  1. There is definitely a better vibe although many are still reserving judgement (i haven''t heard any "Worthington''s Green and Yellow Army yet - unless others say otherwise).  There is still a long way to go but the atmosphere feels a tad better than last August. Vast improvement by the likes of Etuhu and Colin.  Croft so far looks a steal.  Promising signs that we can get better with a bit of luck, with few injuries and some inspired transfer deals (!)
  2. Ah yes, that would be the season when the Barclay was being rebuilt and when the ground capacity was much smaller.  And also the season when Chase broke his promise and removed the River End terracing a year early (and hiked up the prices).  Plus the year when the stewarding left a lot to be desired and drove many fans away. The record books show just one 12,000 crowd that season.  You''re obviously an Ipswich fan and judging from your current form I would get used to crowds that size....
  3. Mark Barham was another.  Played for England in a very strange summer tour of Australia (1983), and then weeks into the new season, did his cruciate ligaments in.  Wasn''t quite the same player again for us and never got another cap.
  4. He''s a really good player but that''s more money than we can afford.  I''m taking a real dislike to Birmingham and hope their policy of "if it moves, buy it" seriously backfires.
  5. I think Leon has made his point fair and square and i have no problem with that.  He isn''t the sort of player who will mope about on the pitch (take note Deano) and let down his team mates or fans.  The time may be right for him to go, as long as we have somebody else coming in.
  6. I ashamed to say my first game watching Norwich in the early 80''s, I wanted them to lose!!!  I was actually supporting Everton (i had relatives in Liverpool although i was born in Norfolk).  It only lasted a year though and have been City through and through since.  Stuck with them even though I lived in the Midland''s and up North for a few years (found the local supporters where i lived a nasty bunch) and then have had a season ticket at Carrow Road since I moved back in the late 90''s. My only other allegiances are Cagliari from the Italian Serie A due to Italian roots.  Also keep tabs on the Norfolk sides such as Kings Lynn, Wroxham, Diss, etc.  Love football generally and visiting grounds but have no other major soft spot for anyone.
  7. Primus is just old news now.  For me, he''s no better than Doc or Shack.  Flem is ample cover for both of them.  We are much better off concentrating on cover for Drury, cover for Croft and a big striker.
  8. For God''s sake!  Just because a few people said Robinson had a poor game doesn''t mean they are "boo boys" or that Robbo is a hate figure.  He just had a ropey match - end of story.  We can''t award 10/10 to every player every week can we?
  9. Not really fair Matt.  Yes, the Ipswich game game him a head start but that''s no guarantee of ''legend'' status.   I can remember Carl Bradshaw getting the winner at Portman Road in 1994 and Andy Johnson pulling them apart at Carrow Road in 1996.  Didn''t make them heroes for life did it? Leon was excellent in the promotion season and after a quiet start, really came into form during the latter part of the Premiership.  He played several games of that season up front on his own too.  Mackenzie and Hughes both give 100% but its the end product that matters.  Its just that Leon has delivered a lot more often than Hughes ever has. Good luck to him if and when he goes.
  10. The save against Preston in Iwan''s last home game.  It won us the game and virtually sealed the title.  Also, his save against Stoke.  The win that day set us on the road to promotion.
  11. Good luck Greeno!  Top keeper.  Not quite as good as Woods or Gunn in my book but not far off.  Hope he becomes an England regular someday.
  12. Something''s wrong with me here.  I can remember a team from 1977 within a few minutes yet struggle with teams from the past five years.  Must be showing my age...although one of the strikers proved a bit tricky.
  13. If it is true (and we''ve heard this many times before about Greeno), then it should be a decent outcome for everybody. Greeno leaves with the respect and good wishes of the fans. Charlton get a good keeper for a decent sum of money. Norwich get a reasonable fee (and perhaps some players). Greeno gets back in the Prem and perhaps the next England squad. (I''ll believe it when i see it though...)
  14. It''s a real shame cause I hoped when the stand opened that we would finally have a ''side'' stand capable of making some noise.  Some friends of mine who sit in the snakepit moved to the Jarrold for a couple of games to get an atmosphere going but got short shrift and moved back to their original seats. While I wouldn''t say that the Jarrold been totally ''prawn sandwiched'', I think for the rest of my supporting life its gonna be the Barclay or the Snakepit if you want to have a bit of a shout.
  15. For some reason, Norwich have always been a bit ropey when signing foreign players (long before Worthy - remember Drazen Muzinic anyone?).  There have been a few successes, Steeno and Svennson for example, but the bad outweigh the good.  It''s a pity because the market now is geared far more towards foreign signings but for one reason or another we can''t take advantage.
  16. Thank God we have someone like Richard Balls to speak his mind.  Okay, perhaps not everyone (including me) might agree with him all the time, but he makes his point in a constructive way and dishes out praise and criticism in equal manner.  At the end of the day, he''s a genuine fan and it makes a change to read him rather than the endless spin coming out of Carrow Road.
  17. There is no reason to even have him on the bench at the moment.  He should only be used if we have a major injury crisis in centre midfield.   He cannot play right midfield or at right back either so there is no point even considering him.
  18. Still haven''t really seen enough of Gallacher but looks promising so far.  I would be tempted to stick with him.  Think Green may need a fresh challenge and would leave with the best wishes of the fans. Interesting to see that David James wants to leave Man City.  Possible move from the mancs for Greeno by the end of August?
  19. YR, you are right.  Hunter is doing what he is employed to do and that is the difference.  We now have a coach who is coaching and a manager who is (hopefully) managing (and even wearing a suit!).  Still not sure what Doug Livermore is supposed to do but that''s something for another thread.
  20. If what Doncaster says is true then why the hell has is taken us until mid-August for the club to mention it?
  21. My neighbour is a regular down at Colney and knows Worthy and some of the lads.  According to him, Hunter is doing virtually all the training now and has brought fresh ideas into play.  Last season, the coaching was more or less all coming from Worthington.  Foley - for reasons i''m not clear about - was out of the picture and hardly involved. Not everything can be down to Hunter (and we are only TWO games into the season) but the vibes coming from the training ground are good so far.  Long may it continue.
  22. Way too early to say.  Best to wait till about ten games in and with the transfer window closed.  The championship is always a hard league to call.
  23. After the misery of last season, I just want to enjoy the moment.  Whether Worthy is here or not, I''m just thankful that tonight had a good atmosphere, good football, and some signs that things - albeit slowly - might be moving in the right direction.  Singing "We want Worthy Out" right now just looks plain daft.
  24. Gallagher 6  Didn;t have much to do.  Looked comfortable. Colin 7  Miles better.  Benefits from having a good right winger in front of him. Drury 7  Dependable as ever Shackell 6  Not troubled too often.  Solid. Doherty 6  Solid as usual.  Ditto above Robinson 6  Getting better.  Excellent run and shot in first half. Etuhu 8 Shaded it for MOTM.  Vast improvement so far on last season. Safri 7  Comfortable in the middle. Huckerby 7 Caused problems as per normal.  Set up first goal. Earnshaw 7  Busy, then faded, then scored a great goal.  Class finisher. Croft 8  A joy to see a right sided player taking on the opposition and getting good crosses in.  Can only get better. Leon, Flem, Mcveigh 6 each.  Not enougth time to assess. Overall verdict:  Deserved result and some good football.  Room for improvement (we still lack a cutting edge up front) but signs are promising.  A big striker to partner Earnie would be a huge plus.
  25. Having been in London for 3 days, I''m not so clued up to what went on at Leeds.  Judging from everything I''ve read in the papers and message boards, I would probably stick with the same team.  If anything should change then it should be Leon coming in at the expense of a midfielder (probably Robbo, although it sounds like he played well).
