  1. Based on what? Based on what I saw tonight my opinion is that VH will need a bit more time to get up to speed & be useful.
  2. Classic case of a team being unbelievably successful with a charismatic manager & no money. The disappointment has been palpable since our last failure in the PL. It won't change until people learn to manage their expectations. Which isn't going to happen.
  3. He certainly looked a bit raw, gawky even, when he came on. The Champs is not an easy league to adapt to if you're used to playing abroad; much as I don't rate Fassnacht he is at least up to speed & it was the right decision to bring him on first. VH will need time to get used to life at NCFC & I think Wagner is going about it the right way.
  4. Will he get on the pitch today? Would be great to see how he plays.
  5. Interesting appraisal of him on canaries.co.uk by sports journo Andy Brassell. Says he's a different sort of player to his dad, only interested in scoring & doesn't go looking for the ball - fox in the box type player. Says he's got excellent anticipation & movement & strength to go with it. Sounds like he'll need Sarge to do the hard work, pressing & covering the ground, which may not be helpful; hopefully he can adapt his game a bit & learn how to link up play & do a bit of pressing himself. He sounds like a classy player though, & the type who's willing to learn. We'll find out soon enough.
  6. Impossible to say how he'll do. Too many variables; some players just 'click', others don't. Time is the only measure; Idah's had enough time now to know, & we know he 'clicks' out more often than in.
  7. Can't see the obligatory meaningless video on here, do here it is. Best viewed on mute BTW
  8. So much carp on this (& other) threads. Where are Liverpool in the PL? Oh yes. Top. That's right 5 points clear in the hardest league in the world. The world. I wonder why that is? Maybe because they have many of the best players, & are coached by someone at the top of his profession? Their players are all dynamic, athletic, strong, motivated, skilful, ruthless? Perhaps that's got something to do with why they're doing so well Now we just haven't got those sorts of players - one or two might have some (but not all) of those qualities, but we are, literally, not in the same league. Given all that, what were we supposed to do? A series of dazzling long passes which would have split them apart & set up our devastating attack?? I suggest that would have soon degenerated into lumping it up the field only to watch it come hurtling back with interest. Do you really think such tactics would have served us any better? What we tried was to play football. Get some possession going, try & pull them about a bit, rely on some flashes of individual skill & maybe nick a goal. Always involved a lot of risk & never realistically going to work, but looked better than the alternatives & was, I believe, ultimately more productive. The reason it was pretty hopeless was because they swarmed us, the energy & intensity of their press meant we had no time to react, let alone think what to do. Then once they got the ball back they were like a pack of whippets. Quick, quick, quick. Their goals were, nevertheless, disappointing, the zero marking for the first goal, Kenny's rushing out to try & intercept a pass that didn't happen (he'd got others right so I forgive him), Van Dijk's free header, can't remember the other 2, but they created many chances that few teams would have been able to stop. They are simply very, very good. Could we have done any better with the players available? Probably. A bit. Would it have made any difference?? Well ... And Sainz did score the goal of the match!!! And so to Coventry ...
  9. Looks like he's off. Possibly. https://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/24076420.championship-clubs-interested-norwichs-przemyslaw-placheta/
  10. Just seen the full 90 & Idah was the only realistic option (Sara had 2 players for company & may have been offside). Idah should have taken it in his stride, the ball was played nicely in front of him. He had plenty of time & space to pick a shot. Which was likely the problem.
  11. Exactly my view. Hopefully it'll come up on Canaries tv full 90 soon & I'll be able to review it.
  12. That's utter & complete nonsense. The issue is he has his head down & doesn't often pick the best option or release the pass when he should - he tends to keep going until he gets tackled, by which time he has 2 or 3 guys closing him down. Even then he'll often wriggle & force his way through, but keeps going with his head down until he's stopped or has missed the best time to pass. Last night he was far more effective than Sainz. And if Sargent had been on the receiving end of his through ball I strongly suspect the outcome would have been a lot better.
  13. I'm fed up with this dismissal of Onel's abilities. He made a huge difference when he came on. He is twice as strong as Sainz, quicker, & has just as much ability to get past players. He won the ball at least twice when he had no right to do so, & single-handedly created a good chance for Idah. Having said all that I rate Sainz the better player overall for his positioning & ability to outfox defences; Onel is predictable in the sort of runs he makes which makes him easier for the opposition to shut out - but he's still a handful & that sheer strength & pace can terrify defenders. Last night Sainz was pretty anonymous & got outrun by defenders most of the time. He had a pretty poor game. Onel was far, far more effective when he came on.
  14. I agree, but he does get knocked off the ball too often (as do Sainz & Rowe). Although I don't want to admit it, you could make a case for Barnes for this game. Also Sarge not fully up to speed.
  15. This sounds like The Producers style of accountancy to me ...
  16. There was a period of play for 10-15 minutes in the first half when it looked like someone had flicked a switch. It was PL class stuff. If we can keep that button pressed ...
  17. He's not fully match fit though. If you compare his energy now to the games before he got injured he's well below par. But, as you say, a real handful, so hopefully he'll be unstoppable with a few more games under his belt.
  18. One of the prime functions of government I think is to realise when major industries are becoming non-viable & plan a way forward for the communities affected. Just dishing out large amounts of dole money is not a solution, but neither is top-down planning of 'job creation' . It's a tricky problem to solve, but a mixture of business incentives, useful - but not glamorous - infrastructure projects & a decent education (first step: make Katharine Birbalsingh Education Secretary!) is the best way forward I can think of. Notwithstanding just fixing all the apathy & corruption surrounding Western governments generally. Which is an even bigger problem.
  19. That was brilliant! Can't help but like Colin. Friend told me a Harry Redknapp story the other day (many of you may know it) when one of his CD's got badly concussed just before half time; Harry took no notice so one of the trainers complained it'd be dangerous to send him out for the 2nd half "he doesn't even know who he is, Harry" " Well put a bandage round his 'ed & tell him he's f***ing Pele" ...
  20. As opposed to Buffoon?? 😄
  21. Apparently Everton are being punished because of lost income when they had to cut ties with a Russian investor after Ukraine was invaded. If so seems a little harsh to me.
