Squad value (transfer market)

Recommended Posts

Amazing how Southampton have apparently got a squad 4 times the value of ours but still had a wage bill £5 million lower than ours in 2021/22.

All things considered we may be happy to lose the play off final v Leeds.

Looks a little bit like how the league table could end up.

Obviously you know why that is, but you still feel the need to attempt to criticise the club anyway.

Must be the false news society when the facts become a criticism though those squad values may not be factual.

But you're comparing the wage bills of two seasons ago to the transfer values of now, which is not an accurate comparison.

I'm sure you're intelligent enough to realise that you're deliberately misrepresenting these figures to criticise the board, but it doesn't make your point valid.

More like 1 year ago in terms of published accounts. I doubt whether Southampton have acquired that value in the past 12 months. Either way their VFM is a complete shambles. Let's hope we get them rather than Leeds in the play off final especially with the man in charge who likes to put a plaque on a wall when his team scores after 50 successive passes.

Probably not far off, even if you took value from Aarons you could probably add the difference on to Gunn, particularly based on his  performances for Scotland since being called up.

Our top 10 valued players make up nearly €75m of that total:-

I think that Sarge seems a little high perhaps(?), but then, based on what Webber said post season Omobamidele should be higher so that balances out, too.

People like to **** on our squad but we've got some gems here, and many of them, are still young - Just consider Tzolis, Omo and Gibbs are all 21 or under, and collectively they're easily worth a combined value of £12m. (That list is euros).

Probably is so many people are so down on the club and many players, and unable to differentiate between how we played and the results earnt pre and post injury crisis at the end of the season.

Bottom line is that we should be competing around the top 6.

Transfermarkt gets much of its data from boys-in-bedrooms.

An example of how wildly wrong much of it is:

Declan Rice: Transfermarkt value of £70m, Arsenal paid £105m + add-ons

Viktor Gyökeres:  Transfermarkt value of £11.2m, Coventry sold him for  £17.2m

Ben Godfrey: Transfermarkt value of £13.75m, Everton paid £23.6m

Buendia: Transfermarkt value of £2.15m, Everton paid £1.3m + add-ons

Omo, £10m, Aarons £10m, Sara £20m; hmmm, only set out a reasonable potential value of 3 players which have been regularly quoted on here and already over their valuation. I've said the accounting carrying value on the balance sheet is actually reasonable, certainly at least £50m.  Rashica should raise £6m.

Surely the actual squad value should be higher than recorded on the Balance Sheet for 2 reasons:

1. Players developed by the Club have never been subject to an incoming transfer fee and therefore are not on the Balance Sheet but will be deemed to have a value.

2. Amortisation schedules on average are likely to be prudent in nature and players will retain value to a greater extent than implied by the schedules.

This is one reason why Clubs must be worth more than on the declared Balance Sheet though Derby County apparently revalue players on their Balance Sheet according to their own estimates.

The difference in Southampton's case still seems staggering.
