lappinitup 629 Posted March 14, 2016 They''ve come out with a few classics over the years but which was the best? Was it when they waved those tenners and chanted "we''re f***ing rich" when Evans took over?Or was it the "relegation countdown clock" in 2011.........http://www.ipswichstar.co.uk/news/canaries_crushed_we_launch_countdown_to_norwich_city_relegation_1_926369Or maybe it was that cringeworthy interview with Marcus Evans by Nigel Pickover..........http://www.ipswichstar.co.uk/sport/how_i_met_town_s_mystery_magnate_marcus_1_163661Then there was the intended flyover Carrow Rd trailing a sign saying "welcome back" after we were relegated only to be well and truly thwarted by the weather. Three defeats and a draw didn''t work out too well for them either.http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-suffolk-27390202Perhaps it was when Simon Clegg said "the ground, with a capacity of just over 30,000, is just one of several building blocks that convinced Evans the club have huge potential. "We''ve got a massive catchment area. There is a small club to the north of us [Norwich] that has just been relegated. But if you go west you have to go all the way to MK Dons, if you go south-west, Colchester apart, you have to go all the way to West Ham."Yep, they''ve often been left with egg on their faces, but I''m sure you can think of a few more. Crabbycanary3 994 Posted March 14, 2016 I liked the first one, and really liked the third one, oh and as for the fourth one. Oh FFS, I can''t decide. I''ll get back to you

Peanuts 150 Posted March 15, 2016 I''d not seen that Marcus Evans article before, absolute gold. I mean it would have been absurd back in 2008, but with the benefit of hindsight it''s almost beyond parody.

BroadstairsR 2,164 Posted March 15, 2016 The ritual build up of expectations at the beginning of each season usually results in disappointment to the point of embarrassment. This particular season above all.It was virtually a given, (in a TWTD poll, over 45%, no less at one time expected an automatic promotion place and most of the rest expected a play-off place,) that this was THEIR season.Where are they now? In sum, small town, backwater club with unrealistic aspirations. 15th. consecutive season in the Chumps looming, believe."BUT, what about our history?" They cry, on and on and on and on, and ................................................>Quotes of note: "Once we didn''t just walk with giants, we were one of the giants." "When we were the top team in Europe," in reference to a Fairs Cup win (or whatever) when the Champions League Cup (won by even Forest twice) didn''t exist presumably.TWTD is the cause of continuous amusement these days. The ghost of Michael Theoklitos 0 Posted March 15, 2016 Like Peanuts above, I''d never seen this Evans article. It''s amazing! No questions. Not a single quote. No insight into Ipswich, or Evans at all. The headline of the article might as well be "Reporter describes meeting a man in his office".There are so many highlights, but this one struck a chord with me;"Promotion is this season or next as far as the big M is concerned but to say his crusade is just about instant glory, or quick profits, would do the man an injustice."So going back to that headline, perhaps "Reporter describes being conned by a man in his office" would have been even better with the benefit of hindsight. Thanks to the OP. Reading this made my day!

OnTheBall 0 Posted March 15, 2016 Love that Marcus Evans piece. It tells you nothing but "Marcus Evans is a successful businessman and I met him."
OldRobert 38 Posted March 15, 2016 The Marcus Evan piece must rank as the biggest non-article/interview ever written.

Lessingham Canary 99 Posted March 15, 2016 For me it was when big Mick attempted to prove the journo wrong, and show him on his IPad that the word "gullible" did in fact exist and was after all in the dictionary..... ;-)
