Bill 1,788 Posted January 17, 2021 29 minutes ago, keelansgrandad said: Deluded MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, who refuses to accept Donald Trump has lost the election, has called for a military coup following his meeting at the White House, where he was seen holding notes about martial law and the Insurrection Act. Lindell, Trump's informal advisor who was a former crack addict-turned pillow company boss, appeared at the White House Friday afternoon for a brief meeting. He says that he presented new theories regarding so-called election fraud, and which he has enthusiastically backed despite there being zero evidence to back up the baseless claim. of course there is the thought that the 2016 election was won by a bit of ''jiggery pokery'' whereby Trumps 3 million less votes were somehow able to snatch a few marginal states and so he and others are convinced that they have been cheated, as somehow their previous cheating did nit work this time as the election count was far more scrutinised this time odd I know, but it certainly gives an answer to much of what has happened and is still ongoing

Bill 1,788 Posted January 18, 2021 Unfortunately you will always get the 'disturbed' who vent their anger and frustration on something they can blame their woes on - we have the same over here with brexit However it is not so much their actions alone, but what they are allowed to have in order to carry out those actions that give grave concerns. In the UK we have the 'righties' who follow Yaxley Lemon grizzle cake, and as well as appearing to be permanently pi ssed and spend a lot of their time banging their heads against the wall complaining that 'my brain hurts' We can deal with that, but allowing ANYONE to walk the streets carrying assault rifles and lord knows what else has to be sheer lunacy - never mind in such an atmosphere of higher tension. Surfer 1,547 Posted January 18, 2021 (edited) Once Trump is gone, they will still be here ... one of Trump's younger RNWJ followers : and any action against them will immediately be attacked by Fox et al as a direct affront to the First and Second Amendments of the US Constitution. Suspending Fox's broadcast license for 90 days would be a great compliment to turning off Trump's access to Facebook and Twitter etc to create a propaganda "time out" and let a national healing begin. p.s. sounds awfully similar to what the more extreme Brexit promoters would say doesn't it? Because Brexit for some was nothing to do with leaving the EU, that was just incidental to a broader vision of "us v them" Edited January 18, 2021 by Surfer
Bill 1,788 Posted January 18, 2021 just as the thickos over here supported blocking MPs from voting on laws, trying to do the same by closing Parliament - and referring to those fighting to uphold the lawful democratic process as the enemies of the people amazing what being wealthy and owning much of the media can achieve - when it comes to keeping stupid people, stupid

horsefly 4,310 Posted January 19, 2021 14 hours ago, Surfer said: The rant from Fuentes is very instructive regarding the serious problems facing US democracy. As it stands it represents a form of militant "Christian" fundamentalism. And as such, it shares much in common with other forms of fundamentalism, such as the Islamic fundamentalism of Isis and Al Qaeda. Crucially all these forms of fundamentalism agree that a liberal democratic system of governance founded on the rule of law and a free vote is antithetical to the enforcement of a set of values determined by them to be the only set of values that have legitimacy. The US public need to be made aware that this is not a dispute between different visions for America from within a shared democratic system enshrined by the American Constitution. Right wing fundamentalism is an attack on the American Constitution itself. The choice is between upholding the Constitution and the democratic project, in which the rights of the individual are protected by a system of law independent of government; or rejecting it in favour of a fundamentalist form of government, in which the legal system serves the will of the governing power. If this sounds overly dramatic just reflect upon Trump's incredulity that Republican governors and his own apointees like William Barr, the Supreme Court, and Mike Pence etc failed to disenfanchise huge numbers of the electorate (mostly black) in order to deliver him a victory. And reflect on the fact that over 100 Republican House representatives continued to object to Biden's confirmation, even after the Capitol insurrection on 6/1. No one should be fooled into thinking that the revolting malange of prejudices and hatreds that distil themselves into the formation of extreme right wing fundamentalist organisations is not a genuine threat to democracy in America. These people must not be appeased but rigoruosly pursued and held to account before the law and the American Constitution. And the remarkable principles of the Enlightenment that forged the formation of the most powerful democracy in the world need to be renewed in order that the Constitution finally realises it's aim to facilitate the right of every American to pursue life, liberty, and happiness as equal citizens of the Republic (as proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence). A Load of Squit 5,215 Posted January 19, 2021 Donalds last day. They must have had the gathering of friends and colleagues where Dons boss said a few words about how much they were going to miss him and reminding everyone about that time he did something stupid but it all worked out fine in the end. Don would've been given the big card where some pithy comments were written and an explanation that they had a whip round and managed to purchase a gift that he could remember them by. Don would then thank Mr Putin for the lovely speech and choking back the tears then thank everyone for being colleagues. Then after a brief silence everyone would shuffle off back to their desks and get on with the day as if nothing had happened.

Christoph Stiepermann 1,152 Posted January 19, 2021 Last day today isn't it? Using his remaining time in power pardoning more murderers, war criminals, billionaire tax evaders and gangsters making a complete mockery of the US justice system. Makes me laugh that his half witted, gullible fanatics consider themselves patriots by supporting a man that has such contempt and disrespect for two of the cornerstones that country was founded on, democracy and law. The best part about all this though is watching the news and laughing at his army of red faced country bumpkins absolutely losing their minds because their dear leader is being deposed.
