Johnny Rowe - 9 Goals This Season

Recommended Posts

I'm hoping our fans can be a bit more encouraging and forgiving to him than they have to other recent academy grads. He's got loads of talent but it is easy to forget he's only 20 and hasn't started regularly before this season so will have some frustrating moments.

Only issue I had with him yesterday is he did seem a bit.. Soft? I don't know he just seemed to flop to the floor anytime anyone breathed near him as seemed to lack any kind of real strength. Sadly seems his injury has done a number on his fitness but thankfuly he can still find the net

He's having some growing pains as I expect a young player to have, especially when coming to grips with the physical and mental demands of regular Championship football. Some of his link-up play leaves a fair bit to be desired and I do think his explosiveness over longer periods of time lets him down here and there, leading to spells without the ball where he looks rather listless.

He does look more like an inverted winger than a pure one though when carrying a goal threat like that. I'd actually say he's much more dangerous coming off a wing rather than putting crosses in. But, inconsistency of performance expected from inexperienced players aside, he's been one of the positive aspects of the season so far for me.

I think, at some point, he will play more central. The thing is, he has an eye for the goal. An ability to not only finish, but create his goals by individual play. First v Hull.

i think he will play in a forward 3 inverted winger / inside forward ,

clubs in PL have these players not wingers but not forwards / fluid formation interchanging front line ,

i think maybe a little early for him to get picked up just yet showing massive potential though so might get a cheeky bid from a PL team who will buy him for future

I can see your point but at the same time, I lost count of the number of times a Wednesday player fouled him as soon as the ball arrived.  It must get a bit tiresome and I can understand someone going over when they feel the push.  Buendia was treated the same way.

They pretty much stifled him for the first half this way, it was the 2nd half before he started to find some bits of space, he needs to learn to deal with it.

And he absolutely has that killer instinct.

Looking back, the last time I saw a player coming out of our academy into the first team with the same natural attacking talent it was Bellamy.

11 Goals now.

Talks the talk.

Walks the walk.

He just scores goals. He’s one of those players that even if he’s done basically nothing of note for 45 mins he’s still likely to get a goal if he gets a chance. Can be a bit frustrating but the goals tally speaks for itself.

If Barca call and ask for 100 million they better double it before we accept

He's one of those weird (and not very common) players who seems to do nothing most of the time and yet scores for fun.

I think he's a perfect player in a Wagner set-up where we rely on individual flashes of brilliance rather than organisation and retention of the ball. I don't think he'd suit Farkeball at all.

Yeah. You post a tweet like that, you've got to back it up. Great to see how up for it he was today

Imagine if Gino had been at left back, Sargeant up front (Barnes) and Hanley iin the defence

Not sure I agree with the bold bit. I think your point about relying on individual brilliance is more an indictment of Wagner than a reflection on any one player. Under Farke we still had moments where player quality shone through, it was just that the rest of the time we had a framework that meant we weren't searching for those moments. Maybe he wouldn't be as good in possession as Buendia was but this version of Rowe would have been the best natural winger option in Farke's 2 promotion teams.
