Ipswich fan in peace

Recommended Posts

Ipswich fan here. Before you all start on me though, I do have a point to make about your game yesterday.

I see loads of your fans are up in arms at losing 5-0, and while that''s fair enough, clubs like us (I''m talking size here) need to be realistic.

I watched Match of the Day last night after coming in from the pub where I''d been cooling off a bit after our 1-1 draw with Blackburn. We have a (reputedly) rich owner who has basically lumbered us with the Financial Fair Play system operating in the football league. We''ve spent precisely £400k on new players in the summer and we''re the longest serving members of the Championship, seemingly destined to be perennial mid-table fodder. What gets me is seeing teams like Southampton, who were in worse financial trouble than we were back in 2002, seemingly get promotion easily. But hey that''s life

So you''ve made a bad start and you don''t have Lambert any more. I think Hughton was a good choice; he''s tactical, knows how to battle and his Newcastle team were excellent when they got promotion. I think a lot of what Pardew has now at Newcastle was put in place by Hughton.

Panic now, demand the sacking of the manager and you''ll be back at square one instantaneously. Lambert''s not coming back. You''ll be recruiting from the Nigel Pearson''s, Steve Bruce''s and Billy Davies'' of the managerial world, blokes who I personally wouldn''t trust to run a bath. Yeah, this may be your time to rejoin us in the Championship. You might not be good enough. But success comes from stability in football, and you need to be careful who or what you wish for.

A sensible post by an Ipswich supporter on a NCFC forum, I''m impressed =D But we do need to keep faith with CH, changing managers could be our downfall just like Wolves last season.

Kudos for the intelligent post, sir. We all know deep down that Chris Hughton shouldn''t be fired, most of us on here are just lashing out at the nearest something to blame. We''re scared, we''ve not been in this position for a while and we don''t want to let it slip out of our grasp as easily as Fulham looked like making it.

Aye, shame some of our ''supporters'' aren''t capable of seeing what you''re saying, as it is pretty much spot-on.

Hughton is a good manager with proven track record, but he may need a little time. People seem to think it is easy with what Lambert did but forget that he took over a decent squad in the third tier playing the likes of Wycombe (absolutely no disrespect to them).

[/quote] I think the problem is that Hughton''s trying to do too much at once. Give him time to settle down and he''ll know who his best team is. Personally, I''d have sold Holt to Villa, as he now looks disinterested. I''d have signed someone like Rhodes or Mackie, a player who can score goals regularly and who won''t rock the boat with the rest of the team financially.

If we ever do go up, Evans will bankroll us again. It''s just strange that he won''t gamble now. Ah well.

There are a few of us who don''t bother with the naked hatred, yes.

To be honest, some of our supporters can be a bit hot-headed and speak before they think. I''m sure we''ve all got ones like that though?

I just like to see a game of footy. Ipswich are the team I''ve supported since the Robson era, and it''s been through thick and (more obviously) thin since 1978. I''ve never really understood the ''tribal'' nonsense; I used to live in Holt years ago and was always having a good laugh with the Norwich supporting locals in the boozer, even when we occasionally played each other.

That said, I still get a warm glow when we beat you, as you undoubtedly do when you beat us.

Just out of interest, would you be interested in a straight swap.

We''ll keep you here, and Wiz can go to the Ipswich boards?!

There''s a lot of truth in your opening post but much of it was already on a thread started by a Norwich fan and he hasn''t received the accolades that have been coming your way. What a strange kettle of fish that is!

Still, good to see you recognise what your shiny hinvestor is actually doing to your club. Do you still prefer him to Delia? There''s many on here would back you up if you do.

Now one more thing buddy... Have you seen Bluemike lately? He seems to have disappeared and I''m worried if he''s ok....

True. However, most of us Norwich fans are still feeling toasty warm whereas that Russian heavy-duty fur coat you''re wearing must be ready to go to the dry cleaners by now.

I say listen to "The Sage of Kirkley & Pakefield". He is much misunderstood in his own land.
