1. Webber is 100% right based on what he''s witnessed (he clearly explained his opinion was based on the games he''d attended). The present situation and general apathy felt by most supporters no doubt has something to do with it but in general we''re a pretty quite crowd. However, this is no different to the vast majority of grounds you''ll across the country at the moment. Football has to a large extent become gentrified. A vociferous crowd and intimidating atmosphere anywhere tends to be the exception, not the norm.
2. Incredibly sad news. I always remember thinking how Ugo was a particularly eloquent when interviewed and from memory do believe he was the first ever black player to captain an England side (whilst playing for the U21''s). Certainly a huge loss.
3. Rogue Baboon - I too love the third strip (in a it''s awful, yet brilliant kind of way). And I too have a wife that detests it, when I arrived home with I was greeted with... ''it''s horrible, I mean are you actually going to wear that? you''ll look ridiculous''
4. It''ll be because Errea provide a financially better deal for the club to provide the kit. And yes, aside from the top sides the Nike and Adidas kits are just the same templates reused over and over each season. At least we get some unique designs that aren''t seen elsewhere. Although I believe that cuts both ways... This season is probably the best set of kits we''ve had in a very long time, solid home and away shirts and a ''fun & quirky'' third strip whereas the season before (the home shirt with two halves and the hooped 3rd strip) our kits were nothing short of an abomination across the board (personal tastes an all!).
5. never. going. to. happen. He''s involved with a club that is competing to at the top end of the Bundesliga and set for the Champions League next season. The appeal of a job at Norwich in the Championship would be?
6. Let''s not forget that when Mick arrived at Ipswich they were total fodder, and looking set to go down. In that time he''s had to lose the high-earning overpriced dross (sound familiar?) Keane and Jewell brought in and then cobble together a side of loans, frees, real cheapies and youth players to compete in this league. He''s barely paid a fee for a player in the time he''s been there yet managed their best finish in a decade and has steered them well clear of any trouble. He got Sunderland and Wolves promoted out of the Championship when he did have some backing. Yes, some of the football has been poor, and when you''re shopping in the bargain bin you''re bound to pull out plenty of duds. I can see why the scummers aren''t going to be overjoyed with where the club finds itself but as far as I can see that lies at Evans'' door - since he''s basically withdrawn his funding for anything over the absolute necessary for them to operate. I''m not advocating going after him, it would be the most uninspiring of appointments, but I just think that when placed alongside some of the other names being mentioned his record betters many of them.
7. Yellow Wal, it''s hard to disagree with your longer-term outlook and I hope the board are working with the same mindset, but we need to be realistic on 2 fronts... 1. Who are we likely to attract that fulfils your criteria? 2. Our board are a rudderless shower at present, and I''d be surprised if they had ANY kind of plan in place. Therefore I''m thinking that a seasoned championship operator with a degree of relative success actually sounds more appealing than several other even more underwhelming rumoured possibilities.
8. I can''t say I want McCarthy or would be happy with him here but I think the Stuart Pearce rumour has set me off (that possible appointment has disaster written all over it). Like it or not McCarthy has an equal or better pedigree than some of the other names being mentioned! Grayson, Warnock, Pearce, Davies... For now I''d focus more on a managers'' record in the Championship than the Premier League.
9. This whole process is getting so depressing that I''d favour him over some of the other names currently being mentioned! He''s an experienced disciplinarian who would sort our wretched defence out if nothing else. His cup pedigree would be a perfect fit for us too!
10. Twitter rumour (retweeted by Talk Norwich City) that Pearce has been seen at Sprowston Manor. Some saying it''s because he''s at a golf event. Hopefully that''s the case and is why his odds have tumbled - only takes a couple of reasonable bets I guess. I''m trying to convince myself that''s the case, because no matter how much of a legend he wa son the pitch his appointment would be beyond my worst nightmare!
11. I agree in that we need someone with enough experience to complete a real overhaul of our squad and coaching (particularly defensively). If it''s a managerial appointment alongside an experienced director of football I''d like to see a younger dynamic coach on an upward curve come in and work alongside him. If there is no director of football type role then it''s essential we acquire a manger with strong experience and contacts within the game as there is a lot of business that needs to be done and a very shaky defence to rebuild. Although Alex Neil was no shrinking violet himself he did seem to build a squad that lacked any real characters and that was painfully obvious this season (especially away from home). The new manager not only needs to attract some strong characters but be respected (or feared) enough by them to make sure their presence is positive.
12. The one example that springs to mind is Watford. I''m not sure if they have a ''Director of Football'' specifically but they do have a structure whereby they have a sporting/technical director heavily involved in transfers and day to day running of the club etc so that the coaches can concentrate on coaching. This has obviously allowed them to remove managers without it causing so much upheaval across the club as it may have otherwise. This probably explains why all their recent appointments have been from the continent (coaches being familiar with this set up). Given the Pozzo''s ownership of Watford and other clubs across Europe it perhaps makes more sense for them to be run like this. It''s certainly not comparable to our situation though.
13. I''d say we are ''BECOMING just an average championship side'' we still have some talented players and another season of parachute payments to come. With some shrewd management and savvy work in the transfer market I genuinely believe there is time to halt the slide and turn things around as we do still hold advantages over the majority of sides in this division. However, I don''t believe that for one second the current board and management we have in place are capable of overseeing said turnaround.
14. Absolutely. I''d cite the departure of Bowkett alongside McNally as a major loss for the club, especially when you consider who they''ve been replaced with. Their gumption and ruthlessness will be sorely missed and the board clearly lacks the ''edge'' they provided as both Balls and Moxey are totally pathetic in comparison.
15. A little disappointed by that figure, I was hoping for under 10k.
16.
Fluke of a goal? Who made the run? Who''s run was spotted by Oliveira? Who was composed enough and had enough control to pick up the back heel at speed and take it on as far as possible to maximise the chance of scoring? Who put the ball in the net? What reason is there to think that he wouldn''t have scored if he hadn''t slipped? What does it say about a poster who can''t see anything other than "a fluke of a goal"? Was Murphy''s goal a fluke because a foot less swerve, or a few inches higher, would''ve seen it bounce away off the woodwork?
It was a fluke of a goal because he attempted to hit it with one foot and INADVERTENTLY hit it with the other whilst was falling over. There was no intention in the execution of what Naismith did. What makes me think he wouldn''t have scored otherwise is that he''s been dire for the vast majority of his time here. If a player has been in good form then they earn the benefit of the doubt in these situations, which on that basis Naismith obviously isn''t due. When Murphy scored he cut inside and struck a true strike with his left foot as he fully intended to. The end result of a stunning goal could be attributed to sound technique and execution.
17. We''ve now played 10 games... W: 7 D: 3 L: 1 Some may disregard the 2 EFL cup games but ultimately they''re still first team fixtures. I''ll assume we''re all happy to continue with AN at the helm?
18. I really do hope moving to the area permanently and having a settled family sees an improvement in Steven Naismith. It seems the kind of hugely important element of one''s family life that could only help. I''ve been very vocally critical of him due to the fact he''s been dreadful since he joined, and not only that, his mere presence in the side has unbalanced us horribly with Hoolahan being pushed to the left to accommodate him. I considered the most disappointing thing about our transfer deadline day was his move to Sunderland falling through. Let''s just hope that paired with one total fluke of a goal it''s the beginning of something better...
19. Intelligent, elegant, technically gifted and composed with a languid style of play. I''ve always found Berbatov a joy to watch. Whether he''d cope with (or fancy) life in the hustle and bustle of the championship at this stage of his career is another matter. I''d still be excited if he joined us.
20. I feel Lambert just ''clicked'' with the club at the time of his arrival, it being the right place at right time for him and McNally (and Holt!). Our 3 seasons under him remain some of my fondest. I think we''d struggle to replicate the success another time around. Bruce has a pretty solid record but has just walked out on a club because he felt he wasn''t being backed in the transfer market - So I certainly can''t see him wanting to come here!
21. It was exactly the same this time last year when clueless supporters had the nerve to suggest the August 2015 transfer window had been an abject failure. It''s not like we went through the season with a glaringly inadequate squad and got relegated!
