail to keep all the guys that we want to see here for the new season, and only silly money indeed would tempt City selling our best players. This to me makes me even more positive about the coming season, and all i can say is, so far Webber and Farke are impressing me in all they do.
10.
It is weird City1st, but I now have a bad feeling about this. Will be furious if we sell him, I think he''s absolute quality.
I to, have a bad feeling about it. If you read the Chronicle report, althou it does show the HITC source, it also says that a source told the Reading reporter, and goes on to say Olly will hold talks with Reading next few days and Japp Stam hope to get  him signed before Reading fly out to Holland next week.Nothing is 100% certain right now, all we have is who  we think is more reliable...a guy on a twitter feed claiming Webber told him its rubbish?..or a report from from the local Reading paper that seems to give quite a bit of detail? If this does go thru, it will cause  a furore, and completely undo much of the good will we have toward the new  management set up, and create much bad feeling among us fans, feelgood factor dumped in an instant. In my humble opinion,  a guy with Ollys class just cannot be replaced.
11. Hard to believe was just a few short months ago that AN finally got the boot, leaving Irvine to carry us thru till end season. Althou many here thought AN should have gone earlier, credit anyway to Delia and the board for acting, and acting in such a decisive way in getting Stuart Webber in. I shudder when i think how us fans would be feeling now if AN and Moxey were still at the helm.Ruddy, Whittaker, Bennett, Mulumbu, Bassong, Lafferty, Turner, Dorrans, Rudd, Howson...wonder how much the wage bill has shrunk with those guys gone..but that is another good consequence of the new set up, with Steve Stone and Webber acting to do what had to be done realistically, acting now to avoid what happened 8 or 9 yrs ago from happening again. Think theres still room for more trimming without touching the ones we all know we want to remain here, Jarvis and Andreu spring to mind, maybe one GK also, do we need all of Gunn, McGovern, Matthews and Jones here? Im happy to keep Klose and Naismith, get a CB, LB and a striker in and we are about set.Positive indeed, and happy to give the new set up  a good dose of patience, if nothing else, will be looking forward to finally seeing the Maddisons, Toffolos, Godfreys etc playing their part alongside the Murphys. No great expectations about league position, just keep us out of the bottom 3 please Daniel. Looks a very strong division, with many teams having new overseas owners, the Chinese takeover of the West Midlands in particular looking like a spearhead aimed at the top places. All the more reason i for one, as each season goes by, cherishes what we have and who we support. OTBC.
12. I briefly checked the Reading fans forums, perhaps a thing i shouldnt have done, but anyway, one guy there says Olly was in a hotel 2 weeks ago with his agent and Reading staff. Dont players under contract need permission to talk directly to other clubs? And anyway, if this has any credence, why has zero rumours happened before now concerning Olly? We all knew about Dorrans and Howson, they were long running sagas, but whats making this so hard to accept is that its come like a bolt out of the blue and Olly is precious to us fans, never mind to the club.Agree with sonyc, Webber or the club need to come out quickly for once and tell us  whats going on with this, fake or no.
13. Have to say up until now ive been satisfied with the guys who have left, all 7 out of contractors, plus Dorrans, Howson and Rudd, were all expendable and really not a huge necessity  as part of the nucleus of players we want to stay to form the spearhead of the new set up we have here now.But Oliveira..totally different. Olly is just an integral part of the future for this club,he is pure class, scores goals, and few players at the club are  held in such high esteem by the fans as Olly is. In fact he and Ivo are my 2 favourite players, so please NCFC, listen to us fans, you should know this anyway, leave our two Portuguese guys alone, along with the Murphys, Pritch, Maddison etc!Even the thought of this is making me angry, fake news or not.
14.
Great piece of business by the club. The price sounds about right too. Fingers crossed the sale of Howson will fund a decent new center back and left back.
Agree with this. Have to look back at last season under AN and just remember where we were then. Same squad virtually each season, to many high waged players not even playing, young guns like Maddison and Pritchard not getting enough game time, AN taking us nowhere and inevitably we failed to get promoted, which straight away out of necessity pushed the changes that badly needed doing. Dont forget also we had Moxey leave not long after his predecessor. I said long ago in January 2016 that summer 17 would be the time of great squad changes, but i did not forsee the huge change in the coaching /management dept.Because we are into the 2nd parachute season and because of the way the club is run and structured (of which i personally dont want to see change) it was absolutely essential to not just trim, but cut deep, our player wage bill. To do it in such a way as to let  many players go, and bring in younger, hungrier, more modestly waged players would ever be as easy as us armchair forum buffs think. To grab Webber, then get in Farke and his fellow coaching friends in, is a bold new approach, and so far, with 10  gone and 5 in, im staggered how well the new set up is doing. We still have a nucleus of high wage earners like Klose and Naisy here, but we have so far, kept the guys that really matter to us,the young guns, and they now have more oppurtunity of match time now that Dorrans and Howson are gone.Honestly, dont weep for any of the 10 that have left, all were expendable, im excited by whats happening, onward and upward. OTBC.
15. Indeed TIL, i am sure Farke and Webber know exactly what our club needs, CK just has no patience whatsoever. Get a CB and LB in and we are pretty much set for the season i would imagine. Not sure about the strike force, if we will go with Cam and Olly and Morris as 3rd striker. the 4th position could  be filled with any number of guys here, Watkins, Naisy, etc. While none are bone fide strikers, they along with Pritch, the Murphys, Wes etc can all get their share of goals. All in all, providing Dorrans / Howson are finalised, thats 10 major guys out and 5 in by the 1st week in July, we have not seen this kind of activity for many a season, get 2 or 3 more in the next couple of weeks and then it will be a good time for someone to post a "Where will City finish this coming season?" topic.
16. With the 7 contract enders all leaving early, and with Rudd, Dorrans and Howson on their way, that makes 10 players gone, if i recall Webber said  early that he expected 10-12 to go so hes pretty much spot on. Was also said that we had to sell before we could buy, and as thats happened to maybe we will now see 2 or 3 new faces coming in, hopefully a couple of defenders, maybe a striker, not sure about midfield. Also because we had a big roster of players, its natural to assume that come end of the window the squad will be at least 2 or 3 less than it was last season. All in all, as long as we get 2 or 3 more new faces, its pretty much what we expected, a decent shake up and a much different looking squad than weve seen for many a season.
17. Defence needed a major clearout close season, we got that early with Bassong, Bennett, Turner and Whittaker leaving. If any one of the old guard defence was going to stay, Russ was going to be the one. Yea we all know he is not one of the greatest defenders this last couple of seasons, but he is much more than that for the club in general. Overall the plusses outweigh the minuses, so well done Russ, besides, we may well need him and Naismith to add some wisdom to the much more youthful side that we seem to be expecting, just hope they and Wes can keep up with so many younger legs out there.
18. I reported on this bid yesterday in the Dorrans topic, even thou i slightly got the spelling of his name wrong. I to think there is no harm getting a young  lad like this in, a bit more defensive midfield choice is needed.
19.
Just seen we have announced a new sponsor for the back of the shirt, Bloorie; I''m a bit of a traditionalist and not mad keen on the back advertising but guess it''s all £££ in the coffers and a local company.
Kinda happy it says Bloorie.com, having to print Bloor International Enterprises would have demanded shirts of XXXL size.
20. If the reports have any credence about City making a bid for Rangers highly rated young midfielder, 18 yr old Barjonas, maybe a  swap would be an idea?..Dorrans for Barjonas, maybe with a few hundred thou thrown in either way?
21.
Surely the time has come to intern those under the closest scrutiny by the security services to free up their resource to cast the net further afield. Intern and investigate and then decide what action to take. If that requires a temporary state of emergency then so be it.
Intern them?...i would deport them and give them their freedom , strap a parachute to them, put them in a plane, then shove them out...over North Korean territory. Im sure Mr. Kim would give them a warm welcome.
22. Fulham have been imperious since the turn of the year, coming from a bit of a way behind to steam into the play offs, kind of reminds me the way City did with Alex 2 years ago. Also they remind me of how they played the last time they were  in this division and getting promoted to the Prem. They were almost unplayable at times.  I think the other 3 clubs know full well it will take a huge effort to depose Fulham from going up.
23. Russ Martin is essential, yes, essential to keep for next season, and its nothing to do with how good / bad his form has been for us. Guys, you cant count either, as more than 1 post in this topic  say we are losing 2 CB''s. Bennett, Bassong, Turner..that is 3 yea?..never mind that Turner hardly appeared this season, he was still a contracted NCFC CB. So, at a fell swoop, we have rid 3 of our 5 CBs..presumably we will only need to recruit 2 new ones as Turner''s departure could well be one of those slots where Webber meant by reducing the overall squad size. Even so, it will in my opinion, be a struggle enough to get 2 new CBs in to replace Bennett and Bassong, and we still unsure about Timms future here.Add to all that the fact Dijks is far from certain to sign up, thats a LB we will need, also maybe a RB to replace Whitts, unless Webber thinks Russ can be cover for Pinto and / or the CB positions, in which case Whitts slot is another oppurtunity for Webber to streamline the team squad size. Either way, fact is, we have already trimmed our defence  by a good  amount, and i view Russ as being essential to keep, if no more than to make sure we do have enough defenders, as its gonna be not easy to replace what we are already losing.
24. Not a fail for me, pretty much ended up at my prediction at start of season, when i said 8th to 12th place finish and 65 to 75 points, also predicted many months ago that the team finishing 6th place this season would do so with a record points total for a Champs team finishing in that place, and Fulham on 80 is indeed a new record i believe.Start of last season i had City getting relegated and on 33 points, so was just 1 point out there, also said in a post in Jan, 2016 that the summer 17 close season would be the time of upheaval and big changes for the club. Ok enough blowing my own trumpet...Seasons thoughts? The beginning had to many dreamy eyed fans expecting City to be top 6 or higher, no question, when the past couple years or more had more than warned us all  that our old, aged, fragile defence would cause us way to much upset in the goals against column. A decent enough start against mostly lower placed teams helped to keep the dreamers happy, but was not long before the old traits of our defence shone thru, and with Alex looking more bewildered with each weeks passing, we all waited for the inevitable. Finally the forced  big change, Alex gone, Irvine, in his 10 games, showing us what we can really do going forward, and now the close season, and i think, despite it all, most City fans accept the  big changes  are necessary, and already have a positive  and upbeat mood about the future of NCFC. Next few months will likely bring surprises, and come August, our team, especially at the back, is going to look mightily differnt to the past few seasons, not before time to. I for one, feel  more upbeat about the coming season than ive done for the past few seasons. OTBC.
