Genuine question, why are we so bad at defending corners and pose no threat from our own? This isn’t just a problem this Season. How can we be so bad at something that should be fundamentally easy to rectify? Is it lack of quality, lack of concentration, zonal marking or the fact we have too many players who are never going to win an aerial battle? I suspect it’s a combination of all, but it really does grip my sh*t that we never improve. Final point why oh why do we bring everyone back for every corner? leave Pukki or Radhita on the half way line and give the opposition something to think about!!

Perhaps it's because we are so poor at defending corners that we feel there is strength in numbers.

I get very annoyed when I see goals conceded from near post flick ons when we seem to wait for the ball instead of attacking it and allow attackers to get in front of us. Byram was guilty of this for Brentford's very important first goal but he certainly is not alone with this.

What did Chalobah have to do last night? Just turn his head. I've watched it over and over and it is unbelievable that we were like traffic cones or maybe the Chuckle brothers.

Agreed. He's about 4 yards out. Firstly i think Krul should be owning that but secondly, neither Hanley or Sargeant even jumped for it. Chalobah doesn't have to jump or even do very much at all. Its pathetic. There are too many of them in there getting in each other's way and then 3 or 4 opposition players unmarked outside the box as well ready to get the second ball.

I do think it is one of those "less is more" situations. As @Yellow Wal said above, Smith (and Farke before him) think just piling bodies in there and relying on zonal defence will do.  I'd be tempted to go one less than the opposition but still using zonal, making sure those on the periphery were marked up, leaving Krul more space to make interventions where needed.

But hey, I don't have a Pro Licence.🤷‍♂️

We just do not attack the ball well enough, zonal marking should allow our best headers of the ball to focus on clearing the ball out of the highest risk areas of the penalty area.  Whilst the smallest players makes sure their best headers of the ball do not get a clear run on the ball. Our players just do not do it well enough, not sure the mixed system we use is wrong, I just think we are not good enough at it.

It might just be an impression as no idea on the figures but I genuinely thought we had conceded just a couple of goals from corners since Smith arrived. A big improvement when it seemed to happen much more before he arrived. Until we went three at the back against Chelsea of course

We actually afforded Chalobah a 'Guard of Honour' for him to score. It was a token of our esteem for the European and World Club Champions.....

"There you go Trevoh mate, you get an unhindered free header on that.....Get in!.....Respect!".....

I do wonder if the money spunked on the Soccerbot might have been better spent on a specialised defensive coach.

Soccerbot in action at Carrow Road.

I've read somehere (apologies for no link) Smith has the person he wants lined up, but has to wait until the close season before they can join formally.

That would be a start for sure.
