Would anybody else like David McNally to write a book?

Recommended Posts

Just feels like he'd have so much interesting stuff to share about a 5 year reign which saw 2 promotions and then 3 years in the Premier League.

I'm sure some stuff around his dismissal would be a bit one-sided and he'd use the opportunity to have a pop or two back at Stuart Webber, but I'd love to know the inside story of the Lambert fall-out, the Holt contract talks, what went wrong with Hughton, the Prince of Wales Road incident, the John Ruddy uppercut, the Hoolahan sh*thouse club and the time fans tried to tip his car over.

I've read some dreadful football autobiographies and I've got this annoying obsession (possibly OCD) of having to finish a book I start, even if I'm not enjoying it (sorry Hucks but yours was a struggle).

Surely if McNally laid it all out bare, which seeing as he's quit football to become a restaurateur he'd be able to do, it would sure to be an entertaining read!

Anybody else had this thought, should we lobby him on twitter?

Mentioning somebodies physical appearance isn't very pleasant is it now, bit Katie Hopkins.

You missed out the two relegations! It would have to be checked for defamation but I would happily do that.🤓 To be serious, McNally had his flaws as well as his virtues but it seems a shame and a bit of a waste to be running a restaurant rather than being involved in football. Perhaps he had enough of that life, or wanted to get back but couldn't.

Maybe McNally is happy and glad to be out of footy. Who cares? TuB, our very own Mother Theresa , of course. Maybe he should write the book then. With Katie as co author. Sorted.

Thought I'd try and turn over a new leaf.

Besides, I like carrying a bit of extra weight ensures one doesn't get blown over in a strong gale.

He did once say, on twitter, that he was thinking of writing a book. A few years have elapsed now so I've given up hope of it materialising.

As for "who cares", well me, I like reading Norwich books. Re-read Iwan's recently, struggled my way through Huckerbys (Waghorn never was a good writer), and have Jeremy Goss's lined up.

To be worthwhile, and for a sense of balance, such a book would probably need equal input from the three man parties at the time; Lambert, Bowkett and McNally. However, experience tells me that NCFC doesn’t wash its dirty laundry in public…

The restaurant is in his hometown so I do wonder whether he just wanted to return home, little known fact that McNally was a handy footballer himself and scored a lot of goals in non-league for his hometown club. Looks a trendy spot too!

In that case ( the new leaf bit) I'll back off unless i see the leaf  being re turned.  I for one am interested to see the changing of a leopards spots.  Should be entertaining. ....and possibly quite excruciatingly hilarious.

Don't laugh, but I've genuinely taken up meditation, 20 minutes before bed every night, first half an hour in the morning is spent reading (physical, paper books). There's a few on here who should try it.

Also, I'm in a happy place with Norwich City under Dean Smith. We're playing with a bit of pride and belief, we're creating chances, scoring goals. All I ever really ask for, it's all I wanted to see under Farke but never really did at this level. Being 20th doesn't bother me as long as we're seeing that.

Yes , must get myself some quake proof boots then.  His wounds will have been well licked during his stint in the naughty corner , I'll take his comments at face value, for now.

It was quite nice actually, picked up a few books from the 'to read' pile. 📚

You are indeed learning , Glasshopper. ( slightly racist trope). The path is steep and hazardous with many pitfalls along the way, you may stumble,, but we , your friends, will be around to light your path.

You really think Bowkett would contribute to a book written by McNally ?

Yeah I think it could be a fascinating read. I'd add the Gunn situation, the fallout with Colchester over Lambert and his Burnley 'wobble' as well to topics I'd love to know more about.

McNally was generally well liked by the staff, though The Stowmarket Two were 'relieved' to see him go.

I kind of get the impression that he was given too much rope with the inevitable results and burnt himself out.

His resignation that wasn't was a bizarre episode that showed that he really needed to spend a few weeks on a health farm.

David and his business partner sold their  successful Wine Bar & Restaurant very early 2021, he's no longer in the restaurant business.

Very fortunate to do so in the middle of a pandemic if you ask me as hospitality was on it's knees at that time.
