It''s a funny old game is football.

85 minutes of dross where the standard on display rarely reached the dizzy heights of mediocre, followed by 5 minutes of goalmouth excitement.

Sibierski would be my pick of a rather average bunch. It was a fine goal from a driven hard cross and a nice flick through for Lita''s winner. The midfield were unable to boss it as they had against Wolves and Russell and Clinghan had difficulty finding any passing rythm. Hoolahan was average and if anything, guilty of trying to hard.

The defence was generally o.k. and I thought the Doc had a solid 60 minutes. Steph was unlucky with the penalty which looked very weak from my perspective. The Ref was way behind and had little choice but to agree the linesmans flag. I hate to join in with the critisism of Ref''s because it''s a difficult tak but this one didn''t help himself with a 90 minute whistle solo.

I continue to be disappointed with young Bertrand. Hopefully he will come out of this bad patch soon because I think he is a really good prospect. Omo was o.k. on the right and Crofty had a decent game without reaching the standard of Wednesday night. Also some nice Crosses from Bell when he came on.

In the final analysis I would say we were a bit fortunate to get 3 points and if I were a Doncaster fan I would be sick that I hadn''t got a point. Still it makes a change to get 3 points from a rather average performance.

Although he wasnt very good, Im not sure how you can say his goal was a complete fluke. Youve just said it was a mis-hit shot (which it was), so to react that quickly takes a lot of skill.

thought donny looked poorest side we''ve seen this season,,,but they worked hard to close us down, and got plenty of men behind the ball - and so they rarely threatened us, but were difficult to break down...in first 10 mins we started brightly, and their defenders looked ponderous at times, i sniffed a goal fest - but as so often the case against such teams, you need to earn the right to play and beat ''em - and this is were we fell down...donny slowed the tempo after 10mins, and we followed suit - not working hard enough, resulting in hopeful punts up field, and unforced errors - how many balls were misplaced, overhit, underhit - resulting in us giving the ball away cheaply or putting us in difficulty...thought clinkers, crofty and hooley were up for it, but some of the others going forward looked lacklustre...2nd half - we started brightly again, and kept our tempo up - but pressing donny left us vulnerable to a counter-attack, and this is how we conceded yet another soft-looking pen,,,we kept goin until the end, and when the chances came, we took''em///

Personally I thought bar the last 10 minutes it was the most boring game of football I have ever seen. Very little created, both teams playing very poor, and the referee refusing to let the game flow at all! That annoyed me a lot.

Having said that, everybody seems to think Hoolahan was awful today. I thought he battled well and played a decent first half. Anything that we did manage to create generally came through him. Yes, he filtered out second half, but I felt the amount of boo''s and stick he got was very harsh.
Same as I thought for David Bell. Yes nobody was booing David Bell coming on, but it couldn''t have helped to have that sort of reaction as he comes onto the pitch even if they wern''t aimed at him.

Become very dissapointed with Bertrand as well. He was my favourite player last season. But he seems to be a shadow of the player he was last time around. Hopeful his game will pick up, all though maybe it was because he worked better alongside Huckerby?

Had we not scored a lucky goal through Sibierski we would have won, but I''m delighted we have somehow managed to come away with 3 points.

Regardless of individual performances, which I obviously don''t know about as I did not see the match, that was a very good fight back in my book from 1-0 down with 14 minutes left.

Me too. [:)] Though I always like to look back through the match thread when I get back from home games, particularly if there has been an unexpected ''happy ending'' like yesterday. Very entertaining.

No one stood out yesterday for me, still thought Sibierski looked a bit lightweight falling over at any hint of contact and not winning much in the area, Russell and Hoolahan (2nd half) were the worst of the bunch yesterday. Lita''s goal was the one moment of class in the entire game.

As for the penalty it looked nailed on for me, Stephanovic had a yard on the attacker and should have got rid, but dallied and tried to play football before getting caught and putting his arms all over their player, when the card came out I was fully expecting red.

The Doc was the best player on the pitch today, and it was a strange decision to take him off....how Hoolahan stayed on for the entire game was an even bigger mystery

Marshall 7 - little to do

Bertrand 6 - given little protection but unwilling to go forward

Omozuzi 6 - does he feel faint if he crosses the halfway line?

Stephanovic 6 - at fault for the pen

Docherty 8 - fautless, our best defender on the day

Croft 6 - Starved of any service

Clingan 6 - not as good as normal, hindered by early booking

Russell 4 - ambled about midfield, second to every ball, fluffed an early shooting chance, looked devoid of confidence and energy

Hoolahan 5 - 7 first half good contribution, busy terrier like, 3 second half a complete passenger

Lita 7 - class finish but generally starved of service

Siberski 6 - even with a goal and an assist , but for me was poor generally and too lightweight

Subs Bell - a couple of nice crosses, Cureton little time to make an impact, Kennedy solid

Quite a pleasant stroll up to the game in fact. This week my son is away on hols so I could walk up Bracondale at my own sedate pace rather trying to keep up with my long striding son. I noticed that The White Horse was doing a roaring trade and the new Pizza Restuarant on the corner of White Horse Lane was also quite busy.

I can also report that there was no sign of the Credit Crunch in Yellows last night. I had a very nice meal and can confirm that the quality of the burgers is exellent. Hopefully my contribution to profits from ancillary operations will be ploughed back into the playing side

[/quote]i must say the newly refurbed morrisons gave all of us poor peasant diners a big lift - oh yeah, very executive and plush, just like a carra rd box no doubt!!!and their excellent fish and chips always hits the spot - with mushy peas (no artifical colours/flavours) just for a change this week - top hole sir...shame their better coffee machine was on the blink, the cup i got was barely drinkable,,,just goes to show - you can''t win ''em all...
