The Positive Brexit Thread

Recommended Posts

Strangely the rest of the world think of The EU in a different way to Swindon and Boris, o well.

E.U. Exports Millions of Covid Vaccine Doses Despite Supply Crunch at Home

The bloc has been sparring with allies over supplies of coronavirus shots and was recently accused of vaccine protectionism. But internal documents show it has exported many doses even amid its own shortages.

BRUSSELS — The European Union exported 45 million doses of coronavirus vaccines in recent weeks to dozens of countries, even as it faced shortages at home that contributed to its vaccine rollout trailing far behind drives in the United States, Britain and Israel.

The E.U. has come under fierce criticism for “vaccine nationalism” and protectionism, which intensified last week when Italy blocked a small shipment of doses to Australia, stepping up a tug of war over badly needed shots.

But export numbers, recorded in detailed, closely held documents seen by The New York Times, show that the European Union, far from being protectionist, has in fact been a vaccine exporting powerhouse.

That’s because unlike us they manufacture huge quantities.

Anyway well done for finding something to make Brexit look good that is nothing to even do with Brexit.

America have stock piled 200 million doses why are you not mentioning that ? The U.K. have stock piled millions as we have to do second doses, I am at a loss to see what you are trying to prove, other than use vaccine ( which has nothing to do with Brexit ) to disguise what’s happening with Brexit, well done keep up the good work.

So why are they saying they will stop exports to us because they have not got enough ?

But why should it matter, you have claimed the EU did not invest in manufacture and we did so why would we need any vaccine imports and how could they supply it if they don’t have any manufacture plants.

The only reason you are talking about it is to take peoples thoughts away from Brexit, so well done for that. The EU are the 4th biggest suppliers of vaccine after India US and China, where are all our manufacturing plants you told us we invested in ?

Let me make it clear, the producers make the vaccine and are on contract to supply it to us, but the EU want to stop that to keep it for themselves

Although I am currently refusing to respond directly to SC's posts until he shows any sign of actually genuinely responding to the points raised against his misleading claims, I can't help re-posting this extremely funny quote:

"So why are they saying they will stop exports to us because they have not got enough ?"

Could you imagine the response of all those brexiteers and xenophobes (no need for a venn diagram here unless you like a solitary circle), if the UK government said "Although we don't have enough supplies of vaccines to give to our own citizens we are going to allow the export of millions to other countries". I get the feeling the Express and Mail websites would burn out under the volume of "disgusted patriots" venting their spleen.

So the contract that the EU had with them does not count, is that because you hate Europeans ?. Their disputes are being turned into a government dispute so we don’t talk about other things, their dispute is with companies like Astra Zeneca who took large amounts of upfront money, then did not deliver.

But again well done for trying to change the discussion, you told us we invested loads of money in manufacture and the EU didn’t you lied or were misled by Johnson.

Are you all ignoring him now ?. If so I will join you as his vaccine discussions have nothing to do with Brexit other than being discussed to keep Johnson in a job and make people believe Brexit was a success as The EU do not know what they are doing. If that’s the case then not sure how they managed to stitch us up with a deal that our government didn’t even understand.

The producers of the vaccine are trying to stick to their contracts we were first so they are trying to supply us first

You have been fair and honest towards him and shown a level of patience that I and others lost a long time ago. You tried hard to give him the facts with no bias but he is not in the slightest bit interested. Some are just not worth bothering with.

(Although saying that, well really bad misinformation is spread I suppose it is right to call out and make sure others know.)

You say the EU is lucky to have any vaccine? But AZ took their order and their money but didn't deliver because, and we have told you this so many times, a batch of culture failed and they could only deliver 25 % of the order.

Britain do not own the rights to the vaccine. That was owned by Oxford, who then donated it to AZ. Despite the UK Government paying millions maybe billions for development.

AZ are producing non profit until 1July or when the pandemic is over. It retains the right to do so. And retains the right to charge far more than it currently charges after the initial contract is fulfilled.

They still have the EU's money but still haven't delivered as per contract.

The EU don't really want AstraZ and are only demanding deliveries in order to reduce our supply as they are jealous of our success, and thus their constant denigration of AstraZ efficacy to sway people from taking it.  In any case they have lesser contract rights than us as it is in our contract with Astra that we get the first 100 million doses due to our upfront investment last year, and of course our much earlier order.

I think so Wbb. It's just a waste of our time putting forward all the info which refutes his claims only for him to ignore it and repeat the same lies. If he showed willing to engage in genuine debate I would reply again, but there is simply no evidence he will do that.

What an absolute load of tosh, what you refer to is America and other vaccine manufacturers that have since September been attacking the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine. America currently have 100 million doses of AZ in their fridges a vaccine that they are never likely to approve.

By the way are you jealous of the fact that around the world they are being held up as moral for sticking to their supply to the world, 45 million doses so far.
Anyway well done for bringing up something that has nothing to do with Brexit to support your argument for Brexit.
