Your question of what is going to happen next season is the $64000 one. You have to look at the evidence to make a estimated guess. Many city fans including quite a few on here won''t face the facts. Too many say we have underachieved or that we are better that our results and league position reflects. This in my view is utter rubbish. We are what we are and we are where we are. We are a low middle table team. Our team lacks bite backbone and talent in too many place for me to believe that what we have now is good enough to do any better next term. We will add to the squad in the summer I''m sure but to what extent and to what level. Another buy of the season like Croft? let hope not or maybe another freebie bargain like Fotheringham. I see only nobodies and more journey men arriving I''m afraid. So my answer to your question would be that we will do very similar to that which we have achieved this season.

I hope and pray I''m wrong but we are not going to spend big and we are likely to loss our top striker. Imagine if we don''t replace him with somebody who can do the job. Doesn''t bare thinking about.

maybe I am just being depressed but here''s the line up I think we will get next season (not the one I WANT to see), I just can''t see us spending any money.....

Warner

Hughes Doc Shacks Dreary

Croft Safri Dickson Lappin

Martin Hucks

So I am thinking mid table ?????

I think we shall see a remarkable turn around next season in our players.

Peter Grant has the coaching/backroom staff in that he thinks he needs, and so can work over the summer on what he wants from his players.

How many of the current squad i wonder probably couldnt believe that Worthy survived last summer so possibly didnt put in as much effort during the pre-season training?

Onwards and upwards! Well - time will tell....

Much the same as this season , nothing at all to point to a promotion challenge , in fact reading Roger Munbys article it looks as if our aim is to have a better Championship standing a few years down the line .

Assuming that we get the four or five players mentioned by PG, and that they are of at least good standard, I think that we might achieve perhaps 8th. I am thinking of a season of team consolidation and building. Given the tight finanical situation, I can''t see us as serious challengers for promotion until we have had two summers under Grant. Of course, by then Hux could well have finished, and the side could look very different.Having said this, if PG could unearth two or three gems who do not cost very much, and the youngsters develop, then we could be borderline play-off in 2008.
we will be mid table mediocrity. nowhere near challenging and not in threat of relegation.  Just what our loser board want.
Our board may be losers but surely they do not wish for us to remain in the championship? What would they have to gain from that?

SHTTA - You could argue that if we stay in the Championship ad infinitum expectations are lowered, its cheaper for them in terms of running costs and with no other team to compete with in terms of "bums on seats" and a loyal fan base they will always get a decent revenue from season ticket sales, merchandise, food on match days etc. I have seen very little evidence of ambition from the board following relegation from the Prem and from a personal point of view I get the impression that the whole episode was one they would rather not repeat. I expect a few loans and cheap players in during the close season, but I would love it if I am proved absolutely wrong and the board push the boat out and back PG with hard cash in an attempt to get back into the Prem, because as we all know with the extra money available in the Prem from next season the gap between us and the relegated teams will get wider each season.

You tell me.  According to our Chairman, "a higher standing in the Championship" would be a "pleasant surprise".

I would just point you to the latest interview with norwich city chairman Roger Munby:  http://new.pinkun.com/content/ncfc/story.aspx?brand=PINKUNOnline&category=Norwich&tBrand=PinkUnOnline&tCategory=Norwich&itemid=NOED04%20May%202007%2010%3A39%3A14%3A813

What do you think now about the supposed ambition of our board.  Plain to see to all isnt it.  In fact CLuck and Smudger couldnt have written it better themselves.

Disheartening...

Next season... If by the start of September Earnshaw is still playing for us I will be amazed. I fully expect someone to come in with an offer of £3.5 Million for him. Think Sheff Utd, Wigan, Fulham or Charlton if they survive.

The question is will we spend that Earnshaw money? It''s clear that the wage bill has been trimmed, and there''s not much in the pot to buy new players for hard cash, so we''re topping the squad up with youth players, very cheap option! It''s like 1997 all over again. So I fully expect us to battle valiantly all season and finish about 16th again. Without a complete squad overhaul we''ll just not achieve anything, as it''ll be same failed players from the last two seasons again. We''ll all sit around waiting for Etuhu to become consistent, and after his one big performance think he''s turned a corner, and then he''ll go missing again. Safri will be injured half the season. Hughes will try hard. The Doc will bear hug defenders, and Brown will miss sitters. Okay, maybe that''s overly pessimistic, but the point is, these are the players we''ve had now for the last two seasons (bar Brown who Sunderland got rid off and were promptly promoted...), they''ve failed two years in a row, unless we change them, we''re going nowhere. I still can''t fathom why the Doc got another season. He''s a mid Champ defender at best. And sadly that''s where we''re content on staying.

In this day and age I rarely expect anyone apart from boxers to come out and say we will walk anything because we are the bestest etc.

I don''t think it is that much of a surprise - we have limited funds now so its back to the start. We will be relying on the spirit of the players as a team as much as their footballing ability. That means they will need the support of the fans to reach their maximum potential.

If you want big players you need loads of money - and it has been said by everyone on the board that should anyone want to come in and spend money on the team then they are welcome to do so as long as they are not some crooked dirty money buisinesman.

It isn''t pleasant writing what is often described as "negative" posts by others...but however much affection we may have for the club it does it no good whatsoever trying to pretend everything will turn out fine.  It won''t if left to it''s own devices....and we''re fast approaching the point of no return.

Love the club by all means....but we need to show it some courage. The endless "spin" has allowed the Board to hoodwink far too many for far too long.......and it''s high time something was done. No-one wants a re-run of the farcical Worthington protests....but sometimes we all have to stand up in order to defend what''s precious to us...even if it hurts.

We''re not too far removed from the debts which have set Leeds tumbling down....and another season or two under this Board could well take us there too.

As we have not paid the full fee for Earnshaw yet....and accepting that £4 million-ish will be the likely fee when he is ultimately transferred.....not much cash will flow into Grant''s hands.

Looking at his choice of player so far....I can see "more of the same" from Grant regarding journeyman signings...which at best will maintain lower half Championship level football.

Get it just a little bit wrong and we''re down.  So how serious will the £25 million debt (by then) appear...and who on earth would invest capital given this scenario?

This is where we are heading...and by the looks of it there will be 24000 paying "spectators" blindly watching it happen. The blackmailing season ticket scam appears to have worked once more for DS and Co....and as a Norfolk man with genuine affection for the hardcore City supporter...I''m genuinely sad....and more than a little angry.

chicken, what exactly do you mean by "start"?  2001?  1996? or . . .?  If the former, can we look forward to a playoff final next season?  I don''t think so . . .

Unless Grant can work some miracles in the transfer market then we are looking at mid-table at best. As ever our season will entirely depend on Mr Huckerby - if he has another decent season he will win us enough games to avoid the drop. If he gets injured we are seriously up a creek without our paddle!

A club our size and we are essntially a 1 man team. What an absolute disgrace!

This could all change with a new keeper, right back, a commanding centre half and a new centre midfielder all of sufficient quality and all free transfers!

Before you all shout at me I know we have Earnie as well but I just don''t think he is as important as Hux. For all his goals this season they have only been worth 12 points - a lot of his goals tend have come in the games we have lost i.e late consolation goals against Burnley & Plymouth. Plus with Earnie you don''t get any assists!

We will play some games,   lose less than we dont and hopefully win more than we dont,  but while that is possible it is unlikely.  We will sell a player or so and sign a few more.  We will suffer from injuries affecting the first 11 and some bizarre team selections, and stranger subs.

If we go 5 games unbeaten we will have fans looking for promotion as a certainty and equally we will have the doom mongers saying relegation is certain if we lose three on the bounce.  Both are possible but  neither likely.

If the manager gets signings he wants (not necessarily who we the fans want) and can get the team performing consistently and as a team we have an excellent chance of promotion,  if he doesnt its another season of lower middle table not quite mediocrity and the sounds of keyboards being based to oust the board, slate the manager, slag of the players and bemoan the lack of real fans (ie those that dont agree with their point of view.)

Pretty much a repeat of the last, let me think, 20 seasons or so.

Not at all, I hate it, and saw this coming 2 years ago when others just let things go.  Unfortunatly Munby''s statement shows the total lack of ambition of the boardroom many have suspected for years.  I am totally disheartened by what I heard and can see no positives for next season.

My prediction is as follows:

earnshaw will go just before the transfer window, and we won''t have time to get in the necessary replacement. we''ll struggle until january, with goals from hucks keeping us around mid-table. we''ll get some decent players in after january with the earnshaw money and start to climb the table, just missing out on a play off place to wolves.

What a stupid and utterly misguided comment...but little more than I would expect from one of the clubs'' leading apologists.

I was going to leave the forum after today....but plonkers like you with this kind of attitude make it worthwhile hanging on.... so typical are you of the gutless and cynical ovines who have infiltrated the mainstream of supporters.

Your fellow sheep will thank you for delaying my departure I''m sure.......

9 month`s ago on signings, we all know this, what we can`t control is injurys,or lack of money being available .wolves would never have had big MICK AS MANAGER ,now look at him he has solar powered pants .

we all need to put the past behind us we can moan for ever .we must look to the future possitivly and having negitive vibes are no good to nobody.if i had the money to bank rollthe club i probably would but i haven`t so we have to make do with what we have./remember we own the ground and Colney SCUMMERS ONLY HAVE NORWICH UNION tobale them out.

I was going to leave the forum after today....but plonkers like you with this kind of attitude make it worthwhile hanging on.... so typical are you of the gutless and cynical ovines who have infiltrated the mainstream of supporters.

Most predictable post of the year?

Add yourself to the plonker list Mac.  No-one else on here is so ready to jump onto the apologists bandwagon as you....principally because you clearly don''t have a standpoint of you own and have to borrow those of others in order to get noticed. Vaguely entertaining at times...but very shallow and more than a little bit embarrassing on most occasions.

Have no fear....the Cluck user name has reached it''s sell by date and I will now leave you all to "graze" in perpetuum. No longer being a paying member of what used to be a half decent football club....I consider it more honourable now to leave it to those of you who are...(plus the numerous posters who laughingly claim they are) to endure the slippery slide. There are some excellent minds on here who I hope will continue to round up the sheep after I''m gone...plus some thick skinned "realists" to see off the keyboard bullies who once stifled free opinion. (where have they all gone I wonder?)

I''ve a very hectic summer ahead with rather more pressing things to think about than NCFC 2007 style....so to my like minded associates, I wish you well with the struggle ahead.....and to my many critics, I hope you don''t end up with what you probably deserve for a club...as this would in turn affect what I call the real fans.... those who can love the club, yet still show courage enough to fight for it when called upon.

Of course this user name remains registered...so I could well return later in the year if the lunatics once more try to take over the asylum!

Thanks to the moderators too who have been very tolerant in allowing me to speak my mind largely unfettered. Admittedly it hasn''t always been popular...but it has been because I care about the club rather than those who currently claim to "own it".  As we all know however....it''s the "fans" themselves who own the spirit of the club....and without us they would have nothing but bricks, plastic and steel to covet.

"Never mind the danger"........and all that!          [Y] [:)]
