Unlucky but fair play to Bairstow. He's done a great job this game.

How long have those openers been stood in the field, it might be telling? All the main Aussie fasts have bowled over thirty overs. It will tell later on if England have to bat again and with a shortish break 'til the next test then it may affect their stamina then.

That's physically. What about the psychological effect of this drubbing?

Would Foakes have hit 99*?

Who knows - the point is with him In the side we’d have far more likely been 2-1 or 3-0 ahead. Bairstow owed us these runs as a bare minimum.

Would be a huge psychological boost to grab one before tea.

Well, that was perfectly timed.😄

Odd decision there, seemed pretty much the same as Smith catching Root in the earlier test, now the roles are reversed the umpire goes with the batsman? No consistency whatsoever.

Exactly what I said to, well no-one as I'm sitting here on my own but I still said exactly that out loud...

Just for clarity, I'm not supporting either of them over the other, but simply playing devil's advocate.

I personally thought today's decision was correct, but by giving Root out earlier in the series, Smith had to go today.

I love it when Smith gets out😂

I'm claiming that one, I've been watching over an hour and then got fed up so turned it off. The missus walked in and seeing the blank screen said "has it started raining?" and I said, "Nope, I'm turning it off in the hope that it means I missed a wicket"; lo and behold just a few minutes later, bye bye Smith!

Wood is such a great bowler. If we can secure this win we've got to wrap him in cotton wool ahead of the decider.

Pretty nuts how many people were losing it after a couple of disappointing spells during the start of the series. After the last 3 days I'd say we've been the better of the two teams throughout the series up to now. Such a pity we couldn't nick the first game as we'd be on the cusp of victory by now...

Will be so disappointing if this test gets rained off from a result after such a dominant display!

People forget Bairstow won us three tests last summer with some absolutely ridiculous batting, the likes of which we’ve rarely seen before. Outrageous to suggest he should be dropped.

My football opinions are up for debate but my word I know my cricket.

He’s played three once in a career innings in the space of his last ten tests.

No, the team got deserved criticism after some very silly cricket.

This test has shown what can happen if we stay out of our own way. We've played to the conditions, not walked into obvious traps, played big shots when it was the right time and not dropped a bunch of catches.

The reason some of us were so frustrated is because we knew this was an excellent team who kept shooting themselves in the foot. I'm glad that's stopped for now.

It was an excellent knock but it wasn't even the best in this innings, let alone once in a career.

I understand and can agree with all of that (although I stand by what I’d previously said with Australia also just as guilty of really poor spells). But the following is what you also said earlier in the thread;

‘Christ. Amazing how quickly this team has been found out. We'll be lucky to win a test.’

That does not read to me like ‘we’re an excellent team just need to stop shooting ourselves in the foot’… but I’m happy to accept your most recent comments as your new and much improved opinion! 🤣

Yeah, hands up it was a heat of the moment comment. I think you'll find my comments between tests a little more level headed!

In your defense it does seem they've been found out ...

If you put 8 men on the boundary we will only score at 4 or 5 an over.

You can have two incredible knocks in one innings.

I think the answer to Bairstow or Folkes is both. Bairstow is good enough to play as a specialised batsman and is a good close fielder. And he's intensely irritating to the opposition.

Don't ask me who to leave out though!
