Thoughts froms Millwall game...
Carra Rud replied to jed exodous's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
Jed, for the Millwall goal Tierney lost his runner - looked short of pace - and cut inside for some reason. Seeing this, Barnett ran out to prevent the cross and left an opponent free in the middle.
We were a little stretched because Holt stupidly lost the ball well in their half. Lappin was our furthest forward player with Tierney on half way which left us short at the back. Tierney would never have stopped the goal regardless of Barnett indicating him to mark up. -
Although he looks like our very own Craig Coates he''d do a decent job for us.

His positioning was good because the ball barely left the middle third! The ref would have a word with the LINESMAN beforehand to indicate to wait for his decision unless the lino sees something on the blindside of the ref. This is so frustrating when they both look at each and never make a rapid judgement.

Well done Mr Wilbraham

It was certainly a good header, but he offered absolutely nothing else. But I suppose that was enough!
You didn''t see him win any other headers, then? Did you take a nap or something?Just because he''s a League One journeyman doesn''t mean he''s incapable of playing well. He won a fair few flick-ons - not all of them found yellow shirts, admittedly, but often the other attacking players weren''t making the right runs into the channels. In my opinion he certainly made more impact than Holty tonight. A couple of times he showed neat touches, shielding the ball and shuttling it out wide to a yellow shirt. Nobody expects him to be skinning three players and lashing in 30-yard howitzers, but for what he was put on the pitch for tonight I thought he did an excellent job.
He won about 10/20% of his headers I estimate, given that he''s a ''target man'' I don''t think that''s particularly efficient.I honestly don''t think he played well and I don''t think he changed the game by any means. He was trying to flick it on when he was 15 yards from everyone else! His athleticism and ''intelligence'' weren''t superb but as I say, his contribution was what was asked of him. But one good header and controlling the ball and passing it wide does not make a good performance (in my opinion).Don''t think that I think somebody is useless because they''re not scoring wondergoals, I even though Jackson played well [;)] ! -
Still not convinced by our home form
Carra Rud replied to Brendo's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
I still stand by this. Very few times this season at home have we played very well. Again, I feel we have only truly dominated two teams at home, Ipswich and QPR. Now don''t get me wrong, I am delighted we won tonight, but we were poor, no doubt. Also (assuming Whitbread wasn''t injured), why was Ward brought in? I thought he wasn''t great at all (yeah he scored, well played), but he is in the team to defend mainly. Fox again was non influential (having said that, pretty much everyone was). Team for Burnley : RuddyMartin Barnett Whitbread Tierney CroftsLansbury LappinHoolahanHolt Martin
I thought Fox was excellent. He put in some good tackles and was good on the ball as you''d expect. Lansbury was poor for much of the game but then again he did make two contributions that won us the match. I''d give Jackson another go too, he looked lively. Feel sorry for Chris Martin this season. He deserves some more luck. -

Arsenal v Norwich 1992/1993
Carra Rud replied to Carra Rud's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
Have you got a 2-1 home win against Southampton in Feb 92? My first game at Carra Rud - the fog was so thick you could barely see the River End. I''m pretty sure Fleck got both our goals.
Yeah, that''s there. Ullathorne got a far post header at the River End, Fleck the other. Talking of fog... the Tranmere one is also here during the 1996/1997 season. Ridiculous circumstances.I''ll put another one of the mentioned ones up during the week. -
You look like one of his lot anyway!

Lansbury has to be a starter. Even though he''s not everyones favourite, perhaps Simeon upfront with Holt as he was okay against Sheffield. Although those two didn''t really work too well against Palace earlier in the season.
That''s really great, being a young''un I don''t think I''ve ever actually seen those highlights in full. Have you got Norwich 2 Newcastle 1, Dec 31 1994? My first ever game...

Could we have Beckford''s hat trick against Everton. Think it finished 4-3 Norwich in 92. Cracking game. Cheers.
I''m sure they''ll both be there somewhere. Will have a look.Ekoku''s four away to Everton in ''93 is also right up there. -
Something to enjoy which happened 20 years ago now. On the opening day of the very first Premiership season.Would quite like it to be a regular Friday feature to coincide with the Carra Rud blog. Depends how popular it is I guess, if it''s half as popular as our NCAGTH upload then we''ll be on to a winner. We''re pretty much able to source any match from 1988 so requests are more than welcome.

To be fair to her, I''m sure she''s had a lot more stick than a regulated Premiership football match! -
