Especially as Preston had a player booked for time wasting ? Assume that’s gone the same way as the yellows for surrounding the ref. Mr Percentage today. Gave it in the defensive third but not in the attacking third.
Branston Pickle 4,150 Posted December 9, 2023 (edited) I wondered about this - there were many subs, delays by their keeper and the booking for timewasting. And the ref couldn’t blow for full time quick enough at 90+4 despite further time being due for more delays. That’s not to say we’d have scored in that time - it just felt one of those days. Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man 4,616 Posted December 9, 2023 I'd say this was probably the only thing the ref got wrong today. He didn't give any cheap fouls, allowed play to flow, and was consistent throughout in this approach. I thought he had a good game. But yeah, the Preston goalkeeper was wasting time from midway through the first half, and four minutes in the second half did seem rather light; I was expecting a couple more.
Pyro Pete 2,353 Posted December 9, 2023 To be honest, I really dislike these 100 minute games, now common in the Premier League. It's funny how referees continually admit how rubbish they are by introducing new rules because of their own incompetence. We don't need 100 minute games, just officials willing to book every instance. We don't need VAR, just referees who know how to do their job.

And Gibbs hauled back by the shoulder as he went forward with no free kick let alone the booking everybody expected. There were also times when we escaped what in most games would have been certain yellow cards. But back to the point, I was amazed. I believe there were 10 subs, that’s 5 minutes and the rule was supposed to stop the endless time wasting. With a player being booked, that confirms Preston were time wasting and it wasn’t just us fans being biased. I remember the first game of the season on Sky, people were being booked for taking more than a few seconds taking a throw, there were yellows everywhere. There were also 10 mins added standard.

And their keeper did it again right on 90 minutes and for 30 seconds, which wasn't added on of course. At the end they'd had a couple of clear chances and should have scored the one of them, so it's probably just as well. (Off topic I know, but that Gibbs miss... Bloody hell)

I was behind the goal directly in line with Gibbs and as he struck the ball I shot to my feet with my hands in the air … it was a certain goal, no way to miss! 1-0 thank you very much! How???????

I was gutted for Gibbs. He is a decent player - his confidence would have been boosted . At times sat in the middle of the lines looking a bit lost yesterday. He seems to have become a utility player far too early in his career.

Ref was diabolical yesterday, doesn’t take a ‘budding referee’ to work that out I made it 6 minutes injury time second half, 1 minute was about right in the first half
The Real Buh 3,765 Posted December 10, 2023 The referee yesterday had great comedic timing Refusing to let us take our millionth lacklustre corner after yet another laboured attack and just blowing the whistle for half time was pretty funny.
Ken Hairy 4,272 Posted December 10, 2023 I was quite pleased not to have to endure more than 4 extra minutes of that dross being honest 😉
Mason 47 1,924 Posted December 10, 2023 This did wind me up yesterday. Booking the keeper, sure, but how many times have you see a keeper sent off for a second yellow for time wasting? At best it's an acknowledgement of the issue but then a free pass to do it until full time. I did wonder if a 5-10 minute automatic sin bin for timewasting would sort the issue very quickly in most cases- but as with most decisions, this can be very subjective I think the outrage over 'incorrect' instances would far outweigh the gain. One thing I would get shot of is the allowance for a goalkeeper to take an easy catch then happily tumble to the floor for 10-15 seconds. Never understood that one. I disagree re the cheap fouls Potts fell over twice and bought a free kick each time, I have never laughed so much at a football match when the ref gave the first free kick.............
